2019-20 CFP Foundation / Year in Review
BOARD OF DIRECTORS Mike Aresco.................................................. Commissioner American Partners and Friends: We are excited to share with you our annual Year in Review for 2019-20. This has been an extraordinary year, to say the least. During this past year, we were able to significantly expand our overall positive impact and national programming in our support of educators, which is our core mission. Much of this growth is a direct result of our ever expanding work with our wonderful and generous partners: conferences, universities, bowls, ESPN, host cities, corporations and so many other organizations committed to improving educational outcomes in our country. Since our inception just a few years ago, the College Football Playoff Foundation has emerged as the single largest sports organization dedicated to supporting K-12 teachers and their students. What’s even more exciting is that we are beginning to see the tangible impact we have made on tens of thousands of teachers, and their success in improving student achievement in so many of the communities we serve. We enter 2020 with great momentum as we continue to support teacher recruitment and retention in New Orleans, begin our middle school redesign in Miami, and further our planning for Indianapolis. At the same time, we will always be looking for ways to take all of our partnerships to a higher level in support of teachers. Together we know we are making a difference, and please know we will remain steadfast on our mission, no matter what challenges lay ahead. Thank you for your continued support, for which we are immensely grateful. Great Teachers Change Lives. Warmest Regards,

HIGHLIGHT
With the 2020 CFP National Championship in New Orleans, the Allstate Sugar Bowl took a leadership role in not only establishing the community impact strategy to support New Orleans teacher recruitment and retention, but has committed time and resources to continue supporting the established programs in upcoming years. ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL The CFP Foundation and Allstate Sugar Bowl’s investment in Teach for America within Greater New Orleans has enabled key teacher recruitment and retention activities to support a corps member in 46 schools across Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes. The impact of this support to teachers, measured in student achievement, has shown that students taught by corps members average 1.5 years of academic growth on ELA (English Language Acquisition) and math assessments over the course of the school year.
One of the things I’m most impressed by is the CFP Foundation, in addressing a real issue in the city in public education. The CFP Foundation shows that college football has a soul.” Jeff Hundley Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO

NEW ORLEANS COMMUNITY IMPACT The College Football Playoff Foundation’s commitment to New Orleans was demonstrated through community-wide engagement and a rich partnership with Teach New Orleans and NOLA Public Schools that was focused on recruitment, retention and providing educators with support and recognition they deserve. According to local leaders, approximately one in three teachers leave their jobs every year, and there is not a clear and focused pipeline from local teacher preparation programs to support the long-term stability of the workforce. Given these expressed needs, the CFP Foundation committed over $3 million in support of programs specific to teacher recruitment and retention.

The national championship weekend was one of the best moments as national teacher of the year. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush of having 80,000 people chanting for you. EXTRA YARD FOR TEACHERS SUMMIT
CELEBRATING TEACHERS Each year, the CFP Foundation hosts a special educator-only experience designed to inspire and empower teachers. This year, the free event was held at The Fillmore New Orleans and featured a surprise appearance by New Orleans native and Grammy award-winning artist Lauren Daigle, a headline performance by teacher-turned-comedian Eddie B, a talk by the National Teacher of the Year Rodney Robinson, and the final round of an epic Battle of the Bands competition, powered by Entergy.
Educators in attendance enjoyed an evening filled with giveaways, including a pair of tickets to the national championship game, and a library/media room makeover valued at $50,000. Ending the evening with an after party, teachers connected with peers from the Summit and the 2019 State Teachers of the Year from all 50 states. Partners joined in on the fun and giveaways, including School Specialty, DonorsChoose.org, Lakeshore Learning, Chick-fil-A, Dr Pepper, Dos Equis, and Southern Comfort.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS
BATTLE OF THE BANDS In the spirit of New Orleans, the College Football Playoff Foundation partnered with Entergy and a national music education nonprofit, Little Kids Rock, to host the first Extra Yard for Teachers Battle of the Bands to recognize the important role that music education plays in students’ overall learning experience. Student bands from local schools gathered together to perform and showcase their musical skills. On the first day, at New Orleans School of Music, band students were surprised to be coached by judges and leaders from Little Kids Rock on how to further collaborate together by creating an amazing original joint performance by the bands. The finalists performed on Saturday, January 11 at the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit at the Fillmore in front of judges including Big Sam (of Big Sam’s Funky Nation), Big Freedia and Zach Fineberg. Scores led to a tie and the winning grant was split between Landry-Walker High School and Edna Karr High School.
What the College Football Playoff is doing is exactly what we love to see. It does amazing things to enable students to learn through musicianship, what it means to be an ensemble and what it means to make things together.” Sonya Robinson Artist Corps New Orleans

SCORING HUGE WINS Eckrich and its Smithfield Foods parent company once again hosted the Eckrich Million Dollar Challenge during the Allstate Championship Tailgate Plaza, just hours before the national championship game. The football throw challenge gave the 2019 State Teachers of the Year a chance to win every time they made the target. In the months leading up to national championship weekend, the sausage and deli meat maker upped the ante, offering another $1 million to the CFP Foundation and its Extra Yard for Teachers platform if ESPN analyst, and former college quarterback, Kirk Herbstreit nailed the target, too. Herbstreit just missed the attempt, but in a great show of generosity, Eckrich donated $100,000 anyway to the CFP Foundation to support its Extra Yard for Teachers platform.

CHEVRON FUEL YOUR SCHOOL For the first time ever, the College Football Playoff Foundation and Chevron came together to support schools in the Greater New Orleans area during the month of October with the Chevron Fuel Your School initiative. The Foundation’s involvement was an extension of its commitment to providing resources for teachers in Louisiana with the CFP National Championship in New Orleans. A $1 donation was made by Chevron and then matched by the College Football Playoff Foundation to DonorsChoose.org for each fuel purchase of at least eight gallons at participating Chevron and Texaco stations during the month of October, totaling in $325,000 to fund classroom projects for public schools (grades K-12).

Dallas: On October 20, a devastating tornado hit the Dallas area, and many students were displaced for the remainder of the school year. The Cotton Bowl Foundation and the College Football Playoff Foundation quickly joined together in a $100,000 commitment to assist the teachers and students at those schools affected. Representatives from both organizations surprised 600 educators from Thomas Jefferson High School, Edward H. Cary Middle School and Walnut Hill Elementary School with a $500 Donors Choose gift card and two tickets and a parking pass to the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
