It has been my pleasure to serve as Chairman of the Board for the past two years. I welcome our 2023 Chairwoman, Mary Thompson from Clarksdale. She will continue to carry out our mission
of Connecting People Who Care With Causes That Matter
My six years of service to the Community Foundation has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, especially seeing the impact the grants to nonprofits have on the lives of those in need.
A grant is where the rubber meets the road for nonprofits The Foundation is committed to increasing our grantmaking capacity as we carry out our mission into the next decade.
I want to highlight two significant accomplishments this past year: 1) Total Grants topped $37 million since the first grant of $250 made in 2002 and 2) Assets topped $38 million as of December 31, 2021, towards our $50 million goal
I congratulate our Board leadership, donors, friends, and staff for your support I invite you to continue recommending the Community Foundation to your family, friends, and business associates.
The 2022 Philanthropy Report is full of examples of how donor advised funds, especially endowments, allow an individual to fulfill their charitable goals for causes that matter.
Contact our staff for additional copies, or an electronic version of the report, and pass it along with the invitation to join you as a supporter of the Community Foundation

Congratulations to the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi on the 20th
Anniversary of connecting people who care with causes that matter!
It was twenty years ago Robin Grindstaff Hurdle, with the Maddox Foundation, recommended forming a community foundation to support Northwest Mississippi Tom Pittman was hired as the first President, which set the Foundation on a course of success that has benefited our area of Mississippi.
Tom’s selection of Board members and staff has been one of the keys to the Foundation’s total assets reaching an all-time high of $38 million and grants totaling over $34 million.
Our volunteers and staff are focused on fulfilling our mission of connecting people who care with causes that matter over the next twenty years
I appreciate our staff who have a combined 81 years’ of service to the Foundation and for their focus on the strategic plan goal of reaching $50 million in total assets
The staff is honored to be part of the lives of our many donors who are supporting ofits and philanthropic opportunities that benefit our region, especially the en.
Thank you for celebrating two decades of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi
You have allowed us to accomplish great things in our region through your donations We will continue to fulfill philanthropic dreams and charitable causes into the next decade and hope you come along for the ride!

StrengtheningCharitable GivinginMississippi
ENDOW Mississippi is a state tax credit program to encourage individuals, businesses, and organizations to make lasting investments in their local communities through charitable giving. It was created in 2019 by the state Legislature to support gifts to permanent endowments only at qualified community foundations, like the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi!
The ENDOW Mississippi tax credit applies only to gifts made to permanent, endowed funds at qualified Mississippi community foundations These gifts will generate many times the initial value of the gift and will always benefit Mississippi.
Minimum gift is $1,000 ($250 tax credit) Maximum gift is $200,000 ($50,000 tax credit)
There are a LIMITED number of ENDOW Mississippi state tax credits to share for the entire state, so we encourage anyone who is interested to contact us promptly. Once available credits are claimed, we will reset the process on January 1, 2023.
Gifts can go to any endowment: an established endowment or a newly created one
Maximum gift to the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi is $200,000 through September 30, 2023. The allocation is limited per year on a first come-first service basis. Additional allocations may be available after October 1, 2023 but are not guaranteed
An endowed fund is defined as one that benefits Mississippi charitable causes, is held at a qualified community foundation, and has an annual granting policy less than or equal to 5%.
For more information, contact Stacye Trout at 662.449.5002, strout@cfnm.org or visit www.CFNM.org

Board
Member / Treasurer
Bob Bowen, who served as a board member and past chair of the Finance Committee, passed away on April 5th. Bob was reappointed as Chair of the Finance Committee at the February 2022 meeting, and he was looking forward to serving again in that capacity through February 2023. Below his photo are QR codes that go to his obituary and an album of photos on our Flickr page
Tom Pittman credits Bob’s leadership of the Finance Committee with professionalizing the Foundation’s investments that resulted in a remarkable growth in the endowment.
Bob and Sheryl Bowen were faithful volunteers and donors to the Community Foundation, as well as to numerous nonprofits. Bob’s legacy and philanthropic impact at the Community Foundation is immeasurable, especially among the thousands of children who benefit thanks to Bob’s leadership on the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors.
Wanda not only volunteered, but she also created endowments at the Community Foundation and supported numerous causes.
Her endowments and gifts supported such causes as the Mississippi Music Foundation; the Edward Pidgeon Skate Park Endowment; Desoto Arts Council; and the Veterans’ Parade.
Wanda would volunteer at the Foundation office even on days when she received her cancer treatments. She was a remarkable person who we’re all blessed to have had her in our lives.
