BUMAX Screws Used for Ultrasonic Welding Machines Loose Fastener Prompts 124k Honda Vehicle Recall
July 17, 2023 - Swedish premium fastener manufacturer BUMAX has been selected to provide fasteners to be used in machines for ultrasonic metal welding. The client is Schunk Sonosystems, a global leading specialist in the field of ultrasonic metal welding.
German specialist machine maker Schunk Sonosystems has decided to use BUMAX DX 129 screws for all its ultrasonic welding flexure sonotrode products to further improve quality and reliability. The machines are mainly used in the automobile industry.
"Standard steel bolts simply cannot cope with the extreme pulling and bending forces of ultrasonic vibration, so we had to find a bolt that does," said Stefan Mueller, Head of R&D at Schunk Sonosystems. "Of all the screws we tested, only BUMAX met all our needs. Not only are BUMAX consistent in how they perform and do not break, they last the lifetime of the sonotrode without problem, are not creating abrasion dust on the screw head and do not require rust protection."
Honda has announced a recall of more than 124,000 vehicles, including Civics, Passports and Pilots, as the affected vehicles can suffer from loss of brake function, resulting in a potential crash.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published the recall June 29. It applies to certain 20202021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. A total of 124,077 cars are potentially affected.
According to the recall, the issue lies in a loose fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder. This could cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly, possibly causing loss of brake function and risk of a crash.
If the brake master cylinder separates from the booster assembly, it is unlikely drivers will have any advance warning, the recall says.

Market Trend Analysis of Chinese Fastener Enterprises under the New Energy Wave
New energy vehicle fasteners: fierce competition and huge potential
If the research and production of new energy vehicles are compared to the brain and nervous system, then thousands of fasteners are like their bones and joints. The development of the new energy industry has accelerated the research and development of intelligent, electrified, and lightweight automotive components, which has had a profound impact on the innovation of product demand, product structure, and product performance of automotive fastener enterprises. The momentum of new energy vehicles is flourishing, and as necessary fasteners, they have also taken the ride of development. So is it a good time for the new energy automotive fastener industry to follow the trend?
In recent years, with the continuous improvement of environmental awareness and the increasingly prominent issue of energy shortage, the new energy industry has become a hot topic of concern for the international community and governments of various countries. The new energy industry takes new energy technology as its core, with the production and utilization of new energy as its main goal. It has the characteristics of environmental protection, sustainability, green and efficiency, and is a major trend in the future energy field. From new energy vehicles on the application side to photovoltaic and wind power on the resource side, the new energy industry has become the most eye-catching "star" in the entire market. How can fastener enterprises seize the opportunity and take off in the face of the wave of new energy?
? 048 CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023 INSIGHTS
The prospect of China's new energy vehicle fastener market
When it comes to new energy, the first to be thought of is undoubtedly the most concerned new energy vehicles. According to the "Automobile Industry Production and Sales in 2022" released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in 2022, China's new energy vehicles maintained explosive growth, with annual production and sales of 7.058 million and 6.887 million, respectively, up 96.9% and 93.4% year-on-year, ranking first in the world for eight consecutive years. In addition, the market share of new energy vehicles reached 25.6%, an increase of 12.1% compared with 2021.
In the future, the market share of new energy vehicles will further increase. The "Action Plan for Carbon Peak before 2030" issued by the State Council of China clearly stated that "by 2030, the proportion of new and clean energy powered transportation vehicles will reach about 40%."
There are many types and quantities of fasteners required for a car, including bolts, studs, screws, washers, rings, pins, rivets, welding studs and SEMS and connectors. According to calculations, each car requires 2000 to 3000 fasteners. The demand for automotive fasteners accounts for about 23% of the total sales of the entire fastener industry, which is the highest proportion. With the gradual rise in the production and sales of new energy vehicles, its demand for automotive fasteners continues to expand.
Compared to traditional cars, the number of components in pure electric vehicles has been reduced by half, while highstrength fasteners account for 80% of the total number of fasteners used in the vehicle. If fastener enterprises hope to meet the standards for the use of new energy vehicles, they must strengthen technological innovation and promote the research and development of lightweight and highperformance fasteners. Only fastener enterprises that meet this demand can seize this opportunity.
Traditional fastener enterprises actively explore new markets
Currently, the Chinese automotive fastener industry is facing a situation of overcapacity in low-end products,
insufficient supply of high-end products, the small scale of enterprises and low degree of automation. The market competition is becoming increasingly fierce. With the formation of global production and procurement layout in the automotive industry, leading international fastener enterprises including Wurth, ITW, NORMA Group, etc. have set up factories in China to seize market share.
New energy vehicles have a huge demand for highstrength automotive fasteners. However, due to the high technical barriers, especially the manufacturing of automotive fasteners above the 10.9 level, the quality of raw materials, cold heading, heat treatment and surface treatment technology requirements are higher, the current market is mainly occupied by European, American, and Japanese enterprises. Among them, the high-strength fasteners applied to the core parts of the engine and chassis are still mainly imported. It is worth mentioning that China's traditional auto parts enterprises are also actively transforming and upgrading. Many fastener enterprises such as Changhua Holding Group and Essence Fastening System are actively expanding into the field of new energy vehicle fasteners.
Currently, the third round of Juglar cycle in the automotive industry has begun. During this cycle, new energy vehicles will enter the popularization period, and demand will drive the start of the third round of industry production capacity cycle. As a key link in the new energy vehicle industry chain, the fastener market is expected to further develop in 2023.
Wind power fasteners: leading players in segmented fields, but relatively scattered
Wind power fasteners are the mechanical components used for fastening connections between wind turbine blades and wind power machines, and are important basic mechanical components in the wind power industry. In response to the energy crisis and to protect the ecological environment, many countries around the world have begun to vigorously promote

energy structure adjustment. As a clean and renewable new energy source, wind power is continuously increasing its installed capacity and gradually developing into an important component of the new energy generation market.
Healthy development of China's wind power fastener market
In recent years, the rapid and healthy growth of the wind power industry has effectively ensured the market demand for high-strength fasteners, providing good opportunities for the development of wind power high-strength fastener manufacturing enterprises. According to “the National Climate Change Program (2014-2020)”, the installed capacity has reached 200 million kilowatt hours by 2020.
By 2050, the total installed capacity of wind power will increase by 9 times on this basis, and its electricity consumption will account for 80% of China's total energy consumption, becoming the veritable main energy. Therefore, the fastener market, which is growing synchronously with wind power equipment, is expected to maintain a high growth rate of around 30% per year. If the upgrading and renovation of existing equipment are included, the demand for wind power fasteners may be greater.
Chinese enterprises are not lagging behind in competition
In the past decade, a few outstanding fastener manufacturing enterprises in China have continuously overcome difficulties and achieved technological breakthroughs in the product strength, thread processing accuracy, surface super anti-corrosion, anti-loosening and other aspects in response to the harsh application environment of wind power equipment. It has achieved effective cost control while strictly ensuring product quality stability, greatly enhancing the international competitiveness of high-strength fasteners for Chinese wind power equipment. International wind power giants such as General Electric (GE), Vestas, and Siemens Gemesa have started selecting excellent Chinese enterprises as suppliers.
At present, the main products in the wind power fastener market include blade bolts, latches, wind turbine bolts, and so on. The world's leading manufacturers mainly include Finework, ZC Bolt, Shanghai Shenguang, Daton Wind Power, Zhoushan Zhengyuan, etc.
After continuous development, China's wind power fastener market has a high localization rate, even the market of high-strength fasteners is also occupied by Chinese enterprises. Many enterprises have achieved the international leading level. Finework is one of the major manufacturers of wind power fasteners in the world, the market share reached 4.71%, and the wind turbine blade embedded screw sleeve produced by it occupies more than 70% of the global market share.
Despite the high barriers to enter the wind power fastener industry and the formation of leading enterprises in some segmented fields, the number of wind power fastener related enterprises in China is still numerous, and many of them are generally small in scale, lack financial strength and have limited technological processes. The overall structure of the industry is relatively scattered. In the context of policy tightening and increasing profit pressure, some wind power fastener enterprises with weak risk resistance capability will be gradually eliminated, and industry concentration is expected to continue to increase.
Photovoltaic fasteners: low concentration and production processes to be upgraded
The reason why the photovoltaic industry has attracted global attention is that the energy source of photovoltaic power generation is solar energy, which is a clean, safe, and renewable energy source. The process of photovoltaic power
050 CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023
generation will not pollute the environment nor damage the ecology. From 2013 to 2021, China has ranked first in the world's annual new photovoltaic installed capacity for nine consecutive years, and exceeded the second place several times. Since 2015, China has also ranked first in the world's total photovoltaic installed capacity for seven consecutive years.
The rapid development of the photovoltaic industry has also brought more opportunities to the fastener industry. The photovoltaic industry, as a leader in the new energy industry, is currently being extensively implemented in China's national key projects. For example, photovoltaic panels use a large number of fasteners. The photovoltaic industry particularly needs fastener products with characteristics such as corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, impact resistance, and strong weather fastness.
Stainless steel fasteners, as a representative of corrosionresistant fasteners, are widely used in the photovoltaic industry. Meanwhile, considering the later maintenance and repair, various types of fasteners with anti-loosening and locking functions are also the optimal choice. The most commonly used and widely applicable fasteners include stainless steel hex nuts, serrated washers, double fold washers, T-groove bolts, torx screws, and so on.
At present, the major stainless steel fastener manufacturers in the world include TONG, Aozhan, and Tengda Technology in mainland China, Tong Hwei and LuChu SinYee in Taiwan, China, Tong Herr Resources Berhad in Southeast Asia, and Viraj in India. In addition, a large-scale stainless steel fastener industry cluster has also formed in Dainan, Jiangsu, China.
On the whole, the current concentration of China's stainless steel fastener industry is low, and the overall scale of the enterprise is small. The photovoltaic industry needs a large number of high-quality stainless steel fastener products.
If Chinese fastener enterprises want to seize the market and stand out in the industry competition, it is necessary to continuously enhance research and development capabilities and improve the technological level.
Seizing the momentum of new energy means seizing the future of the fastener industry
Looking at the world, in the case of countries competing to develop new energy technologies, those who can gain advantages in the strategic competition of new energy can act as the leader of the world's scientific and technological innovation in the next industrial revolution, the locomotive of economic development and the maker of new international standards.
When the development of the new energy industry is flourishing, fasteners as supporting products also produce more possibilities. Many fastener enterprises are keeping up with the trend and some fastener enterprises have already laid out their development blueprint on the path of the new energy industry.
In 2022, in the context of China's economic downturn, there are still many enterprises announced to enter or expand the new energy-related fastener industry. A number of powerful enterprises announced investment in the new energy automotive fastener market, which also indicates that the potential market of the new energy-related fastener industry will be further explored.
However, China's new energy fastener market is currently in a state of supply imbalance. The supply of high-end products is insufficient, and there is still great room for development. Seizing this opportunity is the goal and a key development direction for many fastener enterprises.
If fastener enterprises want to enter the field of new energy and deepen it, they need to focus on technology and products, maintain the stability and consistency of quality, and persist in technological innovation and layout in advance to meet future needs.

INSIGHTS
In the first half of 2023, the Chinese new energy vehicle market showed a steady rebound trend. Due to the weakening of subsidies and the impact of the epidemic, sales of new energy vehicles experienced a rare decline in the first quarter, with a year-on-year decrease of 6.3% and a month-on-month decrease of 50%. With the influence of factors such as policy support, consumer stimulus, and the launch of new models, the sales of new energy vehicles gradually rebounded in the second quarter. The total sales in the second quarter reached 2.844 million vehicles, an increase of 75.8% year-on-year and more than double the month-on-month growth.
In terms of new forces, Li Auto continued to lead the way, with sales of more than 30,000 vehicles for two consecutive months and a cumulative delivery of more than 400,000 vehicles. NIO also achieved a breakthrough, with monthly sales exceeding 20,000 vehicles for the first time, of which the new model ES6 accounted for nearly half. NIO's price-cutting strategy and new model launches are paying off, and its share price has risen sharply. The XPENG also returned to the level of more than 10,000 vehicles, also benefiting from low prices and the appeal of the new model.
Traditional brands are also striving to stay ahead, occupying a growing share of the new energy vehicle market. SAIC GM and SAIC Volkswagen both have two models with
sales volume of more than 10,000 vehicles, among which Bingo and Yep under SGMW have eye-catching performance and won market recognition with low price and high cost performance. DEEPAL and ZEEKR are also showing strong growth and are the two brands that are closer to Tesla.
In contrast, some new forces such as Nezha and LEAPMOTOR have performed relatively poorly. LEAPMOTOR has rebounded to some extent, but Nezha continues to decline. SERES is even more disappointing, even with the launch of two new models, it still failed to turn the tide. AITO also needs to accelerate its pace and cannot rely solely on the Chinese patriotism.
Overall, the Chinese new energy vehicle market has shown a trend of diversification and differentiation, and competition among various brands will become more intense. Price reductions, new vehicle models, technological innovation, and service experience will all become important factors that affect consumers' choices.
New energy vehicle market trend in the second half of the year
China's new energy vehicle market is expected to continue to maintain good development in the second half of the year. On the one hand, it benefits from the continuation and optimization of policies, such as the purchase tax exemption policy extended to 2027, the frequent implementation of consumption promotion policies, and the active development of new energy activities to the countryside. On the other hand, thanks to the release of market demand and innovation, such as consumers' awareness and acceptance of new energy vehicles continue to increase, and enterprises launch more cost-effective and high-tech new products.
Entering the peak demand season in the second half of the year, the new energy vehicle economy is expected to pick up. In the Chinese market, the growth rate of new energy vehicle demand slowed from January to April in 2023. Recently, the national stimulus policy has been working to support the expansion of new energy vehicle consumption. When the automotive market enters the peak season in the second half of the year, demand is expected to pick up and annual sales are expected to reach 9 million vehicles. In the European market, with the easing of supply chain and chip restrictions in 2023, the new energy vehicle market has gradually recovered, and annual sales are expected to reach 3 million vehicles. In the US market, the detailed regulations of the IRA bill issued in April 2023 have promoted the acceleration of electrification, and the annual sales are expected to reach 2 million vehicles. Global annual sales are expected to exceed 14 million vehicles, a yearon-year growth rate of 36%, and the penetration rate may increase to 18%.
The competition in the industry is becoming increasingly fierce. Traditional automobile enterprises are accelerating their

transformation to new energy. With the exit of the national subsidy in 2023, the new energy vehicle industry has entered a new stage of market-oriented competition. Looking ahead to the second half of the year, the industry will continue to face increasingly fierce competition. The key for automotive enterprises to compete for market share lies in product competitiveness and cost advantages. The Matthew Effect is evident in the power battery industry. Against the backdrop of global overcapacity, the fierce competition for market share among enterprises will continue to ferment.
On the one hand, Chinese battery manufacturers are actively entering overseas markets. On the other hand, the rise of the US electric vehicle market may have a sustained impact on the global landscape.
A new round of inventory replenishment cycle in the industrial chain may begin. The industrial chain has gone through several months of deep destocking, and the current inventory of power battery enterprises has basically reached a reasonable level. This round of destocking cycle is approaching its end. The recovery of the new energy vehicle market in the second half of the year is expected, and the pace of production scheduling in the power battery industry will accelerate accordingly. As the price of lithium carbonate returns to a reasonable range, the profit pattern of the industrial chain is expected to be restructured. From the perspective of the whole year, the performance low point of most links in the industrial chain has passed.
China is accelerating the construction of charging stations to unleash the consumption potential of new energy vehicles. Improving the construction of charging infrastructure is the basic guarantee for supporting the expansion of new energy vehicles. Since the beginning of this year, the construction of charging stations has also received strong support from national policies. The charging station market in Europe and America is in the early stages of explosion, and Chinese charging station enterprises are accelerating their export.
According to the predictions of the China Passenger Car Association and IEA, the sales of new energy vehicles in China are expected to reach around 8.5 million vehicles in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 26.3%. The global sales of new energy vehicles are expected to reach around 14 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 29.3%.

Trends and Prospects of China's Steel Market in 2023
In the first half of 2023, the steel market experienced ups and downs due to various factors such as the global economy, policies, supply and demand. Overall, steel prices have shifted from rising to falling, with the average absolute price index of plain steel decreasing by about 16.5% year-on-year, and the profitability of the steel industry has also significantly declined. Looking ahead to the second half of the year, China's economy shows a weak recovery. Steel consumption has been weak for a long time. Steel prices may have a fluctuating weakening trend, and the price center may continue to shift downwards.
Analysis of the Steel Market in the First Half of the Year
Both steel production and export volume increased year-on-year in the first half of the year
According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China, in the first half of the year, the country's crude steel production reached 536 million tons, a year-onyear increase of 1.3%; The production of raw iron reached 452 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%; The steel production reached 677 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%. In the first half of the year, China's apparent consumption of crude steel decreased by 1.9% year-on-year, while the proportion of construction steel decreased. Steel used in ships, automobiles, household appliances, wind power, photovoltaics, and other industries continued to grow,

effectively supporting the growth of the variety and quantity of steel used in the manufacturing industry.
The export of steel increased significantly. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in the first half of the year, China exported 43.58 million tons of steel, a year-on-year increase of 31.3%; Imported steel reached 3.74 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 35.2%. But the export price of steel has decreased year-on-year. In the first half of the year, the average export price of Chinese steel was $1075 per ton, a year-on-year decrease of 24.7%; The average import price is $1718 per ton, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%.
The expected economic recovery in the first quarter combined with a rebound in steel demand drove up steel prices
In the first quarter, the level of China's economic prosperity rebounded strongly, and the confidence of market entities continued to recover, significantly boosting the steel market. China's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 54.5% yearon-year, with a significant recovery in the tertiary industry and a contribution rate of 66.1% to GDP growth, providing strong support for economic growth. The total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 8.2% year-on-year whose growth rate is 2.4% faster than the first quarter, gradually restoring its support for the economy. Fixed assets investment increased by 3.8% year-on-year. Import and export have also maintained growth, with China's total import and export value of goods reaching 20.1 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.1%.
Since Chinese New Year, the seasonal demand for steel has rebounded rapidly. The weekly average of the apparent volume of steel consumption of the five major varieties in the first quarter was 8.56 million tons, an increase of 63000 tons compared to the same period last year. Among them, the demand for construction steel is supported by infrastructure construction and real estate completion, while the demand for manufacturing steel is driven by industries such as automobiles, home appliances, and machinery. As demand increases, stocks are being reduced and the improvement in supply and demand structure drives steel prices to run higher.
The economic recovery in the second quarter was lower than market expectations. With a declined demand, steel prices changed from rising to falling
The economic recovery in the second quarter was less than expected, mainly manifested in the following aspects. Firstly, social financing and loans grew beyond expectations. In the context of high government debt and low income, the situation of tight funding continued; The second reason is that the recovery of real estate sales was below expectation. The recovery of market confidence was relatively slow; Thirdly, the scale of infrastructure investment decreased; Fourthly, overseas banking risk events severely impacted global capital markets and commodity markets.
In the second quarter, the demand of steel was lower than expected, resulting in a significant drop in prices. The steel market entered the demand verification period in the second quarter, and the demand recovery was less than expected. Starting from late April, the demand for the five major varieties of steel has been declining year-on-year for seven consecutive weeks. Due to the impact of demand not meeting expectations, steel mills experienced a production reduction in April and May, which weakened the demand for raw materials and led to a sharp drop in raw material prices. Costs moved down, steel demand was weak, and the industrial chain formed negative feedback, leading to a decline in steel prices.
Steel prices rebounded at the end of the second quarter, but the duration was short
In June, steel prices experienced a certain degree of rebound due to the following factors:
First of all, the market had strong expectations on policy stimulus in off-seasons, especially for monetary policies such as interest rate cuts and reserve requirement reductions; Secondly, the stock continued to be consumed, with a relatively good fundamental structure; Moreover, the depreciation of the RMB laid the foundation for exports, and the same quarter of steel exports were significantly better; Last but not least, due

to the high temperature in the north and the drought in the south, hydraulic power generation was suppressed, and the demand for thermal power generation increased, leading to the suspension of the decline in coal coke prices.
However, these factors cannot change the fundamental situation of the steel market and can only serve as a temporary boost. From a macro perspective, the recovery momentum of the Chinese economy has slowed down, and the expectation of overseas economic recession has increased. Overall, after the rebound in steel prices, it only maintained a fluctuating situation in high prices.
Prospects for the Steel Market in the Second
Half of the Year
China's economy shows weak recovery, and large-scale stimulus policies are difficult to implement
In the second half of the year, the momentum of China's economic recovery is weakening. On the one hand, although consumption growth has recovered significantly and played a prominent role in driving GDP, the recovery of consumption in the first half of the year is yet a predominate result of postepidemic recovery. The consumption of bulky goods such as post cycle of real estate, communication equipment, and automobiles remain weak. On the other hand, the growth rate of fixed asset investment is declining. Among them, real estate is the main drag, with new construction area maintaining a sharp decline, while the intensity of infrastructure investment has also decreased.
It is expected that China will still maintain a stable macroeconomic policy in the second half of the year, and largescale stimulus policies will be difficult to implement. The 2023 “Government Work Report” proposed a stable target for economic development in 2023 (The target GDP growth rate is around 5%). In terms of macro policies, compared to 2022, the expansion of the monetary and fiscal policy combination in 2023 has significantly weakened (with fiscal policies being more
effective and monetary policies being precise and powerful), indicating that current government policies are more inclined towards the efficiency of economic growth rather than using strong stimulus measures to stimulate short-term demand.
The expected policy focus for the second half of the year is to maintain a loose monetary environment, repair the job market and restore residents' confidence, adopt city-specific policies in real estate, and introduce a new batch of policybased financial instruments.
Steel consumption has been sluggish for a long time, and the contradiction between supply and demand continues to accumulate
It is expected that the completion of the real estate project in the second half of the year will still be the focus of efforts, and the overall demand for steel will still be weak. In the first half of the year, the newly constructed area of houses was 498.8 million square meters, a year-on-year decrease of 24.3%. It is expected that the real estate market will still face significant pressure in the second half of the year, especially with increasing difficulty in destocking in third and fourth tier cities. Real estate steel accounts for about 40% of total steel consumption, and the decline in real estate demand will directly affect steel consumption.
Infrastructure investment is another important support for steel consumption, accounting for about 30% of total steel consumption. In the first half of the year, infrastructure investment increased by 7.2% year-on-year. It is expected that infrastructure investment will continue to maintain stable growth in the second half of the year, but it is difficult to see a significant rebound. On the one hand, the growth rate of government income has slowed down, and the space for fiscal expenditure is limited; On the other hand, the approval and construction progress of infrastructure projects are constrained by factors such as environmental protection and land, resulting in low efficiency of infrastructure investment.
Manufacturing steel accounts for about 20% of the total steel consumption, mainly including industries such
060 CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023

as automobiles, home appliances, and machinery. Due to the support of export driven and domestic demand recovery, the demand for steel in the manufacturing industry performed well in the first half of the year. It is expected to maintain a certain degree of growth in the second half of the year, but the growth rate may slow down.
Steel prices may have a fluctuating weakening trend, and the price center may continue to shift downwards
It is expected that steel prices will show a trend of fluctuating and weakening in the second half of the year. Firstly, the pressure on supply side is high. Although some regions implemented production restriction measures in the first half of the year, it did not have a significant impact on the national crude steel production.
In the second half of the year, with the strengthening of environmental inspections and winter production restrictions, some areas may reduce production, but the overall scale will not be too large. At the same time, against the backdrop of low profits and fierce market competition, there is vicious competition and low price sales among steel mills. These factors will make it difficult for the supply side to effectively reduce production.
Secondly, the demand side is weak. In the second half of the year, the main support for steel consumption is real estate and infrastructure investment, which are difficult to show significant improvement. The real estate market still faces high stock pressure, especially in third and fourth tier cities. Infrastructure investment is constrained by fiscal revenue and project approval, resulting in a slowdown in growth rate. Due to the impact of the global economic downturn and trade frictions, it may be difficult for the demand for steel in the manufacturing industry to maintain the growth momentum in the first half of the year. Although steel exports have increased, they also face risks of international market competition and anti-dumping. Overall, the demand side lacks effective traction.
In addition, from a cost perspective, there is still room for a decrease in raw material prices, especially iron ore and coke. In the first half of the year, iron ore prices were hit by the supply side and experienced a significant increase. But in the second half of the year, with the recovery of major production areas such as Brazil and Australia, the supply side pressure will gradually ease. In addition, the weakening of the demand side will also lead to a decline in the price of iron ore in China. The price of coke is also affected by both supply and demand. With the release of coking capacity and the impact of steel mills reducing production, the price of coke will continue to show a downward trend. The decrease in raw material prices will further compress the cost support for steel prices.
Considering the domestic and international situation in China, consumer demand remained weak in terms of domestic demand, especially for large consumer goods. In terms of exports, the expectation of overseas economic recession increased, and the uncertainty of the export market enhanced. It is expected that the demand for the steel industry will continue to be weak in the second half of the year, and the contradiction between supply and demand will continue to accumulate. Steel mills will mainly reduce production, and there is still room for cost reduction, which will weaken their support for steel prices.
It can be foreseen that steel prices may continue to operate at a low level, and steel mills will have meager profits. In the second half of the year, Chinese steel enterprises will still face enormous pressure and challenges in their operations.

Analysis and Prospect of Industrial Wire Rod in 2023 China
Half of 2023 has passed. Looking back at the overall market trend of industrial wire rods in the first half of 2023, it showed a trend of high in the front and low in the back. In the first half of the year, the industrial wire rod market did not bring any surprises until June, when the market showed a positive trend. So is the industrial wire rod market situation worth looking forward to in 2023?
Review of the Fundamentals of the Industrial Wire Rod Market in the First Half of 2023
①Change in price center of gravity
In the past three years, the price center of industrial wire rods has gradually decreased, and the starting point of prices of this year is lower than the previous two years.
As is shown in Figure 1, at the beginning of the year, there was a slight increase in the price of industrial wire rod market.
However, since March, market expectations have fallen and market prices have shown a downward trend. The external environment remains complex and severe, which has brought serious challenges to the development of the industrial wire rod market. The industrial wire rod prices have continued to weaken in the past three months, and the decline has also continued to expand.
Looking at its causes, the fluctuations and decline in the industrial wire rod market in the first half of the year are inseparable from the decrease in raw material costs and the intensification of supply-demand conflicts. Industrial wire raw materials mainly include iron ore, coke, silicon manganese alloy, etc. Among the production costs of industrial wire raw materials, iron ore and coke account for 70% -80%. In the first half of 2023, most of the above products showed a downward trend, which weakened the production cost support for industrial wire rods, thus causing a certain degree of price decline in the industrial wire rod market. It wasn't until early June that prices bottomed out and rebounded.
② Supply and demand
From a demand perspective, the trading volume of industrial wire rods significantly decreased in the first half of the year, mainly due to the adverse impact of last year's epidemic, which has a clear negative effect on the Chinese economy. However, from the current perspective, the Chinese
economy is gradually recovering. On one hand, the policy support of Chinese government has had a positive impact on economic recovery. For instance, the continuous implementation of promotional policies in various regions has played a certain promoting role in the mild recovery of the automotive market. Among them, the rapid development of new energy vehicles has attracted the most attention from the market. It is expected that the demand for industrial wire rod market will slowly recover in the second half of the year, and the process of economic

INSIGHTS
recovery will continue to accelerate. On the other hand, China's industrial chain has initially recovered, and consumer and business confidence is gradually recovering. The demand for industrial wire rod market is also in a slow recovery stage.
From a supply perspective, with the new stage of liberalizing epidemic, prevention policy, economic development has once again become the top priority for the country. With the gradual boost of market confidence and the gradual recovery of domestic demand, steel mills returned to the state of development before the epidemic, quickly recovered and carried out orderly production, and output remained at a high level. However, after the repeated game between reality and expectation, the market gradually returned to reality and basically showed a state of oversupply.
③ Inventory status
From an inventory perspective, the production of industrial wire steel mills is relatively high, and the pressure on finished product inventory of manufacturers is prominent. The main manifestation is the slow digestion speed of market and steel factory inventory, especially the performance of cold heading steel products, which is difficult to alleviate the supply-demand contradiction in the short term.
Overall, the current inventory is showing a gradual downward trend, and the market is in the stage of actively removing inventory. This is mainly due to the expected recovery of downstream orders and the relatively shrinking export orders in the manufacturing industry. For the market, since the beginning of this year, traders have lacked confidence in the subsequent market development and their willingness to hoard has significantly decreased. What’s more, the current supply of industrial wire rods is still high, and the situation of oversupply is difficult to improve in the short term. In the case of limited demand increment, market competition may present a more intense state. In order to ensure capital flow and reduce inventory pressure, low-cost selling may become one of the response plans for steel traders.
④ Import and export
Export is an important component of a country's economic development and so does for the overall demand for industrial wire rods. Overall, the current export situation is relatively optimistic and in the stage of gradual recovery, mainly due to the following reasons:
Firstly, since mid March 2023, due to multiple factors such as weaker than expected market demand, intensified supply-demand conflicts, loose cost support, and the continuous fermentation of European and American bank debt crises, domestic industrial wire rod prices have entered a two and a half month long volatile decline path. Therefore, the export quotation has decreased with the downward trend of domestic prices. Also, the exchange rate of the RMB against the US dollar has decreased. The price difference between domestic and foreign markets has significantly expanded, and the export efficiency of enterprises is better than that of domestic sales. Therefore, the export motivation is strong.
Secondly, in recent years, China's steel industry has steadily promoted a high-quality development strategy, and industrial wire products have been continuously upgraded, increasing their advantages in the international market.
At the same time, in 2023, the general index of infrastructure construction of the "the Belt and Road" countries will further rise. Infrastructure in various countries is recovering and the development trend is improving, and infrastructure is one of the important end consumer industries for industrial wire rods, with an increasing demand for industrial wire rods.
We can not ignore the indirect export volume of industrial wire rod is also a very important component of the total export volume, which changes with the increase or decrease of terminal product exports. As an important end consumer field for industrial wire, automobiles have performed excellently in the export market. Among them, new energy vehicles have become the core growth point. The main reason is that since 2023, relevant national policies supporting the development of automobiles have emerged frequently, especially the introduction and implementation of a series of policies for new energy vehicles, which have brought obvious opportunities for export development. The substantial growth of automobile exports has had a profound impact on the indirect exports of industrial wires.
In terms of imports, the import volume of industrial wire rods decreased in the first half of 2023, mainly due to a significant decrease in domestic steel prices and limited market demand, resulting in a significant decrease in import volume. However, due to the increase in steel mill production, the impact of a decrease in import volume on overall supply is limited.
Prospects for the Industrial Wire Rod Market in the Second Half of 2023
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, the three main factors affecting industrial wire rod prices will be supply, demand, and related policies. From a demand perspective, as the domestic economy gradually recovers, the end market begins to recover, which will be conducive to boosting the market's consumption enthusiasm. From a supply perspective, as domestic demand gradually recovers, suppliers will make corresponding incremental adjustments to production based on market demand. From a policy perspective, with the promulgation of relevant domestic policies, the demand for industrial wire rod market will be stimulated, thereby stimulating market vitality.
① Demand
The downstream industries involved in industrial wire rod are rich and extensive, including real estate, infrastructure and other industries. With the gradual progress of domestic economic recovery, the demand for industrial wire rods in the terminal industry will gradually recover to expectations in the second half of the year.
·Real estate industry
The investment data in the real estate industry which accounts for the largest proportion of industrial wire rod terminal consumption continues to decline. According to the data of the first half of 2023 released by the National Bureau of Statistics, the national real estate development investment is 5855 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 7.9%; Among them, residential investment reached 4443.9 billion yuan, a decrease of 7.3%.
In the first half of the year, the construction area of real estate development enterprises' houses was 791548 million square meters, a year-on-year decrease of 6.6%. Among them, the residential construction area was 5570.83 million square meters, a decrease of 6.9%. The newly constructed area of houses is 498.8 million square meters, a decrease of 24.3%. Among them, the newly constructed residential area was 363.4 million square meters, a decrease of 24.9%. The data reflects that real estate is facing a downturn and dual pressure from funds, which may have a certain adverse impact on the growth of demand in the industrial wire rod market.
However, there are also very positive and optimistic industries on the demand side in the second half of the year, which can be demonstrated and analyzed from new energy vehicles, railways, and new power systems.
·New energy vehicle industry
Recently, the country has continuously implemented stimulus policies to support the expansion of new energy vehicle consumption. The preferential policy for new energy vehicle purchase tax has continued, and current demand has steadily rebounded. In the second half of the year, the

automobile market is expected to enter a peak season, with demand rebounding, and there is a possibility of continued growth in sales of new energy vehicles.
In June 2023, the production and sales of automobiles completed 2.561 million and 2.622 million units respectively, with a increase of 9.8% and 10.1%, and a year-on-year increase of 2.5% and 4.8%, respectively. From January to June 2023, the production and sales of automobiles reached 13.248 million and 13.239 million respectively, with year-on-year growth of 9.3% and 9.8%. The data indicates that there is a high possibility of moderate growth in automobile production and sales in the second half of 2023. Compared to the first half of the year, the overall market demand has recovered. Currently, the market's expectations for domestic policy hikes are gradually increasing, and China's economy is expected to continue to improve, which will play a role in boosting consumer demand for industrial wire rods.
·Railway industry
In addition, railways are a strategic, leading, and critical infrastructure of the country. Since the beginning of this year, China Railway Group has fully utilized the driving effect of railway construction investment on the entire society. In the first quarter, the fixed assets investment of national railways was 113.55 billion yuan, up 6.6% year on year. In the second quarter, investment efforts further increased. Data shows that from January to June, the national railway completed a total of 304.9 billion yuan of fixed assets investment, of which 261.3 billion yuan was completed by the China Railway, up 6.9% and 8.7% respectively year on year, effectively promoted the recovery and development of related industries such as
steel, cement, building materials, engineering machinery, etc., powerfully boosted economic growth, and contributing railway power to the overall construction of a socialist modern country. In 2023, it is expected that more than 3000 kilometers of new railway lines will be put into operation nationwide, including 2500 kilometers of high-speed railways, with an annual railway investment of over 760 billion yuan. With the launch of a new round of railway investment, industrial wire rod, as one of the important components of engineering, is expected to maintain a proportional growth in demand in the second half of this year.

② Supply
Consumption is the driving force of production. It is expected that in the second half of 2023, against the backdrop of slow recovery in demand, steel mills may proactively adjust production based on market demand to alleviate supply pressure. At present, industrial wire rods are mainly in North China and East China, with South China, Central China, Southwest, and Northwest as auxiliary sources. Given the enormous competitive pressure in the current building materials market, more steel mills may consider turning to industrial wire production in the future. In recent years, industrial wire production has maintained varying degrees of growth.
According to research data, it is expected that by the end of 2024, there will be 11 planned new production lines in China, with a designed production capacity of 6.05 million tons, mainly consisting of industrial wire rods.
③ Policies
The executive meeting of the State Council held on June 16th pointed out that China's overall economic operation is improving. With the introduction and implementation of early policy measures, market demand is gradually recovering, production supply continues to increase, prices and employment are generally stable, and high-quality development is steadily advancing. The meeting proposed a series of policy measures around four aspects: increasing macroeconomic policy regulation, focusing on expanding effective demand, strengthening and optimizing the real economy, and preventing and resolving risks in key areas. The meeting emphasized that policy measures that meet the conditions should be promptly introduced and implemented, while strengthening the reserve of policy measures to maximize the comprehensive effects of policies.
The National Development and Reform Commission will
launch reform measures around the following three aspects: Firstly, promoting reforms around cultivating high-quality business entities, creating a more optimized and fair market competition environment. Secondly, promoting reforms around the construction of a high standard market system, promoting the better implementation of the national unified market construction. Thirdly, promoting reforms around a better combination of effective markets and promising governments, and further improving the market access system.
With the continuous release of policy effects, the economic growth rate in the second half of the year is expected to rebound. The impact of policy factors on the demand for industrial wire rod market may increase in the second half of the year.
Summary
In the first half of 2023, the overall goal of the industrial wire rod market was to pursue stability, adopting a low inventory operation, efficient turnover, and low risk operation model. It is expected that in the second half of the year, the market may continue to operate steadily.
In the post epidemic era, the Chinese economy is gradually entering into a stage of restorative growth which has strong resilience, great potential, and abundant vitality. It is worth expecting that it will develop towards a better trend in the second half of the year. Overall, the main driving factors for the industrial wire rod market in the second half of the year are still supply, demand and policy factors. It is expected that the consumer willingness and confidence in the market will be further stabilized and improved. The construction and investment of infrastructure and manufacturing will also play a crucial role in driving economic growth. The promulgation and implementation of relevant domestic policies will also facilitate the process of economic recovery and have a positive impact on the industrial wire rod market.

2023 Global Business Tour - Thailand Station
With the economic development in Southeast Asia, Thailand has played an increasingly important role in the international trade market. Its geographical location and natural resources make it an ideal trade center and create a huge opportunity for expanding into the Southeast Asian market.
On 18th of June, the ChinaFastener Global Business Tour arrived in Thailand.
Thailand is an economic powerhouse in Southeast Asia, with its tourism, export industry, and financial sector serving as the pillars of its economy. In recent years, the Thai economy has experienced a slowdown due to global economic fluctuations and impacts. Statistical data shows that Thailand's GDP surpassed 17 trillion Thai baht in 2022, with a nominal growth rate of 7.4%. However, due to a significant decline in the average exchange rate of the Thai baht against the US dollar, Thailand's GDP experienced negative growth when measured in US dollars. In 2022, Thailand's GDP was approximately 495.21 billion US dollars, ranking second within ASEAN, only after Indonesia.
Wuerth Industry Service (Thailand)
The first stop of the tour was Wuerth Industry Service (Thailand), a globally renowned fastener company. The General Manager, Mr. Satesit Sukcharoen, warmly welcomed everyone and introduced the Wurth Group.
It is understood that Wurth Industrial has over 64 companies in 43 countries worldwide, with 11 companies in the Asia-Pacific region. Wuerth Industry Service (Thailand) is one of them and was established less than a year ago.
Thailand is one of the ASEAN countries that is favored by foreign capital, attracting a large number of foreign companies to invest and build factories. In 2022, Thailand witnessed a significant increase in foreign direct investment, reaching $12.3 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 36%.
In recent years, many industry giants like Wurth have regarded Thailand as a hot investment destination. In the first half of 2023, foreign investment in Thailand amounted to
074 CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023
nearly 49 billion Thai baht. The top five countries in terms of investment in Thailand are Japan, the United States, Singapore, China, and Switzerland. Foreign investment in Thailand mainly focuses on electronics, food processing, automotive, and other industries.
Hua Tai
On the morning of June 20th, the visiting delegation visited Hua Tai Technology (Dongguan Lisheng), a 15-year VIP member of ChinaFastener.com located near Bangkok, at their factory. Hua Tai Mould was established in 2017 and currently employs more than 20 people. They mainly produce screw thread plates, master molds, and other products.
As pioneers landing in Thailand, members of tour were eager to learn from Hua Tai Technology. From the exchange, they learned that Thailand has relatively few restrictions on foreign investment. As early as the end of the last century, Thailand issued the Foreign Business Act and has continuously reduced restrictions on investment in various industries. Thailand follows a system of "license first, registration later," meaning that companies can first register and then apply for relevant business certificates. Additionally, Thailand provides significant tax incentives for foreign enterprises. Currently, the common corporate income tax rate is 20%. However, companies or juristic partnerships with paid-up capital not exceeding 5 million Thai baht and annual revenue not exceeding 30 million Thai baht can enjoy preferential tax rates, among which the tax rate is 0% for annual revenue not exceeding 300,000 Thai baht, and 15% for annual revenue exceeding 300,000 Thai baht but not exceeding 3 million Thai baht. Furthermore, one of the most attractive benefits is
that companies in Thailand meeting certain conditions and investing more than 4 million Thai baht can permanently own the land they purchase.
V.S. Heat Treatment
The Business Tour then proceeded to the VS Heat Treatment. This local factory in Thailand has been established for over 30 years and specializes in electroplating and heat treatment services, catering to the surrounding screw factories. Thailand's fastener industry had an early start, and in addition to foreign investment, it also boasts a group of local enterprises. VS is one of them.
The enthusiastic owner provided detailed information to the tour members about the local electroplating and heat treatment processes, as well as the associated costs. The members actively asked various questions. Through the simple screw, a friendship spanning across countries was established.
S.K. Sakrunot
In the afternoon of June 20th, the business tour reached its fourth stop at S.K. Sakrunot. This is a sizable Chinese-owned factory in Thailand, primarily engaged in the production of various types of carbon steel screws. The Chairman Mr. Zeng Shengguang, who is also from China, was delighted with the meeting and personally received everyone.
"The labor costs in Thailand are relatively low compared to China." Chairman Zeng provided a detailed introduction to the relevant labor regulations in Thailand.
Based on data from 2021, the minimum wage standard in Thailand is $92.3 per month. However, the minimum wage alone does not fully reflect the labor costs in Thailand. In reality, labor costs also include expenses for social insurance, welfare, and taxes.
CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023 075
According to Thai law, employers are required to pay for employees' social insurance, with a contribution rate around 7.5%. Overtime pay during working days is 1.5 times the regular wage, while on weekend is twice the regular wage. On public holidays or during paid annual leave, overtime pay is three times the regular wage.
Samut Sakhon Industrial Estate
Samut Sakhon Industrial Estate was the next stop. This zone is conveniently located near the port and is one of the good choices for setting up factories in the outskirts of Bangkok.
In Thailand, industrial zones are generally classified into three types: the first type is General Industrial Zone (GIZ); the second type is Export Processing Zone (EPZ); and the third type is Free Trade Zone (FTZ). The majority of industrial zones in Thailand are GIZ and EPZ, with very few being FTZ.
According to incomplete statistics, there are currently over 100 industrial zones of various sizes in Thailand, of which only over 60 enjoy the preferential policies promoted by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), while the others either due to land areas too small (note: requires at least 500 rai, equivalent to approximately 1,200 acres) or have not applied, thus not enjoying the investment promotion policies. It should be noted that the mentioned investment promotion policies are specifically for investors in industrial zones, not applicable to companies located within the industrial zones. In other words, companies that are located in industrial zones that enjoy the preferential policies do not automatically enjoy related investment promotion policies.
Manufacturing Expo
On June 21st, everybody visited Manufacturing Expo. It is the largest industrial manufacturing exhibition in Thailand and one of the most influential in Southeast Asia.
According to the organizer's data, the exhibition area reached 60,000 square meters this year, with over 2,100 participating companies and brands. The exhibition also attracted many fastener companies. This provided an opportunity for members of the business tour to have in-depth exchanges with global peers and learn about the latest trends in the Southeast Asian market.
ASEAN statistics show that in 2022, Thailand's total import of fasteners was approximately $1.11 billion, accounting for about 30% of the ASEAN fastener import market and ranking first within the alliance. In terms of fastener exports, Thailand ranked second within ASEAN with an export amount of $670 million in 2022.
Thailand is a hub for automobile manufacturing in Southeast Asia, with a total automobile production exceeding 1.8 million vehicles in 2022. It is estimated that the total production will increase to 1.95 million vehicles in 2023. The automotive industry requires a large quantity of high-quality high-strength fasteners, making Japan, with its high level of fastener manufacturing, the largest importer of fasteners. As the Thai automotive industry continues to develop, the demand for high-strength fasteners will further increase.
Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Estate
On June 22nd, the visiting delegation's last stop on their business itinerary was the Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Estate. Established in 2006, the Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial
076 CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023
Estate is located over 100 kilometers southeast of the Thai capital Bangkok and is one of China's first overseas economic and trade cooperation zones.
The zone is situated on the eastern coast of Thailand, near the capital city of Bangkok and the deep-water port of Laem Chabang. It has a total planned area of 20 square kilometers, including general industrial zones, bonded zones, logistics and warehousing zones, and commercial and residential areas. It mainly attracts Chinese companies in industries such as automotive parts, machinery, and household appliances to set up factories in the park. The Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Estate has been recognized by the Chinese government as an "overseas economic and trade cooperation zone" - a cluster center and manufacturing and export base for China's traditional advantageous industries in Thailand.
As a founding member of ASEAN, Thailand is located at the center of Southeast Asia and has long been attracting investors from around the world with its well-developed infrastructure, favorable investment environment, strong market radiating capacity, stable social and political environment, and friendly and rich culture.
As one of the most watched emerging markets, the Southeast Asian fastener market has maintained steady growth in recent years. Especially influenced by the international trade situation in recent years, more and more international companies have shifted their focus to Southeast Asia. As the largest importer of fasteners in Southeast Asia, Thailand is an ideal stage for fastener companies to explore.

2023 Global Business Tour - Vietnam Station
In recent years, emerging areas such as Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East have increasingly gained importance in the fastener market. As an important part of the Southeast Asian market, Vietnam has attracted global attention from the fastener industry, especially China. On August 6th, 2022, the ChinaFastener Global Business Tour set off for a six-day overseas visit and exchange trip in Vietnam. After the previous stop in Thailand, ChinaFastener once again shifted its focus to the Southeast Asia, helping Chinese fastener companies explore business opportunities in emerging markets.
In 2022, Vietnam's GDP growth rate reached 8%. The rapid development of the economy has stimulated the demand in downstream industries such as construction, automotive, and engineering machinery, leading to a continuous expansion of the fastener market. On the other hand, some international fastener companies have started to shift their business to Southeast Asia due to international trade friction.
During the six-day's visit from August 6th to 11th, members in the tour have deepened their understanding of the forefront of the Vietnamese fastener market and gained insights into future industry trends by visiting screw factories, mold factories, wire factories, distributors, exhibitions, and industrial zones.
On the morning of August 7th, as the first stop in Vietnam, the delegation departed from Hanoi and visited the Guangming Warehouse in Bien Hoa, Dong Nai Province. Bien Hoa city, located 30 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, is one of the industrial centers in southern Vietnam, attracting many foreign investment companies, mainly focused on exporting to Europe and America.
"The Vietnam factory was established in 2011, and we have been here for more than ten years. It is more convenient for us to trade with the United States here is Vietnam." said Sun Changhui, the general manager of Guangming Warehouse, to the visiting delegation. "In addition to warehousing equipment, we also have a screw trading company in Dongguan called Dongguan Dekai." The members of the delegation had in-depth discussions. Mr. Sun's sharing of his experience in setting up

factories in Vietnam and exporting products provided valuable insights.
Vietnam is regarded by many as the biggest beneficiary of international trade frictions. Currently, Vietnam has signed two significant free trade agreements: the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). These agreements enable Vietnam to enjoy more tariff preferences when exporting to markets such as Canada, Japan, Mexico, Peru, France, and Germany, creating enormous export advantages for Vietnam.
In 2022, the total value of fasteners exported from Vietnam to the United States reached approximately $120 million, making it Vietnam's second-largest export market. On the other hand, fastener imports from the United States amounted to $21 million, resulting in a significant trade surplus. In recent years, a large amount of foreign investment has poured into Vietnam to invest in fastener factories, mainly for exporting to Europe and America. Vietnam has signed a free trade agreement with Europe, so fastener enterprises exporting to Europe enjoy zero tariffs. For exports to the United States, specific tariffs range from 0% to 12.5% depending on the type of fasteners.
To prevent some companies from using Vietnam as a transit point for exporting to the United States, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has clarified the "Made in Vietnam" origin rules. According to these rules, "Made in Vietnam" means: agricultural products and resources originated from Vietnam or products that have been completed in Vietnam, with at least 30% local value-added based on the international HS code standard. In other words, if a product is made with 100% imported materials, it must have an additional 30% value added in Vietnam to be labeled as "Made in Vietnam" for export.
After visiting Guangming Warehouse, the delegation drove to Phuong Yang Province in the north of Ho Chi Minh City. Phuong Yang is also one of the main areas for foreign investment in Vietnam. The four companies visited in the afternoon are all located there.
Jieng Beeing
In the afternoon, the tour firstly stopped at Jieng Beeing, a Taiwanese-owned enterprise in Vietnam. Mr. Chen Kuowen, the deputy general manager of Jieng Beeing, and Mr. Liu Cheng-wei warmly welcomed the delegation.
"We have been in Vietnam for over ten years and currently are the only manufacturer of screw die here," Mr. Chen introduced some basic information about the fastener market in Vietnam and the labor conditions. "Choosing to establish our factory in Vietnam is also based on the relatively low labor costs."
According to data from 2021, the minimum wage in Vietnam is $72.5 per month. Vietnamese law mandates that employers contribute to employees' retirement insurance, social insurance, and medical insurance at a rate of 21.5%. Employees should not work more than 48 hours per week or 8 hours per day. If employees need to work overtime, employers must pay for overtim, which is 150% of normal wages; for weekends, the pay should not be less than 200% of normal wages; for holidays, paid rest days, the pay should not be less than 300% of normal wages.
Essence Fastener
Later in the afternoon, the delegation went to Essence Fastener in Vietnam. Mr. Wong Ching Kai, the general manager of Essence Fastener, personally led everyone through a factory tour to see the production, heat treatment, anti-loosening adhesive, packaging workshops, and laboratories. "We started expanding in Vietnam this year, and the production scale here will continue to expand in the future," Mr. Wong introduced. The delegation spoke highly of the modern and tidy facilities of Essence Fastener.
CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023 079
Trade between China and Vietnam is close, with Vietnam importing $50.1 billion worth of goods from China in the first half of 2023, making China the largest source of Vietnam's imported goods for several consecutive years. However, Vietnam only exported $25.6 billion worth of goods to China, resulting in a trade deficit of $24.5 billion in bilateral trade with China. China has always been the largest source country of fastener imports for Vietnam. In 2022, Vietnam imported approximately $360 million worth of fasteners from China, while only exporting $6.68 million worth of fasteners to China.
Tien Wei
Later, the group visited Tienwei, a Taiwanese-owned enterprise in Vietnam. Established in 2005, Tienwei primarily produces flat washers, most of which are exported from Vietnam to foreign countries. Over the years, Taiwan has been continuously investing in Vietnam. In 2022, Taiwan's investment in Vietnam amounted to approximately $1.35 billion, ranking sixth in terms of total investment. Taiwan is also the fourth largest importer of fasteners for Vietnam, with imports from Taiwan reaching around $59 million in 2022.
On the other hand, Taiwan has actively pursued "industrial relocation" to Vietnam, which includes many supporting fastener-related companies, such as the one we visited, Jieng Beeing. With foreign investment, Vietnam has gradually formed
a complete industry chain for fasteners. In 2022, Vietnam's total import value of fasteners reached $730 million, a 25% increase over four years. The total export value reached $680 million, showing a 45% increase over four years, much of which is attributed to foreign investment.
Antool Hardware Tools
The visiting delegation also visited Ningbo Anchor's Vietnamese company, Antool Hardware Tools. Mr. Cheng Ta-lung, the Executive VP of Antool opened the product demonstration room and showed us the factory on a tour, providing an opportunity for everyone to observe and learn, as well as inquire about relevant details.
"Antool Hardware Tools was established in 2019 with a land area of 50,000 square meters and a factory area of 30,000 square meters. It is primarily engaged in cold heading production," Mr. Cheng shared information about the company. He also shared some insights on investing in Southeast Asia, saying, "Currently, Thailand and Vietnam are more commonly considered in Southeast Asia. Thailand uses market exchange rates with minimal institutional intervention, resulting in greater volatility. For companies seeking stability, they need to consider the exchange rate risk in Thailand. Vietnam's major advantage is its relatively stable exchange rate, allowing businesses to avoid risks caused by exchange rate fluctuations when investing here."
TengYuan Wire (Vietnam)
On August 8th, the third day in Vietnam, the visiting delegation arrived at Longjiang Industrial Park located in the Binh Duong Province to visit TengYuan Wire (Vietnam). Teng Yuan Wire (Vietnam) Co., Ltd was established by TENGLONG
080 CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023
STAINLESS STEEL PRODUCTS GROUP in 2018. It covers an area of 20,000 square meters and mainly produces high-quality stainless steel wire.
Mr. Zhu Xianzhi, the General Manager of TengYuan Wire (Vietnam), warmly welcomed the visiting delegation. During the interactive session, Mr. Zhu shared in detail about the company's products, the industry market, and enterprise investment and operations. The members also learned about some investment policies of Longjiang Industrial Park from Mr. Zhu.
Longjiang Industrial Park is one of the national-level overseas economic and trade cooperation zones designated by the Ministry of Commerce of China. The construction of this industrial park started in 2007 and covers a total area of 600 hectares. The Vietnamese government provides the most favorable tax incentives to attract business investments in the park. Enterprises in the park enjoy a 15-year income tax preference period starting from the year when they make revenue, with a preferential tax rate of 10% (compared to Vietnam's current corporate income tax rate of 25%). They are also exempt from taxation for the first four profitable years and have their tax rate halved for the following nine years. This policy is currently the most beneficial tax policy in Vietnam.
After the visit to TengYuan Wire (Vietnam), the delegation flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi to visit Fastener Fair Vietnam - the Vietnam Manufacturing Expo which will open on August 9th.
Fastener Fair Vietnam
On August 9th, the business tour went to the site of Fastener Fair Vietnam 2023 which opened the same time as VME. This exhibition marks the first appearance of a fastener professional exhibition in Vietnam. As a concurrent event of Vietnam Manufacturing Expo (VME) in Hanoi, according to the organizer RX Tradex, the three-day exhibition attracted nearly 200 companies from over 20 countries and had over 10,000 visitors.
According to ASEAN statistics, in 2022, Vietnam imported fasteners worth around $730 million, accounting for about 20% of ASEAN's export volume and ranking second after Thailand,
but with a higher growth rate. In terms of fastener exports, Vietnam exported fasteners worth around $680 million in 2022, accounting for about 30% of ASEAN's fastener exports, ranking first.
Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia, relying mainly on manufacturing, services, and agriculture. Due to the national conditions in Vietnam, there is strong demand in the market for fasteners in the fields of engineering machinery and its components, as well as the automotive and motorcycle industries. The market has great growth potential. Effect of the Hardness of the Clamped Part on the Anti-Loosening Performance of the Double Fold Self-Locking Washer
Abstract: Double fold self-locking washers are a commonly used anti-loosening fastener, and their structural characteristics determine that the hardness of the clamped part will have an impact on its antiloosening performance, but the quantitative impact law is not yet clear. In order to quantitatively evaluate the impact of the hardness of the clamped part on the anti-loosening performance of the double fold selflocking washer, this article uses the critical lateral force as the quantitative evaluation index of the antiloosening performance, and compares the anti-loosening performance of the double fold self-locking washer under four hardness conditions of 20, 30, 40, and 50HRC of the clamped part. The following conclusion is drawn: when the hardness of the clamped part is 30HRC, the anti-loosening performance of the threaded connection composed of double fold self-locking washers is the best. If the hardness is too small or too large, the anti-loosening performance will be reduced.

Overview
Threads have the advantages of simple structure, high reliability, and easy assembly, so bolt connection is one of the most widely used connection methods in mechanical systems. A large amount of project experience has shown that threaded connections are prone to loosening and failure in vibration environments. The looseness and failure of threaded connections seriously affect the reliability and lifespan of mechanical products. In project implementations, quality problems and accidents caused by loosening and failure of threaded connections always happen. In order to prevent the loosening and failure of threaded connections, people usually use fasteners with anti-loosening effects, including various anti-loosening washers and nuts. Among them, double fold self-locking washers (abbreviated as self-locking washers) have been widely used in the industry due to their excellent antiloosening performance.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the washer is composed of upper and lower washers, stacked together. There is a radial toothed structure on the side where the upper and lower washers connects the clamped part or nut. A periodically distributed wedge-shaped surface is placed on the side where the upper and lower washers contact each other, with a wedge-shaped angle of α, and the wedge angle α is greater than the thread rise angle β. Under the effect of preload, the wedge-shaped surfaces of the upper and lower washers work with each other, while the radial toothed structure wedges into the material inside the clamped part or nut. When there is a likelihood of rotational looseness in the threaded connection, the radial toothed structure ensures that the upper and lower washers do not move against the clamped part or nut. On the side where the upper and lower washers are contacted, there will be a tendency for mutual separation under the

action of the wedge surface, thereby increasing the preload and suppressing further development of rotational loosening. Reference [1] compared self-locking washers with spring washers, toothed washers, and flat washers. Through lateral vibration tests, it was found that self-locking washers have good anti-loosening effects.
Based on the working principle of the self-locking washer mentioned above, it can be seen that the key factor affecting the anti-loosening performance of the washer is whether the radial toothed structure can be wedged into the interior of the clamped material and ensure that there is no misalignment. Due to the fact that the hardness of the clamped part is the key to determining the wedging effect of the radial tooth structure, it will have an impact on the anti-loosening performance of the washer. Project experience has shown that excessive or insufficient hardness of the clamped material can have adverse effects on the anti-loosening performance of the washer. However, there is currently a lack of relevant quantitative data. This article discusses the quantitative evaluation method of
anti-loosening performance, and quantitatively studies the influence of the hardness of the clamped part on the antiloosening performance of self-locking washers based on lateral vibration tests. This article can help relevant project technical personnel clarify the optimal conditions for the use of selflocking washers, and has guiding significance for the selection of self-locking washers and the formulation of heat treatment processes for clamped material.
Quantitative evaluation method for antiloosening performance Test methods
This article studies the anti-loosening performance of self-locking washers based on lateral vibration tests. The socalled lateral vibration test method was first developed by G H. Junker proposed [2]. He verified through this experimental method that lateral vibration loads can easily cause loosening of threaded connections. Later, this test method was standardized. Common standards include: German standard DIN 65151 [3], international standard ISO 16130-2015 [4], and Chinese standard GB/T 10431-2008 [5]. The lateral vibration test equipment that meets the Chinese standard GB/T 104312008 (see Figure 3 for the structural diagram) can only perform open-loop control on the amplitude, and the difference between the actual amplitude and the set eccentricity during the vibration process is often large and unstable. In order to solve this problem, reference [6] proposed the idea of closedloop control of lateral force in lateral vibration testing, and improved the lateral vibration testing equipment to have the function of closed-loop control of lateral force (the improved experimental device structure diagram is shown in Figure 4). The subsequent experiments in this article are all based on improved lateral vibration testing equipment.

Evaluation indicators
In order to quantitatively evaluate the anti-loosening performance of fasteners (or threaded connections), it is necessary to establish scientific quantitative evaluation indicators for anti-loosening performance. Based on the lateral vibration test, reference [7] proposed a typical preload attenuation curve as shown in Figure 5. Among them, the rotational looseness of the threaded connection significantly affects the slope of the second stage in Figure 5. When the slope of the second stage of the attenuation curve shown in Figure 5 is zero or slightly less than zero (the preload is slowly attenuated by non-rotational loosening factors such as wear), it means that the threaded connection has not undergone rotational loosening; When the slope in the second stage is significantly less than zero, it means that rotational loosening has occurred. Moreover, the larger the absolute value of the slope, the more severe the rotational loosening becomes. Research [8] has demonstrated that for lateral vibration tests, there exists a critical value for lateral force. When the lateral force applied in the test is less than this critical value, the threaded connection will not experience rotational loosening; When the lateral force applied in the test exceeds this critical value, the threaded connection will experience rotational loosening. Therefore, the critical value of lateral force (or critical lateral force) can be used as a quantitative evaluation indicator for the anti-loosening performance of fasteners (or threaded connections).
In order to quantitatively obtain the absolute value of the slope of the second stage of the preload attenuation curve, this article uses the slope analysis method proposed in reference [6]. Firstly, divide the preload attenuation curve into m segments according to a specific number of cycles n (as shown in Figure 6). The value of n in this article is selected after rounding according to one fourth of the actual total number of vibration cycles. For example, the total number of vibration cycles for a certain sample is 1556, with a quarter of it being 389. Therefore, during the data processing of this sample, it is rounded up to n=400. Then, based on the least squares method, fit the absolute slope value ai of each small segment. Among all the absolute values of slope, select the smallest value amin as the absolute value of the second stage slope of the preload attenuation curve (unit: N/ period).
In order to compare the anti-loosening performance under different initial preloads, reference [6] normalized the absolute value of slope. That is, divide the absolute value of the obtained slope by the initial preload, and then multiply by 100% (Unit: %/period). This processing process can be expressed using formula (1), where k refers to the final normalized slope obtained, and F0 is the initial preload.
k = [min(ai, i = 1,2,
In order to judge whether there is rotational loosening of the threaded connection, according to the slope threshold of 0.01%/ period proposed in the reference [6] and the test results in this paper, 0.015%/ period is finally selected as the evaluation basis. When the normalized slope k of the second stage of the attenuation curve is greater than 0.015%/ period, it can be approximated that rotational loosening has occurred. It should be noted here that 0.015%/ period is an empirical data, which approximately represents the slow preload attenuation caused by non-rotational loosening factors such as wear. By using the above method, the transverse force, that is, the critical transverse force, can be approximately found when rotating loosening occurs. The specific process can be referred to the work of the literature [6], which will not be repeated here.
Test plan Test samples
Based on the previous experimental methods, quantitative evaluation indicators for anti-loosening performance, and data acquisition methods, this paper designed and completed a set of experiments to quantitatively test the anti-loosening performance of self-locking washers under different hardness of the clamped parts. The information of the samples used in the experiment is shown in Table 1. Among them, the hex bolt meets the GB/T5783 standard, the hex nut meets the GB/T6170 standard, and the material of the clamped part is 45 steel.

Through different heat treatments, four types of hardness, namely 20, 30, 40, and 50HRC, can be obtained. Before the start of the experiment, the bolts and nuts were ultrasonically cleaned, and the installation effect of the tested sample on the test bench is shown in Figure 7.
Test parameters
According to different hardness of the clamped parts, the test is divided into four large groups (corresponding to the hardness of the clamped parts at 20, 30, 40, and 50HRC, respectively). At the same time, each large group is further divided into two groups based on the different initial preloads (corresponding to the initial preloads of 26kN and 34kN respectively). In addition, each group experiment included several different lateral force conditions, as shown in Table 2. Vibration for 1600 cycles, with a vibration frequency of 5Hz. Three repeated tests are required under each test condition, and each test sample is only used once.
Test results
In actual experiments, the attenuation curve of preload for some samples showed a significant decrease in the first stage. Therefore, directly selecting the initial preload F0 as the denominator in equation (1) would have a significant impact on the results. In order to reduce errors, this article linearly fits the data in the interval where amin is located, replacing F0 in equation (1) with the intersection value F1 of the fitted curve and the vertical axis. Taking a sample in Group 2 of the second largest group (30HRC) with a lateral force of 4.6kN as an example, the minimum normalized slope of the sample
occurs between 400-800 cycles. Therefore, sample points with periods of 400-800 are taken for linear fitting and a linear function is obtained. Meanwhile, F1 is calculated based on the function. The detailed process is shown in Figure 8.
Determine whether rotational loosening occurs according to the normalized slope threshold of 0.015%/ period described above. Under a certain experimental condition, when the mean normalized slope of the three samples is greater than the slope threshold, it can be approximately assumed that rotational loosening has occurred under that experimental condition. Moreover, only when the mean normalized slope obtained from three randomly selected samples under a certain experimental condition is less than the slope threshold, is it considered that rotational loosening has not occurred under that experimental condition. It should be noted that the slope results obtained from different samples have a certain degree of randomness. In order to obtain more accurate and reliable results, it is possible to repeat more samples under a certain experimental condition for statistical analysis. However, in order to control the experimental workload, this article did not adopt this approach. Taking Group 2 of the second largest group (30HRC) in the test as an example, the normalized mean slope and standard deviation under different lateral forces are shown in Figure 9. Based on the aforementioned judgment criteria, the sample did not experience rotational loosening at 5.4kN, while the sample experienced rotational loosening at 5.6kN. Therefore, it can be concluded that the critical lateral force under this condition is approximately between 5.4kN and 5.6kN. In this article, 5.4kN is approximately taken as the critical lateral force under this condition.

Figure 8 Second stage linear fitting method for preload attenuation curve
Figure 9 Normalized slope under different lateral forces
Using the same method, the results of measuring the critical lateral force corresponding to the initial preload of 26kN and 34kN on the clamped parts with four different hardness are shown in Table 3. In addition, in order to investigate whether self-locking washers can significantly improve the anti-loosening performance of bolted connections, this article compares the experimental results without washers obtained from literature [6] and others with the experimental results in this article (The specifications, materials, and surface treatment of the bolts and nuts used in the experiment in reference [6] are identical to those in this article). The line graph drawn based on the data in Table 3 and the experimental results in reference [6] is shown in Figure 10.
Initial preload
Hardness of clamped parts
From the above results, it can be seen that the critical lateral force increases with the increase of preload. This indicates that increasing the preload can effectively improve the anti-loosening performance of threaded connections. In addition, it can be clearly seen that the anti-loosening performance of the threaded connection corresponding to the clamped part with a hardness of 30HRC is significantly better than that of the other three types of hardness.
In addition, comparing the test results without washers with the test results in this article, it can be seen that the critical lateral force of bolt connections with washers is significantly greater than that of bolt connections without washers under any initial preload conditions. This indicates that selflocking washers can significantly improve the anti-loosening performance of bolted connections.
Conclusion
This article uses the critical lateral force as a quantitative evaluation indicator for anti-loosening performance, and based on the improved lateral vibration test equipment, quantitative testing was conducted on the anti-loosening performance of clamped parts with four hardness conditions of 20, 30, 40, and 50HRC. Under the experimental conditions of this study, it was concluded that when the hardness of the clamped part is 30HRC, the self-locking washer has the best anti-loosening performance. If the hardness is too small or too large, it will reduce the anti-loosening performance of the selflocking washer.

Manufacturing Expo 2023Exploring the Potential of Emerging Markets in Southeast Asia
As one of the most concerned emerging markets, the fastener market in Southeast Asia has maintained steady growth in recent years. Especially affected by the international trade situation in recent years, more and more Chinese enterprises have turned their attention to Southeast Asia. As the largest importer of fasteners in Southeast Asia, Thailand is undoubtedly an ideal stage for international fastener companies to explore the Southeast Asian market.
From June 21 to 24, local time, Manufacturing Expo was held in Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center, Thailand.
Held annually in Bangkok, Thailand, Manufacturing Expo is the most influential industrial manufacturing exhibition in Thailand, and its exhibition scale is second to none in Southeast Asia. This year's exhibition area reached 60,000 square meters, and the number of visitors and exhibitors
was about 55,580 and 2,100, respectively. The exhibition consists of five international professional events, including automotive component manufacturing, plastic manufacturing, mold manufacturing, industrial automation, and industrial component surface treatment.
While distributing magazines, ChinaFastener also invited numerous foreign buyers to participate in the 14th Fastener Expo Shanghai (FES) held at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center from March 20 to 22 next year.
The rising Southeast Asian market
China and ASEAN are important manufacturing bases in the world and have huge consumer markets. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 nearly three years ago, trade between China and ASEAN has continued to grow and has become each other's largest trading partner, with two-way trade reaching a record high. The total trade volume in 2022 reached 975.34 billion US dollars, an increase of 11.2% year-onyear. The mature and effective cooperation mechanism has strongly supported the steady progress of cooperation and development between China and ASEAN, and the bilateral cooperation has shown fruitful results. Data show that by the end of July 2022, China and ASEAN have become the most active partners in mutual investment with a cumulative twoway investment of more than 340 billion US dollars.
Thailand: One of the most valued fastener markets in Southeast Asia
Thailand is the second largest economy among Southeast Asian countries after Indonesia, and is also recognized as one of the world's emerging industrial countries and

emerging market economies. Thailand's manufacturing industry, such as the electronics industry, has developed rapidly, and the industrial structure has changed significantly. It is also the Southeast Asian automobile manufacturing center and the largest automobile market in ASEAN, and also the Southeast Asian automobile manufacturing hub, and the automobile has become its pillar industry. Its automobile production in 2022 exceeded 1.8 million vehicles, and it is expected that the total production will increase to 1.95 million vehicles by 2023. The automotive industry requires a large number of high-quality and high-strength fasteners. Therefore, Japan, which has a high level of fastener manufacturing, has become Thailand's largest source of imports. China and the United States are also important trading partners of Thailand.
In terms of fastener imports, Thailand's import volume of fasteners in 2022 was approximately $1.115 billion, which has maintained stable growth in recent years. Currently, Thailand accounts for approximately 30% of ASEAN's fastener import market, ranking first within ASEAN. For fastener enterprises, Thailand's fastener market has high exploration value and development space, especially for highstrength fasteners.

Vietnam Manufacturing Expo 2023The Vietnamese Market Has a Promising Future
Gathering global fastener enterprises, FASTNER FAIR toured Vietnam. As the first exhibition to land in Vietnam, the opening day of the 2023 Fastener Fair Vietnam sparked a wave of visits. On August 9, ChinaFastener with the newly released 34th issue of China Fastener Magazine (CFM) directly to the scene, take you to explore the business opportunities of Vietnam fastener market.
According to the organizers, as a concurrent exhibition of Vietnam Manufacturing Expo (VME), over 200 enterprises from more than 20 countries around the world participated in the exhibition within three days, with over 10000 visitors. The future of the Vietnamese market is worth imagining.
The Vietnamese market has a promising future
"This is the first time for me to visit the exhibition in Vietnam, and I saw a lot of excellent Asian enterprises, all kinds of new products and new technologies on the scene. Every booth has a surprise." A buyer from the United States said in an interview.
"This exhibition, whether it is from the number of exhibitors, or the number of visitors, has revealed a very obvious signal that the Vietnamese fastener market is very prosperous, and we are also very optimistic about the future Southeast Asian market." Many exhibitors are optimistic about the Vietnamese market.
The growth of Vietnam's fastener industry has tangible data. In 2022, Vietnam's total fastener imports and exports reached $730 million and $680 million, respectively. Compared
to the four years since 2018, total imports and exports have increased by 25% and 45% respectively. Whether from the perspective of import or export, the development of Vietnam's fastener industry in recent years is very rapid.
The prosperity of the Vietnamese fastener market has been driven by the following two factors. On the one hand, Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest economic development in the world, with a GDP growth rate of 8% in 2022. The rapidly developing economy has stimulated the demand for downstream industries such as construction, automobiles, and construction machinery, driving the expansion of the fastener market year by year; On the other hand, due to the impact of international trade frictions, some international fastener enterprises have begun to transfer their industries to Southeast Asia.
A large number of international enterprises have entered the Vietnamese market, so the industry range of the exhibitors is also very broad, mainly including assembly and installation systems, construction fasteners, fastener manufacturing technology, fastener production machinery, industrial fasteners, screws and fasteners, etc.
Participation of Chinese fastener enterprises
China has always been the largest import source of Vietnamese fasteners. In 2022, Vietnam's total fastener imports from China reached 360 million US dollars, accounting for about 49% of Vietnam's total fastener imports, and China basically monopolized half of Vietnam's fastener imports.
112 CFM - Issue 35 - Sep. 2023 Exhibition
With a market size of nearly 100 million consumers, Vietnam represents huge potential for economic growth. Its demand for fasteners also continues to grow, so it is regarded as an important target market for export by many Chinese fastener enterprises.
It is understood that nearly half of the exhibitors at this Vietnam exhibition are from China, with a total of about 60. The Yongnian District Import and Export Chamber of Commerce actively organized enterprises to explore the Southeast Asian market, and a total of 39 fastener enterprises were organized to participate in this exhibition.
"Over the past decade, the development rate of the fastener market in Southeast Asia has far exceeded our expectations. In the future, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and other countries will become more and more important markets for Chinese fastener enterprises." Su Quantao, chairman and general manager of BSC Corporation Ltd. expressed confidence.
ChinaFastener appears in Southeast Asia
ChinaFastener has been committed to helping Chinese fastener enterprises to explore overseas markets. In this Vietnam exhibition, ChinaFastener organized a professional team to go overseas to participate in the exhibition and bring you the latest information of the Southeast Asian market. (Booth number: Fastener Hall I10)
According to a on-site visit by a journalist from ChinaFastener, it can be seen that the buyers for this exhibition include various fields such as construction, automotive, aerospace, marine industry, electronic and electrical products, general engineering (light and heavy industries), energy and power generation, communication technology, metal products, furniture manufacturing, sanitary ware and plumbing installation, which also provides rare business opportunities for Chinese fastener enterprises.
At the same time, the ChinaFastener team actively distributed the 34th issue of China Fastener Magazine (CFM) to buyers. China's fastener suppliers generally have an excellent reputation among international buyers, and there are many buyers on the scene to consult the relevant information of Chinese suppliers.
ChinaFastener is also honored to interview the organizers of this exhibition. According to the organizer's introduction, half of the enterprises at this fastener exhibition are from China. In the future, the investment target will be extended to more European and American enterprises. The scale of the Fastener Fair Vietnam will be larger and it will be held independently from VME, while not ruling out the possibility of holding exhibitions in Ho Chi Minh City in the future. For fastener enterprises, this is undoubtedly an opportunity to expand into the Southeast Asian market.
Prospects for the Vietnamese fastener market
The fastener market in Vietnam is an emerging and dynamic field that has been rapidly developing. Vietnam is one of the most attractive destinations for foreign investment in manufacturing, especially in the fields of automobiles, electronics, shipbuilding, and construction. These industries require a large number of fasteners, such as screws, bolts, nuts, rivets, washers, etc. In 2022, Vietnam imported about 730 million US dollars of fasteners, which shows the huge potential of Vietnam's fastener market.
It is expected that the fastener market in Vietnam will continue to develop in the future, as Vietnam will attract more foreign investment and develop its manufacturing industry. Vietnam has also participated in Free Trade Agreement (FTA), such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which can create more opportunities for Vietnam's fastener industry and market.
The analysis of the current situation and development trends of the global fastener industry market in 2022 shows that the Asia Pacific region is the world's largest fastener market. The Asia Pacific region accounted for 42.7% of global fastener industry revenue in 2021, and is expected to maintain a leading position in the coming years. As an important member of the Asia Pacific region, Vietnam will play an important role in it.

"BEST FOR YOU"
Welfast focuses on quality and service
Shanghai Welfast Enterprise Co., Ltd. was founded in 2004. It is a professional fastener supplier integrating production and trade. The headquarter is located in the bustling commercial area of Shanghai. The factory is located in Haiyan (China' s fastener production base), adjacent to Shanghai. Over the past two decades, Welfast has continued to grow and become a high-profile leader in the industry.
Welfast specializes in manufacturing and selling highquality fasteners in German (DIN), International (ISO), American (ANSI/ASME), British (BS), Australian (AS/NZS), Japanese (JIS), and Korean (KS) standards, and can manufacture special fasteners according to customer needs. Their products include four series and more than thirty varieties, including bolts, nuts, rods, washers, etc. The product materials range across carbon
steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper, etc. The company's products are exported to Pacific coastal countries and regions such as Europe, America, Southeast Asia, and Australia.
High quality and diversified nut products
Welfast products are mainly nuts, but also provide customers with various specifications of bolts, screws, washers and so on. Welfast's product characteristics are mainly reflected in its excellent quality and diversified variety, which can meet the needs of different customers.
"In order to ensure the quality of each product, we adopt advanced production processes and high-quality raw materials to strictly control the quality of each production process." Mr. Fei from Welfast introduced, "We are well aware of the importance of product quality to customers, so we have established strict quality standards."
To meet international challenges by improving quality and service
In recent years, due to the impact of trade wars and antidumping measures, the foreign trade environment for Chinese fastener enterprises has become increasingly severe. Welfast has taken various measures to address this issue.
"Customers always value product quality and service." Mr. Fei summarized years of experience in foreign trade. "Firstly, we strictly control product quality and respond to market competition by improving product quality. At the same time, we focus on improving service levels, responding to customer

needs in a timely manner, providing comprehensive service support, and winning customer trust and support with highquality services."
To some extent, these measures have alleviated the impact of trade wars and anti-dumping on Welfast's business, and also opened up a broader overseas market for Welfast.
Targeting emerging markets to achieve global development
"At present, Welfast's export business is mainly concentrated in the European, Australian, and Southeast Asian markets, which are our main sources of customers. However, we have not stopped here. In the future, we have plans to enter more emerging markets and become truly global." Mr. Fei revealed his ambition in an interview.
Welfast has established long-term and friendly cooperation with many world-renowned fastener companies. In order to achieve the strategic goal of global development, Welfast will vigorously explore the Latin American, African and Middle
Eastern markets from this year.
As Mr. Fei said: "Only by being customer-oriented, quality at the core, innovation driven, and constantly forging ahead, can we occupy a place in the fierce competition in the global market."

Focusing on producing high-quality screws
DM Screw Faces Market Challenges Directly
DM Screw Hardware Products Co., Ltd. was founded in Dongguan, Guangdong in October 2013. The headquarter moved to Yangjiang City in June 2020. It is a modern Taiwanese enterprise specializing in research and development, design, manufacturing, and sales of screws.
DM Screw has its own research and development team and advanced production equipment, which can meet customers' needs for various materials, specifications, standard and nonstandard screws.
High quality self-drilling screws
DM Screw is renowned for producing various high quality self-drilling screws. The products include Ultra S.S.Screw (high-strength corrosion-resistant stainless steel screw), self-drilling screws made of materials such as 316, 304, and 410. It also produces coiling screws, collated screws, copper
screws, aluminum screws, 600mm long screws, stainless steel composite screws, mechanical screws, electronic screws, automotive screws, nuts, stamping parts, etc.
"We canproduce various standard and non-standard parts based on the drawings provided by customers," said Yeh Kuochuan, the general manager of DM Screw.
DM Screw has established a comprehensive quality management system and production management system that comply with ISO9001-2015, IATF16949, and BSCI: 2014 standards. The company is also equipped with various measuring instruments and inspection equipment to ensure compliance with high-quality standards.
Leading Ultra S.S.Screw patented anti-rust technology
DM Screw's Ultra S.S.Screw (high-strength corrosion-

resistant stainless steel screw) patented technology has rust prevention capabilities that exceed 304, 316 materials and can replace the complex processes of Bi-metal.
The biggest feature of this stainless steel screw is that it does not need to go through the dual material welding, lathe processing, thread rolling, cleaning, surface treatment and other procedures of the composite screw, and can be directly formed in one process. Compared with composite screws, high-strength stainless steel screws have a surface hardness of 580HV, a core hardness of over 520HV, a tensile coefficient of 173kgf/mm2, and can resist corrosion for over 3000 hours and acid rain for over 50 cycles. This screw itself is rust and corrosion resistant, and no further surface treatment is required.
"Our screw will not rust after 50 years of continuous use," said Mr. Yeh confidently. "I hope to promote it to various industries such as wind power, photovoltaic, automotive, shipbuilding, and construction."
Compared to traditional composite screws, Ultra S.S.Screw has lower production costs, faster production speed, larger output, shorter delivery time, and energy saving and carbon reduction. Against the backdrop of global inflation and EU carbon tariffs, this screw can help customers improve cost competitiveness and increase their environmental contribution.
More than 12,000 square meters of new plant and more than 10,000 tons of annual capacity
In June 2020, DM Screw moved from Dongguan to the Industrial Transfer Industrial Park in Yangjiang Wanxiang, further expanding its scale. After the relocation, the new factory covers an area of 12,736 square meters and a building area of 10,516 square meters. At present, the monthly production capacity of DM Screw reaches 1 billion, the annual output reaches 10,000 tons, the products have been exported
to the world, and become the designated supplies of wellknown manufacturers.
Quality and credit are the fundamentals of the continuous development and growth of DM Screw. In the face of fierce global competition, Mr. Yeh said that in the future, we will continue to meet market demand and focus on the production of high-quality screw products.
