ORIGINAL SERIES SYNOPSIS

Abdul Malik’s a Canadian-Pakistani screenwriter and film school dropout who spent a decade working in international labor struggle before co-writing Peace By Chocolate, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Recently, Abdul wrote on CTV’s Transplant and the feature Queen Tut. He’s developing series with companies like Sha esbury and Lark Productions, a ended TIFF’s Series Accelerator, was named a Playback 10 to Watch, and is a CFC graduate. Abdul’s a member of the Writers Guild of Canada.

Amidst chaotic land grabs reshaping North America in the year 1869, an enigmatic and unlikely Arab Muslim guide in Northern Canada is hired by the British Crown to lead five men with nothing to lose through dangerous wilderness on a mysterious mission, and soon realizes they’re being hunted by a supernatural terror from his past.

Emma is a Toronto-based writer from Vancouver. She wrote, directed and produced the short Pippa Eats (Toronto Indie Film Festival, Canada Shorts), produced Season 1 of the digital series Running with Violet, wrote on Seasons 2 and 3 of the CBC digital series True Dating Stories, and was a writers’ assistant for Amazon’s The Kids in the Hall. Emma holds a BA (Hons) in English from the University of Toronto and is a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s Bell Media Prime Time TV Program. In the evenings, Emma performs stand up comedy in Toronto.

SYNOPSIS

Frustrated people-pleaser, Frankie, ventures undercover in a sting operation involving her favourite barista… who’s also working for a dangerous cocaine kingpin. With the support of two rogue cops, Joanne and Sal, Frankie gets closer to Jez, the charismatic young barista, using the cops’ intel that Jez has a crush on Frankie. But ge ing close to Jez proves challenging, especially when the assumption that he likes her is thrown into dispute. Did he ever really like her, or was he just being nice? Soon, the mousy, obedient girl Frankie once was fades, replaced by the rebellious woman she always wanted to be, all with fatal consequences.

EMMA MALM

Clint Murphy is a genre screenwriter from Toronto and a graduate of the CFC. His passion for telling diverse sci-fi, fantasy, and supernatural stories transports the audience to new worlds and realities. Clint’s original sci-fi pilot, The Road Home, won the 2021 Teleplay Grand Jury Prize at the Richmond International Film Festival and placed as a semifinalist in the 2020 Austin Film Festival’s one-hour TV competition. Clint recently a ached a showrunner to his latest supernatural procedural.

Raven’s One is a grounded sci-fi action drama that follows Joseph Gri th, a mild-mannered computer programmer who has his world turned upside down when he learns the life he’s been living is not what it seems. Joseph discovers he’s one of five clones created by renowned scientist Dr. Emmi Raven, who’s now recalling Joseph and the others to destroy them to extend his life.

Rebecca is a screenwriter and graduate of the CFC Bell Media Prime Time TV Program. She was story editor on Anthony Q. Farrell’s comedy Shelved, and has worked as story coordinator in production and development. She is the recipient of the Corus Writer’s Apprentice Program and the Magee TV Diverse Screenwriters Mentorship Award. She loves exploring stories about queer characters, superheroes without capes, the complexities of mother-daughter relationships, and disconnection from community.

A er Wiccans outlaw the creation of new vampires, Daria, a near century-old vampire, must turn her human lover, Gwen, in secret. But the transformation ritual goes awry, ripping apart their happily ever a er. With guilt in her un-beating heart and vengeance on the brain, Daria amasses a team of the undead to overthrow the Wiccans.

Soon they discover that hatred of vampires runs deep in the supernatural world and that their ba le is just beginning

Jasmine Chen, a winemaker with tycoon aspirations, struggles to save her estate a er her husband’s death. Hoping to turn things around, Jasmine steals a rare and valuable grouse, which draws interest from the mob. When the crime is traced back to Jasmine, she bargains for her life, o ering the mob a unique opportunity: rather than sell cocaine, Jasmine pitches a safer, more profitable venture through agriculture, helping to create Canada’s most dangerous wine empire.

Svjetlana Jaklenec is an alumna of The Norman Jewison Film Program Directors’ Lab and The Bell Media Prime Time Program at the Canadian Film Centre. Her short films have screened at international festivals and garnered multiple awards and she has received development grants for her feature screenplays from Telefilm Canada, Corus Entertainment and the Harold Greenberg Fund. Svjetlana participated in the Netflix Ban Diversity of Voices Fellowship, in Sundance Collab TV Writing Lab and was awarded Switzerland’s Dremago-Ru eux Writing Residency. In addition to wearing being a writer-director, Svjetlana has extensive experience in film and TV set decoration and production design.
