ANSWERING THE CALL

Jeramy Martin’s Journey to Emergency Medicine

After serving as a combat medic in the US Army, Jeramy was drawn to emergency medicine. A defining moment came when he rescued an unconscious driver from a ditch, initiating CPR until the ambulance arrived. Inspired by the EMS team’s actions, Jeramy realized his natural calling lay in emergency medical response, distinct from his military service.

Days later, the rescued driver’s gratitude reinforced Jeramy’s sense of purpose. Encouraged by the man’s support, Jeramy decided to return to the medical field. Sharing his experience with a colleague led him to John Popella, who connected him with Cape Fear Community College’s EMT program.

Enrolling eagerly, Jeramy found the program intense but rewarding. Clinical rotations provided hands-on experience, preparing him thoroughly for his role. Popella fulfilled his promise, arranging an interview for Jeramy at VitaLink upon graduation.

Now working for VitaLink, Jeramy mentors CFCC EMT students, impressed by their preparation and the program’s quality. He encourages anyone considering EMS training to choose CFCC, confident in his decision to pursue this fulfilling career path.
