CFCC’s Academic and Career Readiness Department can help you meet your goals!

Classes are offered at all CFCC campuses and at off-campus locations throughout New Hanover and Pender counties, as well as online.

All high school equivalency, adult high school and English as a Second Language classes are free!

ADULT HIGH SCHOOL

(910) 362-7348 or (910) 362-7290 This is a traditional evening and online high school program that meets at the downtown and Burgaw campuses.

Students complete the 22 credits required for a North Carolina high school diploma. Credit may be awarded for courses completed at the student’s original high school. Registration and orientation sessions are held twice a month at the Wilmington campus.

Classes operate year round.

Required credits: 4 English credits, 4 Math credits, 4 Social Studies credits (including US History 1 and 2), 3 Science credits, 6 electives, 1 Health and PE credit.

GED® TEST PREP CLASSES (910) 362-7182

We offer a variety of traditional and online courses to help prepare students to take the official GED® Test.

These classes are offered morning, afternoon, and evening at all CFCC 4

campuses and at off-campus locations.

Test prep is taught in the four subject areas: math, reasoning through language arts, social studies, and science. Eligible students attending classes receive the GED® Ready test for free (a $24 value).

Scholarships are available for eligible students for the official GED® Test ($20-$80 depending on the award).

Registration and orientation sessions are held twice a month at the Wilmington campus.

Improving your English language skills can help you get a better job, participate more in your community, finish high school, or earn a college degree. ESL classes are offered at the Wilmington, Burgaw, Castle Hayne, and Surf City campuses and at off-campus locations.

The Essentials Program offers free Academic and Career Readiness classes to those who function academically at or below the 8th grade level and who wish to improve their reading, writing, math, and computer literacy skills. Our two year program allows students the chance to enroll in multiple career pathways. Career pathways classes serve to introduce potential career opportunities and earn students a Continuing Education certificate upon completion. Pathway classes have fees associated.

Career Readiness classes will help you search for a job and prepare for the interview. Classes are offered at all CFCC campus locations and at off campus locations, morning, afternoon, evening, and online. CFCC partners with local employers to ensure that students are prepared for interviews and are aware of the needs of local businesses and employers.

Classes are fee-waived for unemployed, underemployed, and those who have received notification of a pending layoff.

This course is designed to provide employability skills training and career exploration for the role of 911 Telecommunicator within the Emergency Management and 911 Communication department in New Hanover County Government. Students will receive training in emergency dispatcher roles, 911 example calls, HIPAA information, terminology and basic listening for understanding lessons.

CFCC offers classes designed to help you learn safe driving strategies to reduce your risk of citations and motor vehicle crashes. Courses are offered multiple times each month. Please call for upcoming class dates and registration information.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING - EIGHT HOUR COURSE

This course is used extensively for court referrals, as a diversion program for drivers with excessive violations, and to retrain drivers with poor driving records.

This course addresses the attitudes of drivers so participants can see that their choices have financial, legal, and personal consequences.

This course concludes the theory portion of the barbering program and builds on the basic barbering concepts and practicums introduced in Barber I and II. Topics include anatomy and physiology, chemistry, electricity and light therapy, finger waving, men’s hair, air waving and curling techniques. The applications portion provides a concentrated focus on live models in a barber shop setting.

EMS training prepares the student to perform patient care in a prehospital setting. This course is designed to train an individual to become an entry-level Emergency Medical Technician. The course teaches patient assessment and basic life support techniques such as airway management and CPR, hemorrhage control, oxygen administration, shock, bandaging and splinting, management of trauma and medical patients, child birthing and transfer of patients to medical facilities. This course is designed for those individuals who are new to the fire alarm industry and will focus on fundamentals. Students will learn basic electrical theory and understand resistance, voltage, and current.
