A charitable IRA rollover, also known as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), is a tax-free way to transfer up to $105,000 each year from an IRA to charitable organizations of your choice This special provision allows donors who are at least 705 years old to exclude the transfer from their taxable income and count it toward their required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year Many individuals have used this option to create or add to charitable funds at the Community Foundation. We award $1 - 2 million annually in grants to our nonprofit community through our Community Grants Program, Youth Philanthropy Council Programs, and DonorDirected Grants
Scholarships Awards
We welcome applications from high school seniors, as well as adults seeking to continue their education We award over $200,000 annually in scholarship support.
Through our Dawbarn Education Awards and our Smyth Education Awards, we distribute $110,000 in cash each year to impactful educators.

What is a Community Foundation?
Community foundations are tax-exempt charities that improve regional quality of life by managing long-term funds from individuals and organizations They invest these funds and distribute grants, scholarships, and awards annually They strengthen civil society by enhancing local assets, fostering a culture of giving, and building networks to address social problems.
The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge serves Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta, Highland, and Nelson counties It was incorporated in 1992 and is one of about 900 community foundations in the United States.
