LINGAYEN, May 31, 2013 – With the help of the amazing Powerbook, KFCs join the adventure of John, Mary and Liz as they watched the story of God’s non-stop love – from Adam and Eve until Mama Mary’s ‘yes’.

Liz, Mary and John saw how Adam and Eve disobeyed God, but despite this, God could not stop caring for them.

God gave them something to cover themselves with and food so that they could continue to live.

“That’s the story of how sin came into the world…It’s a good thing that God didn’t just abandon them after they sinned. Some people would, but God is not just some person,” their dad explained to them.

The flipping pages of the Powerbook brought Liz, Mary, John and their dad to the story of Mary and how she trusted in God by saying yes to His plan. “[Mama Mary] believes that God loves her and trusts that God’s power will work through her,” their dad told them.

John, Liz and Mary really saw how much God loves every one of us and this made Mary shout out loud, “I love you, Lord. I love you, Jesus.

I love you, Mama Mary!”

The Power book, the Holy Bible is really a book “that is just waiting for its pages to be read, for its power to be unleashed.”

If KFCs can learn something it is that the Bible “holds the answers to all the secrets of life.”

Teaching your kid how to pray might seem like a no-brainer decision, what you don’t realize is that it might well be the single most important leadership training he will ever get.

“When they pray, they remember the one who created them – ‘yung nag bless ng life nila (the One who blesses their life)… Someone is greater up there and I’m accountable to Him and He’s accountable for me. He will take care of me,” said CFC - Kids for Christ International Coordinator Nic Escalona in an interview this morning.

Breeding accountable leaders When kids grow up they take to heart this sense of accountability as leaders – something which is easy to forget because of the common temptations of power and self-interest, he explained.

“He will remember he is accountable to others [as a leader]. He will not easily compromise himself, ‘yung principles niya,‘yung family niya,” Escalona, who was a KFC member himself back in 1993, added.

Now married with two daughters, Escalona said kids who join KFC receive “strength or courage [that] sooner or later in life, they will need.”

“Whatever they learn at this stage they will carry with them in life dahil bata sila (because they are kids),” he added, stressing how crucial the early years are as a time to build personal foundations.

The impact of faith How important faith is is apparently backed up by science.

According to a 2007 study on adolescent risk behaviour and religion by Sinha, Gelles and Cnaan, young people who came from religious backgrounds had reduced risk behaviors like smoking, alcohol use, truancy, sexual activity, marijuana use, and depression.

Rudy Regencia, a sector KFC coordinator of an area that covers the cities of San Juan and Mandaluyong attests to a gradual and concrete change in children after they join the ministry. “[Mayroong] hindi nakikinig tapos nang tumagal nang tumagal, nagkaroon din ng gradual na pagbabago hanggang sa ngayon na sila na ang nag-lelead (There were those who would not even listen, but after some time, there came about a gradual change until they themselves were the ones leading),” Regencia added.

There are 3 ways to obey Jesus through the Holy Mass, according to a priest.

“Importanteng bilin ni Hesus, magdasal lalo na sa Santa Misa (An important request of Jesus was for us to remember Him during the Holy Mass),” said Fr. Nicasio Villamil.

According to Fr. Villamil, who is the school director of St. Columban’s College in Lingayen, the following are top ways how Kids for Christ should behave during mass: 1.) talk to Jesus [manalingin Sa Diyos] 2.) listen to God’s Word [makinig sa Salita ng Diyos] 3.) don’t use your cell phone [huwag gumamit ng cell phone] According to Fr. Villamil, who did an impromptu interview of two KFCs during his homily, these are sure fire ways to follow Jesus.

“Kung gusto nating buhay si Hesus sa puso natin, sundin natin ang utos Niya,” he explained.

The Holy Mass opened the Luzon Kids’ Village (LKV) today with an estimated 2,500 kids, some coming from as far as Palawan.

The LKV is ongoing at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, Lingayen and will end on June 2 (Sunday). [Nirva’ana Ella Delacruz]

1,500 hosts were used during the Holy Mass for day 1 of the LKV. YFC Australia members dubbed the audio track of the Island Kids’ Village play, which featured Liz, John and Mary.

81 parents came with their kids to the LKV. Palawan is farthest province that sent delegates to the LKV this year.
