IKV 2014 KidZine Day 1

This Weekend is all About LOVE! All roads led to Dasmariñas City, Cavite for the 17th International Kids Village of the CFC Kids for Christ. The IKV, which is happening beginning today, until Sunday, May 4th, has more than 4,000 delegates from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

What should we expect from this weekend?

Fun, Faith Freedom & Friendship at the IKV To open the IKV, Lloyd Polinar, fulltime pastoral worker for Kids for Christ, led the Kids Praise with the Kids Praise Dancers. Afterwards, Ian Maraguinot led the athletes to an oath of sportsmanship prior to the competitions.

The Ugnayan La Salle was literally on fire with excitement as each area rooted for their respective bets for the various creative and sports competitions.

Aside from the competitions, delegates of the IKV are in for a great experience, especially with the sessions. The creative skit, which is inspired by the IKV theme “I am a beloved child of God” (John 19:26-27), will revolve around each individual being God’s most cherished child. (Shan Echon)

Hindi Lang Pampamilya, Pang-isports Pa! As we say in Filipino, “Hindi lang pampamilya, pang-isports pa!” And the KFC IKV is exactly that. Despite the sweltering heat, parents and kids alike enjoyed playing in the various sports competitions.

The kids showed their competitive side, giving their best to win the victory.

In every competition there is winner and loser. But in this IKV, one can hardly recognize who won and who didn’t! The kids who lost took their fate with a smile on their faces followed with a very friendly “Hey, congratulations!” None of them took their K.O.s badly—a heartwarming reminder for every one not to sweat the small stuff, as God is always there to help each one carry burdens and face failures.

Showcasing Young Creative Minds Rock’n Beat, Step by Step, Glee Showdown... these are just some of the titles of the first set of creative competitions which took place today at the KFC IKV in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

From the competition titles alone, one could imagine how the creativity of each area was brought out in the hope to outdo the others. And the representatives of the provinces, Manila sectors and countries did not disappoint their audience. (Gatz Macaso) The creative competitions were divided into 3 segments.

How does God show love? “‘I am a beloved child of God.’ That is the truth that we are celebrating in this IKV.” This was what Bishop Reynaldo G. Evangelista said as he began his homily during the Mass on Day 1 of the IKV. Bishop Evangelista is the Bishop of the Diocese of Imus.

“God loves us so much, that He sustains us. This is the gift of God to each one of us. And so, we must make ourselves worthy always of being children of God,” he added.

How does God show love to each person? By giving all individuals a family, friends and the Church. (Diana Jean Delagon)

MY BELOVED FAMILY

The evening screamed, “I am a beloved child of God. You make all things oh, so wonderful!” Oozing with the great love of God, the 17th International Kids Village first zeroes in on what seems to be one of the most important aspects of a child’s development—the family. The 1st Session, titled My Beloved Family, puts God’s love and faith into view, moving young kids to take a look into the realities of today’s family.

Energetic. Entertaining. Enriching Told through the dynamics of a play, the session starts by introducing John Paul or “JP” who, in turn, took the young participants into a deeper look and reflection on their own families.

The family on spotlight seemed to be the “perfect family”— one that showed love and loyalty to each other. It was a family that had everything they ever wanted—status, a comfortable lifestyle, and a great bond with each other.

However, KFC bravely reminds that not all families live on the bright side constantly. Most of the time, the imperfections of family members tend to come out in the midst of crisis and difficulty. Thus was the case for the family in the story.

Slowly, sins like pride, disobedience, disrespect, among others, came out, leading each one to hurt the other.

The reality of families today has grown sadder than expected. The families are under the mercy of busy schedules, unmet needs, and worldly distractions.

Sadness then shifts into hope as PJ asks about the Holy Family. Undeniably, the presence of God in families moves each member to have faith and trust in God. God’s presence serves as a constant reminder that He has a perfect plan for families. The need for God moves each family member to reconcile with each other.

The Holy Family leaves both a lesson and a reminder: 1) Grow together in our love for and faith in God; and 2) Grow together in love for each other.

The story ends in hope and love, with children being God’s gifts to our parents, a living sign of their unity. To keep this unity strong, and relationships deep, the session reminds the delegates about love for God, faith in God, and love for one another. Truly, God makes all things wonderful!
