President’s REFLECTION

As I write this final message to you as President, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary community that makes FAEA what it is. The “good work” we do together has never been limited to what happens in our classrooms, museums, or offices, although that work is powerful. It also lives in the ways we nourish our own artistic spirits, push ourselves to grow, and choose to celebrate one another. Whether it’s through our bi-monthly teacher spotlights, our awards program, or the countless informal moments of encouragement you offer each other, you keep this organization vibrant and deeply human.

FAEA has always been, at its core, a professional service organization—much like teaching itself. It asks us to give, but it also gives back when we stay connected, stay curious, and stay committed to our craft. Serving as your president has been an honor I carry with immense gratitude. This role has stretched me, grounded me, and allowed me to grow in ways that I hope have benefited the organization we all care about. Thank you for trusting me, challenging me, and standing with me.

I also want to reiterate an important update in our community. As many of you heard during conference and in our latest e-blast, Dr. Kathleen Sanz has announced her upcoming retirement as Center for Fine Arts Education's executive director in March 2026. Across our entire membership, there is immense respect for the depth and reach of her service. Dr. Sanz has shaped the landscape of arts education in Florida with remarkable consistency and care.

FAEA stands on solid ground because of her steady vision over many years. We are grateful for her work, her wisdom, and her heart.

The Center for Fine Arts Education (CFAE) Board and the appointed search committee are already moving forward with the transition process. Using a structured plan, an outside consultant, and a committee that represents the key operational areas of of CFAE (including an FAEA representative), we are committed to identifying the right leader to continue this partnership with FAEA. Thanks to the strong framework Dr. Sanz has built, this role has drawn exceptional applicants.

As always, please continue to keep the lines of communication open. Reach out to me and to the new board as we are here for you. Your voice helps shape the direction of our collective work, and it strengthens the bonds that make FAEA the professional home it is for so many.

And finally, I ask that you show up for the next chapter of this association with the same generosity and energy you have shown me. Christy Garton has begun her presidency this month, and I know she will lead with clarity, compassion, and conviction. Let’s lift her up the way you have lifted me.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS/ADVOCACY Welcome to the second semester of this school year. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the honor of serving as the FAEA Board Consultant for the past fifteen years. It has been a pleasure to serve the association to help move FAEA’s visual arts efforts forward in Florida for students and teachers.

Legislators and Committees The Florida Art Education Association has key areas of its strategic plan to promote art education through professional learning, service, advancement of knowledge, and leadership. A significant area of focus is that of advocacy. Advocacy is crucial for advancing visual arts education, which involves fostering strong relationships with decision-makers.

The leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives is key to legislation moving forward through the Bill process. It’s essential to know your legislators and the leaders.

Advocacy Committee The FAEA Advocacy Committee participated in an annual meeting alongside the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA), the Florida School Music Association (FSMA), and lobbyists. There is an ongoing dialogue with our lobbyist to discuss legislation and develop a legislative platform for arts education. Once the Platform is finalized, it will be posted on the FAEA website.

2026 Legislative Session The 2026 Legislative Session begins on January 13, 2026 with the regular session scheduled to end on March 13, 2026. We will continue to keep you updated through the website and member emails about legislation that may impact fine arts specifically and education generally.

Whether a public, public charter, private, or home school, we can help to influence the decisions for our programs. In the coming months, schools and school districts will be determining their budgets for the 2026-2027 school year, and funding decisions will be made locally. You must communicate the needs of your program to your school administrators, the school board, and district administrators.

The Florida Art Education Association is working at the state level to advocate for visual arts education in our schools through legislation. Become engaged with your state association.

Critical actions for FAEA members • Stay informed.

• Read eblasts from the FAEA office and plan to participate in webinars.

• Visit and/or call your legislators. Following the visit, let us know of any issues or concerns.

Advocacy is crucial to our efforts to provide students and teachers with the necessary resources for the visual arts. BE THAT ADVOCATE! Remember the Arts are Essential for all Florida students. Have a wonderful second semester.

CANVAS Dear Members of the Florida Art Education Association, I am writing to you today with immense gratitude and excitement as I step into the role of President of the Florida Art Education Association (FAEA), following in the incredible footsteps of Latonya Hicks. It is such an honor to serve this vibrant community of educators, artists, and advocates whom I have long admired.

For those of you I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Christy Garton. My journey in art education has been a deeply rewarding 15+ year adventure in Orange County Public Schools (OCPS), where I’ve served in several key roles: Visual Art Teacher, K-12 Visual Arts Resource Teacher, K-12 Visual Arts Program Specialist, and now as the Senior Administrator of Visual and Performing Arts. In this new role, I lead a team supporting 800 arts educators. My work has focused on developing innovative programs, including developing a one-of-a-kind arts and entertainment school in Orlando, collaborating with community partners, providing curricular support, and mentoring teachers. I am a passionate servant leader, having served on boards for FAEA, NAEA, and Orange County's LAEA, and I was honored to be named the FAEA Supervisor of the Year in 2019.

My leadership philosophy is built on a foundation of collaboration, shared purpose, and strong relationships. As a servant leader, my goal is to empower our community by fostering an environment of trust, respect, and mutual support. I believe in a distributive leadership model that gives our members a genuine voice, respects their expertise, and develops their capacity as leaders, educators, and artists. Ultimately, I believe the success and well-being of our members should guide every decision we make.

My vision for FAEA is one of continued growth, connection, and strength. I plan to focus on: • Strengthening Our Voice: Advocating at the local, state, and national levels to ensure art education is recognized and supported as an essential component of every student’s education.

• Championing Equitable Access: Working to ensure every student in Florida has equitable access to a high-quality visual arts education.

• Meeting the Needs of All Members: Working to provide a place of genuine support for educators at every stage of their career and from every part of our state, with professional learning that is relevant, accessible, and inspiring.

• Building Leadership Capacity: Creating pathways and fostering leadership opportunities within our association to empower our members and build a strong, dynamic future for FAEA. • Ensuring Organizational Strength: Committing to fiscal responsibility and transparency to ensure FAEA remains a fiscally sound and sustainable organization that can serve its members for years to come.

• Building Community and Creative Partnerships: Fostering an inclusive and engaged network, and building creative and innovative partnerships to expand the reach and impact of arts education for this generation and the next.

Stephanie Scannapieco Seabreeze Elementary Duval County I hope your holiday season was restful and rejuvenating.

As we enter the second half of the school year, art show season is almost upon us. I’m sure you are already preparing work for school, district, and local art shows. Consider snapping pictures of that work to submit to the Florida Student Art Assessment. The deadline for those submissions is quickly approaching on February 13th. Please keep in mind that you do need parental consent for those submissions so please plan accordingly. Go to FAEA.org for more details. Looking ahead to March, promote your program and the awesome work your students are doing during for Youth Art Month.

Even though I feel like the conference was just yesterday, our professional development committee is already hard at work planning our next conference. I urge you to think of something you’d be willing and excited to present and submit a proposal.

I want to thank each of you for allowing me to represent you on the board of directors for FAEA. The last two years have been an awesome experience. I loved working with the board, committees, CFAE, and our members. One of the biggest tasks I had on this board was serving as the Social Media Committee Chair. I hope that you’ve noticed a significant increase in the content that we’ve created and connected with FAEA in that way. (If you haven’t, go follow FAEA now!) I can’t give CFAE’s staff and my social media committee enough credit.

I’m so very grateful for all the hard work they put in. Serving as the Elementary Division Director was truly an honor.

I want to introduce our new Elementary Division Director, Lindsay Thibault from Orange County. I look forward to her leadership and propelling our division in new and exciting ways!

A Few Important Reminders

• Florida Student Art Assessment Submissions: Don’t forget to submit your student artwork for the Florida Student Art Assessment by February 13th. This is such a great opportunity to showcase the incredible talent in your classrooms. Be sure to get those submissions in!

Zach brings a wealth of knowledge in arts education and an impressive background in Exceptional Student Education (ESE). We are so fortunate to have him join the team, and I’m confident he’ll be an invaluable asset to all of us.

It has been such an honor serving as your division director over the past two years. I’ve loved meeting so many talented artists and passionate educators along the way. As I transition into my new role as Secretary of the Board for the next term, I’m excited for the next chapter and all the possibilities ahead.

Division Director Jacquelene Lieberman Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Broward County A Final Farewell: Reflections and Renewed Inspiration As I conclude my term as High School Division Director for FAEA, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve and collaborate with such inspiring art educators across our state. Working alongside passionate teachers and colleagues on the FAEA Board has been an incredible experience that strengthened my belief in the power of art education to shape confident, creative thinkers.

As we begin a new year, I encourage you to continue sharing your students’ talent through the Florida Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition. This program celebrates student achievement and provides valuable feedback for artistic growth. Submissions are due February 13, so now is the perfect time to prepare those entries!

I also invite you to share your expertise by submitting a conference session proposal for the 2026 FAEA Annual Conference. Your innovative ideas can inspire and elevate others in our field. Session proposals will be accepted February 1 — May 1.

In March, let’s celebrate Youth Art Month by showcasing student artwork and advocating for the importance of creativity in our schools and communities. Youth Art Month is a wonderful opportunity to advocate for the arts and remind our schools and communities just how vital visual art education truly is.

As we look ahead to springtime, I encourage you to focus on renewal and embrace creativity in both your professional classroom practices and your own personal journey. Take time to make art for yourself, experiment with new ideas, and share your successes with your peers. Remember that your passion fuels your students’ imagination.

I want to introduce our incoming High School Division Director, Britt Feingold, from Palm Beach County. Britt brings a wealth of knowledge and will aptly lead our division!

Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve as your High School Division Director. I am continually inspired by your dedication and resilience. The future of art education in Florida is bright, and I am confident that together, we will continue to nurture and empower the young artists who will shape tomorrow’s world.

Museums & Cultural Organizations Division Director

Dulcie Hause Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Duval County As my term as Division Director comes to a close, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible work and collaboration that has taken place over the past two years. Together, we have strengthened our network of cultural organization professionals across Florida, creating spaces for meaningful dialogue, inspiration, and professional growth. From our engaging quarterly virtual chats to our in-person gatherings at the FAEA Conference, it has been a joy to witness how museum educators continue to innovate, connect, and support one another in advancing arts education in their communities.

It has been an honor to serve this division and to highlight the important role that museums and cultural organizations play in shaping creative learning experiences for all ages. I am thrilled to welcome Sumaya Ayad from The Dalí Museum as our incoming Division Director. Sumaya’s passion for museum education, community engagement, and creative collaboration will continue to propel this division forward. I know she will bring fresh ideas and a vibrant energy to our work together.

As we look toward the spring months, I encourage everyone to take time for self-care and reflection. Visit a gallery that inspires you, sketch in the garden, or simply pause to celebrate the impact you make each day through your work. Thank you for your dedication to the arts, your generosity of spirit, and your continued support of one another.

Division Updates Supervision/Administration Division Director

Dr. Laurie Hoppock Duval County Public Schools Duval County As we begin 2026, it’s time to enter works for the multitude of exhibition opportunities, celebrate Art in our Schools Month, and make preparations to connect graduating seniors with the Florida Seal of Fine Arts!

FAEA’s Florida Student Art Assessment submission window is open now through February 13th. Encourage participation in this statewide exhibition opportunity to take part in a professionally adjudicated event, gain feedback about student work, and to be a part of the celebration of works being created by students around the state. For your high school art students, participation in this program satisfies one of the requirements to earn the Florida Seal of Fine Arts. Also note that because this is a fully virtual exhibition opportunity, students can enter the same work in other exhibition opportunities such as Scholastics, US Congressional Art Exhibition, or your local district exhibition.

March is Art in Our Schools Month. What will you do to celebrate this designated month? You may think about having your city council or school board submit a proclamation, plan a special school community event, or create a social media blitz with input from your students or fellow art teachers! Now more than ever, it’s vital to our visual art programs that we are visible sharing the work you and your students do each day and celebrating our successes with our wider community!

Have you implemented the Florida Seal of Fine Arts process in your district yet? It’s year two of this state level honor; an honor that goes on students’ transcripts and diplomas. Coordinate with your district’s counseling team and fine arts team to ensure you have a plan to roll this program out, have an application process ready along with a communication protocol for notifying qualifying students and their educators about updates, distribution of materials, and much more! Lastly, I want to introduce our incoming Supervision/Administration Division Director, Donna Haynes. After a tie in the October elections, we had a runoff which made for some excitement.

Donna is from Broward County and has been an active FAEA member for many years. I look forward to her leadership! I appreciate your support over the last two years; it was amazing!

As I reflect on the past year and think about the new year that is upon us, I am reminded of how grateful I am for all of the many thoughtful people that I have met through FAEA. With the same sense of appreciation, I am very pleased to congratulate Martin Murphy as the new Higher Education Division Director! Martin is the Department Head of Virtual Reality Development and Game Art at the Ringling College of Art and Design. I am excited that Martin will lead and elevate our division to new heights! When I can sneak away from my office, I keep myself busy with ceramics and lots of crochet projects, big and small.

The Florida Art Education Association continues to provide valuable opportunities for educators and students alike, and this is an ideal time to get involved.

The Florida Student Art Assessment (FSAA) is now open for submissions. This statewide program offers students a chance to be recognized for their artistic excellence while receiving valuable feedback aligned with state standards. The submission deadline is February 13th, so gather and submit your students’ strongest work to celebrate their creativity and achievement.

Art educators are also encouraged to share their expertise by submitting conference session proposals between February 1 - May 1 for next year's FAEA Conference. Presenting is an excellent way to exchange ideas, inspire colleagues, and contribute to the growth of art education throughout Florida.

Looking ahead, March marks Youth Art Month (YAM), a statewide celebration of the visual arts. Consider hosting a school or community art exhibit, collaborating with local organizations, or sharing student artwork in public spaces to highlight the importance of art in every child’s education.

As the spring semester progresses, may this season inspire creativity, collaboration, and renewed enthusiasm in every art room. Together, we continue to strengthen the voice of art education across our state.

Membership is open to all art teachers, art supervisors, arts administrators, cultural professionals, university professors and students, those who are retired from the profession, and anyone passionate about our goals.

I want to take this opportunity to give a huge THANK YOU to all of our fabulous Retired Art Teachers (RATS). Thanks to Ruthie Platt for making the RATs Social event AWESOME! I had so much help! Thank you Bonnie Bernau for your leadership and all our lovely RATs! I sure hope to see all of you again next year and invite others you know to come. We need your wisdom, support, and ideas. You show up and support those of us that are still in the trenches. I loved every second of being your Retiree Representative. I will continue to help support the initiatives of FAEA and enjoy the friendships we have built together.

The “Big Give” and “RATs Speed Dating BATs” was again successful and our new members of the profession are our future. Thank you for supporting these initiatives. There will be many more ways to be involved in FAEA and it always feels like a family reunion at our conference.

How do you thank and celebrate someone whose work has touched every corner of our organization for the past 15 years, even though she has often worked quietly behind the scenes? This note attempts to illustrate the steady hand and guiding voice of Dr. Kathy Sanz from FAEA's management company, the Center for Fine Arts Education.

As CFAE’s Executive Director, Dr. Sanz has played an essential role in keeping FAEA strong, healthy, and moving confidently toward the future.

Even as the majority of FAEA Board of Directors changes every two years, her leadership has ensured that our mission never wavers. Her tireless dedication

and guidance have kept FAEA thriving.

Kathy is known nationally for her passionate advocacy for arts education.

She’s spent her career ensuring that the arts remain a vibrant, essential part of every student’s learning experience.

Her statewide efforts have made a lasting impact on educators, students, and communities across Florida.

Dr. Nicole Crane, one of FAEA’s past presidents, remarked at our recent annual meeting, “Thank you for your vision, your leadership, and your commitment to the arts. While you may be stepping away from the dayto-day work activities, the impact of your efforts will continue to shine at

As we move towards the future, let us first take a purposeful pause to set an intention, rather than a resolution. We can invite change in a mindful, compassionate way by building this intention into our daily practices of cultivating presence, purpose, and possibility.

Mindfulness practice is a research-based practice that is often defined as paying attention to the present moment, without judgement, and with curiosity and openness. Although its roots stem from contemplative traditions, mindfulness is a modern, evidence-informed practice that benefits well-being,

focus, compassion, and resilience. In teaching and artistic contexts, awareness without judgment can be a powerful tool to model for learners and develop in your own creative practice and intention setting.

What energy do you wish to bring into your studio or classroom in the new year?

When we consider our response to this question, imagine an intention that you could embody in your teaching and artmaking. Intentions are qualities, rather than fixed goals. Reflect on what values you wish to manifest, such as patience, curiosity, joy, or balance. Invite an intention that can bring your actions and purpose into alignment, prompting greater clarity when met with challenges.

Some simple ways to integrate mindful intentions and habits into your daily practices might look like: • Begin each class or session with a few conscious, centering breaths. Encourage learners and students to participate.

• Use your time in creative making as an opportunity for reflective, purposeful, grounding. Set creative making dates with yourself to grow this habit that supports well-being.

• Make a work of art that visualizes what an intentional year looks, feels, and sounds like. Focus on texture, color, and visual rhythm. This piece could be a vision board or map for the future, or a work that is continually developed throughout the course of the year. What symbols appear? What insight can be found?

• Inspire colleagues to use mindfulness and purposeful intention setting for self-care and well-being. Find a friend

that can partner with you. Encourage each other to pause, breathe, and find gratitude daily.

Centered in awareness and creativity, purpose and intention, let our year ahead be filled with the possibilities of being fully present, connected, and curious–open to the wonders around us. Let us choose to embody intentional qualities, bringing a renewed sense of peace and gratitude to our important work in this world.

She is currently serving as the Chair for the Caucus on the Spiritual in Art Education, an Interest Group of NAEA. MUSEUM OF ART Located two miles from Silver Springs State Park in Ocala, FL, the College of Central Florida’s Appleton Museum of Art houses over 24,000 artworks.

Founded by businessman Arthur Appleton in 1987, the Appleton Museum of Art's robust educational programming consists of studio art programs, guided tours and visits for schools and groups, outreach programs, opportunities for free and drop-in participation, student art shows, online learning opportunities, and resources for educators. A great match was made in 2004 when the Appleton became affiliated with and governed by the College of Central Florida (CF) to continue its role as an educational and cultural resource.

With one full-time museum educator, plus part-time staff and contracted art teachers, the Appleton Education Department reaches over 35,000 people annually both on- and off-site.

Studio Art Programs Hands-on artmaking workshops deliver year-round educational and creative outlets for adults and children of all skill levels, providing opportunities to learn something new or practice and refine existing skills. Each semester, studio art programs connect to the permanent collection and special exhibitions.

Need-based scholarships are offered to Summer Art Camp K-12 students.

Guided Tours and Visits Staff-led tours make visits to the Appleton more personal and provide information beyond the object labels.

Visual thinking strategies are employed to help enhance critical thinking and visual literacy. Gallery tours alternate with art-making opportunities to offer creative outlets related to the collection and activates the art in new ways. These art-making activities are offered at no additional cost to the admission price of a tour group. For groups of 15 or more, admission for children ages 5-17 is $3, adults $8, and educators are free. Travel reimbursements are available to Marion County Public Schools.

Outreach Programs The Appleton provides free art-making activities to thousands of adults and children at events throughout the region. Education staff regularly teach free classes and other programs to alternative schools and underserved community youth. Since 2020, the museum has delivered over 10,000 free art-supply kits to over 80 schools and nonprofit organizations.

Through CF's partnership with the United Way of Marion County, the Museum has formed a long-term relationship with two elementary schools - College Park and East Marion (EME).

Located in the Ocala National Forest, just a few miles from the museum, EME and the Appleton established a unique opportunity to lead special activities in this rural area. Throughout the 20242025 school year, Appleton staff worked

closely with EME administrators to curate programming tailored to the needs of their students and families. One of the year’s standout moments was Winter Arts Night at the museum – a lively and creative evening welcoming students, their families, and school staff for unforgettable experiences. Attendees enjoyed a performance by EME’s choir, posed for fun photo ops, made art, and explored the galleries with a family-friendly scavenger hunt. Artwork created by EME second-grade students at a prior workshop was on display in the galleries.

Drop-In Participation Opportunities Opened in 2013, the Daniel M. & Mary B. Kraus Artspace is a colorful makerspace that is open during the museum’s visitor hours. Not just for children, the Artspace offers inspiration and materials to create art, as well as interactive opportunities to learn about specific artworks and artists. A library of child-friendly art books is available as well as a toddler play area that emphasizes tactile learning and creative exploration. Use of the Artspace and all art supplies are free for Appleton members and included with nonmember admission fees.

Student Art Shows Annually, the Appleton presents five exhibitions of student artwork. Across

Arts in the community these shows, opportunities are available to: Marion County public, private and homeschool students; students participating in the Arts4All Florida program; and students who created artwork in Appleton studio art programs. Each exhibition has an open house for students and their families to visit free of charge.

Recently, the Appleton has partnered with Citrus County Public Schools to offer a virtual art exhibit on the museum’s social media platforms highlighting student artworks.

Online Learning Opportunities and Educator Resources All educators with an ID receive free complementary admission year-round to the museum. The Museum also offers digital resources including instructional art-making videos for adults and

children and videos on art from the permanent collection. A collection of teaching posters is available on the Appleton website. These posters provide facts, teaching lessons, and art projects that relate to a specific artwork. A free downloadable museum coloring book is also available on its website. The Appleton partners with educators on scheduling in-person outreach programs to provide or supplement art education and art-making curricula. All resources for educators, including outreach programs, are available free of charge.

Going for the Gold Every Year: Practices and Activities

Even after 30 years of teaching, I still experience that from time to time. I know I have a great lesson plan, but sometimes I stop and think—why am I teaching this?

What do I want my students to learn?

project they’ll enjoy, or do I have a clear goal that aligns with my curriculum?

That’s when backward planning comes to mind. While working on my doctorate, I came across a fabulous book

by Wiggins and McTighe titled Understanding by Design. My first thought was, “Oh no, another book to read,” but to my surprise, it all started to make sense.

The central idea behind UbD is to start with the end goal in mind. What do

you want your students to learn, and how will you assess their understanding? Start backwards—then plan how you’ll meet that goal.

One helpful concept from the book is the acronym GRASPS: Goal, Role, Audience, Situation, Performance, and Standards (Wiggins & McTighe, p. 157).

I’ve used this structure many times and found that it really engages students in their work.

FROM THE FIELD FAEA members share their teaching experiences and successes For example, I once told my students they were going to be designers tasked with impressing a wealthy client who owned an airline. Their job was to design the interior and exterior of the fleet, including the flight attendants’ uniforms. They had to choose one color theory—primary, secondary, analogous, or

monochromatic—and apply it throughout their design. We discussed the color wheel and different color theories, then they began creating. I showed them how designers use swatches or small samples of color, and they had to develop a color scheme, explain their choices, and present their designs to the class. We ended

with a class critique and a secret vote to determine the winning project. The students loved it and were deeply engaged!

William Pinar (2006) notes that “teachers should develop units that create new complexities and raise new questions to deepen student understanding and engagement.” When de-

signing curriculum using backward design—or any method—“essential questions that human beings perennially ask about the world and themselves should be the primary goals of teaching and learning.” (McTighe & Thomas, 2003) Now, shifting gears to another goal I set for myself—several years ago, I decided to become a National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) sponsor. I visited the NAEA website to see what was involved and thought, Hey, that seems doable! So I jumped in. It’s been about seven years now, and although I typically have only about 25 students in NJAHS, we’ve accomplished some wonderful community projects.

sure what direction to take. Should NJAHS be an art club or an art club that helps the community? My first group of students wanted to make a difference, so we began brainstorming ways to do that. About six years ago, we launched our Empty Bowls Campaign. My principal loved the idea and asked if the art teachers could host pottery days for the staff. Of course, we agreed! Every year since, staff members come to the art room during planning periods or after school to make bowls. Some donate their bowls to be sold at the event, while others glaze and keep them. Participation has grown each year, and it’s become something everyone looks forward to.

bowls for the sale. At our Empty Bowls event, we invite the school's dance troupe and choir to perform. Anyone who attends and purchases a bowl enjoys generously donated food from local restaurants - ziti, pizza, and garlic rolls—which makes it a true community effort.

In October, we host Socktober. Students create posters and videos for morning announcements to promote the event—collecting new socks for the local homeless community. Over the past three years, we’ve gathered more than 3,000 pairs of socks!

In November, students make holiday cards for a local veterans’ nursing home. In February, we run a chocolate bar drive and create a Valentine’s Day

For Youth Art Month in March, the students help with our annual art show. They dress up as famous artists and serve as docents around the school. Our show features installations in classrooms, a blacklight room, a photo-op center, and a gallery in the cafeteria, with artwork from all grades—since our school serves Kindergarten through eighth grade.

This year, we’re finishing our “Fantasy” Coloring Book project, which will be printed and donated—with new packs of crayons— to our county’s children’s hospital. Students have been working hard creating illustrations of fairies, dragons, princesses, and other fantasy characters.

We’re always brainstorming new ways to connect our students’ art with the community. For 2026, we are planning an art auction are an art auction at a local coffee shop and displaying student art in local businesses.
