The Communication and Media Program of CEU Manila partnered with Sapa Elementary School in Sto. Tomas, Pampanga to conduct a series of capacity building activities.

Student leaders visited the public elementary school last June 9, 2025 to conduct training needs analysisduringtheBrigadaEskwela.

Mr. Rodolfo Ordonio II, SchoolPrincipal,expressedeagerness tocollaboratewithCEU.“Iknowthat CEUisaforcetoreckonwithinterms ofscienceandtechnologyandIwant their expertise to be experienced by our students especially that we frequentlyjoincompetitions.”

The initial visit happened weeks after the Communication and Mediaprogramrenewed partnership

with the Department of Science and Technology-ScienceandTechnology Information Institute that aims to popularize science to younger students.

Asidefromsciencetopics,the student leaders gave a primer on campus journalism as well as distributed learning materials for the students..

“Moving forward, our group willcontinuewithworkshopsthatare tailored based on the result of the training needs analysis that we conducted in June,” Christ Jereco Nuguid said. The President of the Communication and Media Society added that the training will revolve aroundappreciationofsciencetopics, campus journalism, and content creation.

Inkeepingwiththecentennial celebrationoftheCommunicationand Media program, a YouTube channel waslaunchedinApril2025.

Tagged as Cup of Jo-Se, the YouTube channel features conversations with thought leaders from media, theatre, education and science.

“The podcast is one of the commitment of the Comm&Media program to DOST-STII,” said Prof. Jose Cris Sotto. The Program Head addedthatthechannelaimstohavea safespacewhereimportanttopicsand casualdiscussionscanbeperformed.

The latest series tackles the learningcrisisinthePhilippineswith the help of scientists from the Philippine Institute for Development Studies

Thefirstepisodeairedduring the Lenten break, featuring veteran newsman Jayjay Orense. The two-part episode served as an invitation for students and professionals to contemplate on their respectivejourney.

The YouTube channel also featuresveteranjournalistMs.Cheche Lazaro;andMr.MelvinLee,President ofthePhilippineEducationalTheater Association(PETA).

Prominent names in the field of media graced the centennial celebrationoftheCommunicationand MediaprogramofCEUManila,under the School of Education-Liberal Arts-Music-SocialWork.

The lecture series started in August 2024 with Cannes Film Festival awardee Director Brillante Mendoza who gave a film appreciation workshop to senior high school and college students in CEU and nearby universities. This workshop was conducted under the Sinag Maynila, a local film festival organizedbySolarEntertainment.

Powerhouse journalists Ms. Cheryl Cosim, multi-awarded journalist Mr. Atom Araullo, and seasoned broadcasters Ms. Luchi Cruz-Valdes and Ms. Cheche Lazaro conductedlectures.

Lazaro emphasized that Filipinos are resilient beings who are capable of making change. The grandchild of World War II hero General Vicente Lim and third CEU President Pilar Hidalgo Lim claims that the issues of today repeat themselvesbutnevergetresolved. “I feelbadforthecountrybut[Iremain] proudtobeFilipino.”

It was also during one of the lecture series that the COMMunity witnessed a sad reality facing Philippine cinema. This was when film restoration expert Mr. Leo Katigbak shared to the group that ABSCBN is no longer going to continueitsfilmrestorationadvocacy underSagipPelikula.

Known personalities in the creatives industry also gave a career orientation to the students. These include Vince Uy, James Mayo, Leo Conde,andJasonTy.
