All bidding will be handled through the GiveSmart platform and you’ll be able to bid from your smartphone, tablet or computer. Be sure to bid high and bid often!

Our production team is completing work on our latest documentary about Dayton artist, activist and educator, Bing Davis. Reach High and Reach Back: Willis “Bing” Davis will premiere next month on ThinkTV and CET.

This month we welcome Rick Steves to Cincinnati where he will share the stage with the Cincinnati Pops for an exciting tour of Europe. We will be taping this performance and offering the resulting film for national distribution. Broadcast Premiere on September 19

The broadcast portion of Brick by Brick: Solutions for a Thriving Community, our regional community affairs program, launches this September! We’ll air a 30-minute episode of the series once a month on CET and ThinkTV16, starting Thursday, September 19, at 9pm. Each episode will explore solutions to complex problems in our community. The Brick by Brick team continues to focus on the housing crisis. The first broadcast episode explores how predictive data may help prevent eviction and homelessness by looking for factors that can put individuals at a higher risk and then creating opportunities to intervene before it happens.CETconnect.org/brick-bybrick or thinktv.org/brick-by-brick.

The Legacy of Drue Lehmann

Drue Lehmann lived by the lyricist’s words that “love isn’t love ‘til it’s given away.” Professor Lehmann was a speech-language pathologist for nearly half a century, including 33 years at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She connected to her patients with an uncanny empathy.

Even though she embraced Cincinnati as her home and gave back to the city in many ways, Drue was a country girl at heart, growing up on a 1,200-acre family farm. In 2002, Drue succeeded her father as managing general partner of Lehmann Farms and loved every moment of it.

Throughout her life, Drue maintained a large circle of friends, along with her significant other, Jerry Becker, a former Cincinnati Enquirer editorial writer. She lived a rich, full life and was generous to all, including many charities. CET was fortunate to have Drue as an annual supporter - and CET Action Auction bidder - for more than 30 years. Drue loved the PBS drama programming, especially Masterpiece.

In addition to Drue’s decades of generous support to the station during her lifetime, she also included CET in her estate plan to continue the quality programming that she loved watching. If you want to learn more about leaving a part of your legacy to CET, contact Sue Ellen Stuebing at sestuebing@cetconnect.org or (513) 345-6516.

Community Events Around the Neighborhood

With the warm weather of the summer months, our education and engagement teams at CET and ThinkTV have been especially active in connecting with our communities through local events.

In Dayton, we’ve continued our partnership with The Neon to offer activities designed around PBS shows during their Summer Family Film Series. We’ve also worked with the Montgomery County Office of Strategic Initiatives to offer early learning experiences during their Celebrate Fatherhood Event.

In Cincinnati, our established relationships with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses have offered opportunities to share information and activities with families during CSO Block Parties, Live on Linn!, and Pop Up and Play events. New partnerships with OTR Chamber of Commerce, Brotha’s Inc., Wesley Chapel Mission Center, The Community Builders, Inc. and Colerain Council of Neighborhoods have allowed us to reach children and families from OTR, Norwood, Avondale and Colerain. Stay tuned for upcoming events in the area. We hope to see you in your neighborhood soon!

Membership Spotlight: Patti N. from Cincinnati Station News

Patti has been a member of CET since 1984. Patti’s background includes being a teacher, chaplain, retreat director, writer, mother, grandmother, animal and people lover, lover of democracy and lover of life all around!

Patti was introduced to CET many years ago through a neighbor who was one of the station’s founders. At the time, she didn’t understand the impact CET would have or how vital it would become to informing people in our region.

As a teacher with young children of her own, Patti soon learned of public television’s importance in informing and educating young ones while affirming their value in the world. Patti is inspired to be a member because she feels she can trust PBS, and she values the variety of programs available to viewers.

Patti watches PBS programming almost exclusively and has many favorite PBS Programs. Patti is a fan of the Nature series for its ability to keep the glow of creation alive. She enjoys anything with David Brooks, who offers much wisdom, and Rick Steves is one of her all-time favorites as he keeps her traveling while respecting other cultures. Patti has also been inspired

Upstander

Awards

Barbara Kellar, long-time volunteer and host of SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar, recently received the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center’s Upstander Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestigious award was presented by Debra Messing in front of a crowd of more than 800 people at the historic Union Terminal.

Barbara has volunteered in Cincinnati for more than 50 years – dedicated to serving the arts, youth and education. Her involvement with CET began in 1967 when she volunteered in the first Action Auction, and she has served in numerous key roles with the station since. As host of SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar, she guides engaging conversations with Cincinnati’s most influential leaders, encouraging an appreciation for local arts and community.

CET and ThinkTV congratulate Barbara for this exemplary achievement. We are grateful for her dedicated support and contributions to the station and our community.

by Mister Rogers for his modesty, Ken Burns for his humble nature and Henry Louis Gates Jr. for his acceptance of all people.

“Being able to view a program without disruption by commercials allows the flow of learning to continue. Truth is another aspect of broadcasting that CET honors. It is information presented without prejudice, and with a scientific basis. That is appreciated.”
