Dear Member,

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the beautiful fall weather. It’s been a busy time for your public television stations; thank you to all who participated in our CET Action Auction – donors, volunteers, sponsors and bidders – who helped to make this a remarkably successful fundraising event.

ThinkTV and CET’s education departments continue work on professional development training for educators, Ohio Learns 360 workshops, and our podcast, For the Love of EdTech

Our content team created new YouTube shorts from our ongoing series, including Hobby Hunting and The Baking Journal, alongside regular episodes. Visit our YouTube channels to view these shorts and much more.

The development staff is busy preparing for a visit from PBS personality and travel writer, Rick Steves. Mr. Steves will speak in both Dayton and Cincinnati at the end of November. Check out the Station News section of this magazine for more information.

Now let’s talk about programming. A new documentary from Ken Burns premieres on October 16th; American Buffalo tells the 10,000-year-old history of bison in North America. It traces the species’ relationship with Indigenous people and Europeans, its near extinction to fewer than 1,000 and its return from the brink of demise.

The second season of Native America returns this month with four new Native-directed episodes that reveal the beauty and power of today’s Indigenous communities. World on Fire, the World War II drama from Masterpiece, returns for Season 2 and opens in 1941 with the blitz in the Northwest of England. And Hotel Portofino returns for a second season and follows the Ainsworth family as they run a hotel for upper-class travelers on the Italian Riviera in the Roaring ‘20s.

From community fundraising events to educational projects to local productions and PBS programming – it’s all possible because of members like you. Thank you for your support – it truly makes a difference.

$martPath Nominated for Public Media Award

$martPath – a fun series for K-3 students to learn about money that combines live-action, music videos, original songs, comedy, ventriloquism and puppetry – has been nominated for a Public Media Award by the National Educational Telecommunications Association. While these videos can stand alone, there is also curriculum available on PBS LearningMedia as well as a website for teachers and parents. The awards will be presented at the Public Media Awards Gala on September 10 after this issue of the magazine goes to print.

The American Buffalo is the biography of an improbable, shaggy beast that has found itself at the center of many of the country’s most mythic and heartbreaking tales. The two-part series, which has been in production for four years, will take viewers on a journey through more than 10,000 years of North American history and across some of the continent’s most iconic landscapes, tracing the mammal’s evolution, its significance to the Great Plains and, most importantly, its relationship to the Indigenous People of North America. Tune in for your chance to receive the American Buffalo Collection: 2-DVD set, hardback book, Pendleton National Park Coffee Mug, and The American Buffalo soundtrack CD.

Public Media Connect in the Community

Our staff participated in multiple community events throughout the summer as part of our larger ongoing efforts to bring our educational resources and PBS programming to families, caregivers and educators throughout our region. We hosted Girl Scouts in Cincinnati and in Dayton; we were at the West End Business Festival, hosted by the Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses and the West End Business Alliance; we attended the City Flea and Kids’ Market; and more!

This Ohio Learns 360 community event will include Nature Cat character meet and greets, Curious Critters author talks with David Fitzsimmons, a performance from the Olohana Polynesian Dancers, live animal ambassadors and more.
