Dear

All the best,

This month, programmingPBSsees the premiere of a new limited series, Magpie Murders, on Masterpiece Mystery. Lesleystarsbasedmystery-within-a-mystery,Thisonabest-sellingnovel,award-winningactressManville.Season2of Miss Scarlet and the Duke finds Eliza Scarlet continuing to face the challenges of being a female private detective in male-dominated Victorian England. Masterpiece also premieres the new crime drama, Annika. Described as a ‘police procedural with wit,’ Nicola Walker stars as the speed-boat driving head of Glasgow’s newly-formed Marine Homicide unit. Making Black America: Through the Grapevine is a new documentary series from Henry Louis Gates, Jr. that explores the Black American experience through interviews with leading academics, scholars and experts. Thank you for supporting CET and ThinkTV. Everything we do is possible – because of you. Enjoy the fall colors!

2 October 2022

The first activities from the statewide education initiative, Ohio Learns 360, launched last month, including the After School 360 program and the Virtual Field Trips. The first virtual field trip is to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and is available to stream on the PBS Video App. We’re looking forward to the first Family webinar later this month. Public Media Connect’s education team is also busy conducting workshops for early childhood care providers and professional development sessions with educators.

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the beautiful fall weather. This month the education and production teams at Public Media Connect are busy with early learning workshops, education initiatives and local production activities. October also features some wonderful new programming from PBS.

But first, I want to thank our volunteers, donors, sponsors and bidders who participated in the CET/ ThinkTV Action Auction last month - your support helped to make this a successful fundraising event.

Station News

Learn more online at www.OhioLearns360.org.

While teachers are providing excellent educational support in the classroom, helping children continue to learn after school can be a challenge, especially for after-school programs and parents at home. To help fill that gap, CET and ThinkTV are offering a live, virtual program called After School 360 every Tuesday at 4pm.

As our members, we wanted to let you know that we plan to air the Ohio Debate Commission gubernatorial and U.S. Senate debates. At the time of publication, those debates are scheduled to air live at 7pm on October 10 and October 12 respectively on CET, ThinkTV16 and the station livestreams. We also plan to air the Chief Justice debate but, because that one will likely be held in the morning or afternoon, we will broadcast it at 11pm on either October 10 or October 12, also on CET, ThinkTV16 and the station livestreams.

Our new installment of the series, called Engineering Your Future – Middle School Edition, is designed to inspire students, especially girls and students of color, about engineering and other in-demand STEM careers with real stories from young STEM professionals that look like them. In this new video collection, a middle school host is on a mission to find out what makes engineering so special. Dynamic young engineers reveal their personal influences - their mentors, heroes, interests and talents - who guided them from a young age into their rewarding STEM careers.

Ohio Learns 360, which aims to reach kindergarten through fifth-grade students from underserved communities, kicked off this spring and continues through September 2024. The Ohio Department of Education is providing $5,000,000 in funding through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER), first authorized by Congress in 2020.

Engineering Your Future Expands onto PBS LearningMedia

CET and ThinkTV Offer Virtual After School Program Called After School 360

Engineering Your Future, which originally launched in 2009, shares real stories from young professionals who want to inform and inspire students about in-demand engineering careers.

After School 360, which has been created as part of the Ohio Learns 360 project, will continue through May and includes read-alongs, clips of favorite PBS Kids shows, hands-on activities and more. Each live, virtual session is led by a local PBS educational staff member.

So what does that mean for PBS NewsHour? On ThinkTV16, NewsHour will air as planned each day at 6pm. On CET, we’ll air NewsHour at 6pm instead of 7pm on the days of the debates and we’ll air NewsHour at 7pm – it’s normal time – on CET Create, 48.2. Thanks for your patience while we work to bring you the debates and PBS NewsHour in the timeliest way possible.
