Dear Member,
Welcome to November!
I hope this letter finds you well and that you are finding time to relax and enjoy all your public television stations have to offer. Events and local productions are keeping us busy at CET and ThinkTV
First, I would like to thank our Board of Trustees for issuing a challenge grant. Starting November 24 and running through the end of the year, they will match all new gifts to CET and ThinkTV dollar for dollar. This is a great way to make year-end gifts go even further, and we appreciate our board’s generosity.
Our development team is hosting America’s Test Kitchen events in Dayton and Cincinnati this month and is gearing up for Giving Tuesday as well as Holiday Giving and Year-End Giving. More information is available in the station news section of this magazine.
On the local production side, our digital series, The Baking Journal, will be coming to you live on YouTube on November 4 as host Stephanie prepares a wonderful recipe for viewers. This month also brings new episodes of SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar and The Art Show as well as the premiere of the third broadccast episode of our community affairs program, Brick by Brick: Solutions for a Thriving Community. Production
work continues on our next documentary, Jeffrey’s Journey, and our most recent documentary Willis “Bing” Davis: Reach High & Reach Back is available to stream.
PBS programming celebrates Veterans Day with Salute to Service, featuring American musical artist Mickey Guyton hosting an evening of special honors to our nation’s heroes. “Make Peace or Die: Honor the Fallen,” from Independent Lens, follows Marine veteran Anthony Marquez as he connects with the families of the fallen from his unit and finds peace for himself.
“Patsy Cline: Walkin’ After Midnight” from Great Performances explores the legend of Patsy Cline and the indelible mark she left on American music.
LEONARDO da VINCI, a two-part, four-hour documentary directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon, explores the life and work of the 15th-century polymath. Lidia Celebrates America follows Chef Lidia Bastianich on her 13th journey across America as she meets chefs, farmers and entrepreneurs.
From local productions to events to PBS programming – it’s all possible because of your support. For that, we

We had three long, wonderful days with Rick Steves and our friends at the Cincinnati Pops in September. We had dozens of cameras rolling as Rick Steves shared the stories of his travels alongside an audio track of some of Europe’s most enchanting symphonic works. We are deep in production on the resulting film and are so excited to be able to share it with you – and PBS audiences around the country – in 2025. Stay tuned for more information!
Although this is the November issue of the magazine, the holiday season is already upon us and year-end giving is ramping up! Here are two dates we wanted to add to your calendar:
December 3: With Thanksgiving being later in the month this year, Giving Tuesday has been moved to December. Always falling on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving that encourages people to support their favorite causes, charities and non-profit organizations. Giving Tuesday has become a huge part of our year-end giving goals and we appreciate your support! You can donate early at CETconnect.org or thinktv.org.
December 31: If you are interested in making a Qualified Charitable Donation, those donations must be received by December 31. If you’re at least 70 1/2 years of age, now is a great time to reach out to your plan administrator about next steps. If you are considering CET or ThinkTV as a recipient of a donation and have questions, please contact our team:
CET: Dan Virzi - 513-345-6582 or dvirzi@CETconnect.org
ThinkTV: Laura Letton - 937-220-1647 or lletton@thinktv.org
Pat has been a member of CET since 2021, but is a longtime supporter and lover of PBS. Pat is a retiree from the apparel industry in New York City, where she was also a member of her local station. Pat moved to Cincinnati in 2018, and has enjoyed the art scene. She visits the art museum monthly and enjoys the Mariemont Players. She is looking forward to the Cincinnati Ballet and all the other fun things the city has to offer.
Pat says she is inspired to be a CET member because she loves the quality and variety of programming. Pat enjoys watching PBS News Hour as it is her political, national, and international news source. She loves the Masterpiece programs and enjoys many of the international series from Walter Presents that she streams on Passport. Pat has enjoyed many PBS personalities and believes they are all such masters in their fields.
Since 2001, America’s Test Kitchen has been captivating culinary enthusiasts with their unique, scientific approach to cooking. CET and ThinkTV are excited to have the chefs return to our area for events on Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday, November 13.

If you’re looking further out, we also have thank you tickets available for the Shamrock Tenors concert on Saturday, March 22, at 7:30pm at the Schuster Center. The group is a powerhouse of talent embodied with silky smooth vocals, champion Irish step dancing and Ireland’s best multiinstrumentalists — integrating a flavorful mix of guitar, flute, fiddle, feadóg stáin (Celtic whistle) and the ancient bodhrán drum. The Shamrock Tenors take viewers on a journey through Ireland’s most beloved classic songs, in beautiful five-part harmony, performed with that cheeky Irish charm. Those tickets can also be found at thinktv.org/tickets. Great Minds don’t just think alike. They partner up.
