Second Season of Engineering Your Future: Middle School Edition Underway

Flight-Centered Curriculum Continues to Soar

Middle school student Riley Davis is on a mission to talk to as many engineers as possible to find outwhat’s so special about engineering? Engineers from the Dayton/Cincinnati region talk about their pathways to engineering, including who influenced them along the way, and how they overcame any obstacles they encountered. The conversations with engineers bust a few myths (you don’t need to be a genius at math) and take on a few stereotypes (you can be interested in cosmetics and engineering.) Now in production for its second season, the video collection is designed to inspire girls and students of color to explore engineering and other in-demand STEM careers. The collection is available on YouTube and on PBS LearningMedia –just search Engineering Your Future

The Art Show Returns with Three New Episodes

Public Media Connect’s award-winning series The Art Show returns with three new episodes this month. Take a walk in Dublin to create found object art using Patterns in Nature, visit the Temple-Tifereth Israel in Cleveland for Andy Warhol’s Jewish Icons portrait series, and stop into Red Diamond Mandolins in Athens where luthier and Oh io Heritage Fellow, Don MacRostie, puts his heart and soul into each handcrafted instrument. We’ll also meet West African dancer Quianna Simpson in Columbus, find out what goes into the design of each Ohio brewery poster for the annual Prints & Pints event, learn about the Latinx artists in Northeast Ohio behind the ‘Doors to My Barrio’ project, and take in the ‘Like a Good Armchair’ exhibit that showcases items from the permanent collection of Oberlin College. You’ll see these stories and more from our region and beyond. Tune in Saturdays at 6pm on CET, Sundays at 5:30pm on ThinkTV16, Sundays at 8pm on CET Arts or anytime on the PBS App or YouTube.

Problem Solving with Wilbur and Orville, our curriculum project created in partnership with the National Aviation Hall of Fame, continues to take flight in elementary school classrooms throughout the state of Ohio. The program, which includes five days of curriculum, features videos, engagement opportunities and lessons, is getting great feedback from teachers and students. Some local classes are even including field trips to the National Aviation Hall of Fame! We are excited to continue to grow this partnership and share more updates in the future.

Move to Include Initiative and Event at ThinkTV

Public Media Connect is pleased to be part of Move to Include, the national initiative that uses the power of public media to promote inclusion. In March, in honor of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, we hosted an in-person and online screening and discussion around the WXXI film, A Good Life, for more than 150 guests, created special online programming blocks for Move to Include content, and continued our ongoing social media effort to raise awareness by sharing important and empowering stories. Thank you to the Charles D. Berry Foundation for their support of these efforts.
