Welcome Dear Member, Welcome to summer! I hope you are enjoying the warmer temperatures and finding much to watch and enjoy on your public television stations.

For CET and ThinkTV, the arrival of summer marks the end of our fiscal year (June 30th) and, on behalf of our Board of Trustees and our staff, I want to thank all of our members, volunteers, businesses and foundations who support us throughout the year. Your support gives us the opportunity to provide programming, educational resources and online services to the people of Southwest Ohio.

Now, let’s talk programming. Our production and communications departments are working on creating local content related to PBS’ new series, The Great American Recipe. The cooking competition premieres this month and will feature host Alejandra Ramos and judges Leah Cohen, Tiffany Derry and Graham Elliot leading a nationwide search for what PBS describes as “treasured recipes from the nation’s most talented amateur cooks” while also celebrating “the multiculturalism that makes American food unique and iconic.”

On Sundays, Hotel Portofino, a new period drama set on the Italian Riviera in the 1920s, follows the daughter of a wealthy industrialist who moves to Italy to set up a quintessentially British hotel in the town of Portofino.

Masterpiece’s Endeavour returns for Season 8 and finds our heroes investigating suspected IRA retaliations, the murder of a local cab driver and the peculiar killing of a college fellow.

The 23rd annual Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor finds a lineup of leading performers saluting Jon Stewart, one of America’s top social and comedic voices.

American Masters: Joe Papp in Five Acts tells the story of New York’s indomitable, street-wise champion of the arts who introduced interracial casting to the American stage and brought us free Shakespeare in the Park.

June Highlights American Masters “Joe Papp in Five Acts” Friday, June 3, at 9pm on ThinkTV16 and CET

This feature-length documentary film tells the story of New York’s indomitable, street-wise champion of the arts who introduced interracial casting to the American stage and created free Shakespeare in the Park, Hair and A Chorus Line. From 1954 until his death in 1991, Papp brought more theater to more people than any other producer in history.

ON THE COVER - Hotel Portofino

Sunday, June 19 through July 24, at 8pm on CET and ThinkTV16 Set in the beautiful backdrop of Mussolini’s Italian Riviera in 1926, Hotel Portofino tells the story of matriarch Bella Ainsworth, who wants her eponymous hotel to be a home away from home for wealthy English travelers.

Along with demanding guests, she struggles to contend with an errant husband.

Sundays, June 19 through July 3, at 9pm on CET and ThinkTV16 It’s 1971 and our heroes investigate suspected IRA retaliations, the murder of a local cab driver, and the peculiar killing of a college fellow, which results in putting one of their own in imminent danger.

Jon Stewart: The Mark Twain Prize

Tuesday, June 21, at 9pm on ThinkTV16 and CET

59-year-old Jon Stewart rose to prominence as a standup comic and host before taking over Comedy Central’s The Daily Show in 1999. His 16-year run turned him into a cultural and political force as Stewart trained his satirical eye on both politics and an increasingly polarized national media. Stewart has also become a vocal proponent of a number of social causes.

America’s Test Kitchen: Hosts Bridget Lancaster and Julia Collin Davison head into the test kitchen to bring viewers equipment reviews, taste tests, and recipes for the home cook. The skilled duo lead a team of test cooks that viewers have come to love and trust.

Frankie Drake Mysteries: Set in 1920s Toronto, the series follows the adventures of Frankie Drake (Lauren Lee Smith) and her partner Trudy Clarke (Chantel Riley) at Drake Private Detectives, the city’s only all-female detective agency.

Father’s Day Activity: DIY Pen Holder Materials required: • Tin Can (Make sure it doesn’t have sharp ends) • Construction Paper • Scissors • Glue • Colors • Picture of the yourself with your father (for personalization) • Decoration items such as pom poms, stickers, glitter, etc.

Steps: 1. Have an adult help you cut the construction paper into the size of the tin can.

2. Write or draw your message for your father on the construction paper.

3. Glue the construction paper around the tin can.

It is now turning into a pen holder.

4. Decorate the holder either by gluing the picture of yourself with your father or with other decorative materials of your choice.

5. Gift it to your dad!

Chuck and Betty Ann Ellman were happily married for fortyeight years. They spent many hours watching drama and arts programming on PBS. After Betty passed away, Chuck, a Procter & Gamble retiree, continued to dedicate his talent to many nonprofits to the day he passed away.
