February 2025 Public Media CONNECT Member Program Guide

Welcome

Dear Member,

Welcome to February! Your public television stations are looking at a busy month hosting events in Dayton and Cincinnati, producing new episodes of our weekly local productions, completing work on our latest documentary, and finishing a national special with Rick Steves and our own Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.

We have quite a few events this month. You can join us on February 8 in Dayton for An Afternoon of Bourbon and Baking, a special event hosted as part of The Baking Journal, centered on bringing desserts and bourbon together. The fun continues on February 11 when we’ll participate in a virtual wine tasting with Rick Steves via Zoom. Then, on February 13, we’ll partner with the Cincinnati Museum Center for an event celebrating their new Julia Child exhibition.

Our production team has been busy putting the finishing touches on new episodes of our local broadcast programs, including The Art Show, Brick by Brick, and SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar. Our latest documentary, Jeffrey’s Journey, will premiere next month and centers on a man living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Rick Steves’ Europe: A Symphonic Journey, our special project with Rick Steves and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, will premiere in the spring on CET, ThinkTV and nationally across the PBS system. You also can find new episodes of The Baking Journal every Monday on YouTube and Rodney Veal’s Inspired By every other week on your favorite podcast platform.

National PBS programming this month includes the premiere of Season 2 of Funny Woman, with Barbara

Station News

Education and Community Events

This fall and winter seasons have been an exciting time for our staff to engage with events in the community. The season kicked off with spooky stories, crafts and treats in our Adopt A Class classrooms at Hays-Porter Elementary School in the West End of Cincinnati. CET also joined other community organizations in the Getting Spooky with Gary the Lion trick-or-treating event at TQL Stadium, right next door to the station.

The Avondale Fall Festival and Books by the Banks were also wonderful ways for us to share information and activities with our community. In November, PBS KIDS premiered Carl the Collector, its first series with an autistic main character. We offered classroom screenings to our kindergarten and first grade Adopt A Class students and a kindergarten classroom at Shawnee Early Childhood School in West Chester. Our first winter event was Winter Wonderland at Seven Hills Neighborhood House, where over 200 attendees participated in holiday activities and crafts and got photos with Santa and Daniel Tiger.

Member Spotlight: Judy S. From Blue Ash, Ohio

Judy has been a member of CET since 1990. She finds that most of the programs she wants to watch are often on CET. In addition, her membership not only supports public television, but it’s the best bargain in town.

Judy loves the variety of shows that are offered and enjoys watching our programming at least a couple of nights each week alongside her Beagle-Basset Hound mix, Mac. Having lived in Yorkshire, England for several years, she especially likes watching All Creatures Great and Small because of how the show pulls at her nostalgic ties to that temporary home.

She says she enjoys other Masterpiece programs like Call The Midwife and Grantchester. As a former teacher, and as a parent and a grandparent, Judy has been inspired by personalities including Mister Rogers and Ken Burns.

“I love the variety PBS offers. When I want to learn something new or watch something that requires some thought and concentration, the options are there. When I am tired and simply want to be entertained, the choices are there. When I want something inspiring or uplifting, the choices are there. When I am up for watching something different from the language and places to which I’m accustomed, I turn to Walter Presents. As I said, so many choices – so many good choices.”

Donate to the Summer Auction
