Dear Member,
Welcome to March and the arrival of spring! A time of growth and new activity – it’s also a busy time for your public television stations.
ThinkTV and CET will launch our most important membership drive of the year this month. We’ll ask our members to renew their generous support and we hope new members will join you in supporting the most widely-used non-profit organization in our region. This is also the time of year we begin to make commitments to PBS and others to invest in the programming you enjoy each week and it’s your membership support that makes those commitments possible.
Speaking of programming, the characters of Nonnatus House return for Season 12 of Call the Midwife this month. Also, Sanditon returns for its third and final season and a new 8-part series, Marie Antoinette, follows the teenage Maria Antonia as she travels to Versailles to marry LouisAuguste, soon to be Louis XVI, the king of France.
Great Performances “Remember This” stars David Straithairn as World War II Polish resistance fighter Jan Karski. American Experience “The Movement and the Madman” explores how two anti-war protests in the fall of 1969 – the largest the country had ever seen – caused President Nixon to cancel what he called his “madman” plans for a massive escalation of the Vietnam war, including his threat to use nuclear weapons. And Frontline’s “Age of Easy Money” focuses on how the Federal Reserve is pulling back on its’ epic monetary experiment that started with the Great Recession.
Programming on Women’s History and Developmental Disability Awareness will also be featured on Sundays in March on CET and ThinkTV16.
Our work in the community also continues. ThinkTV and CET’s Educational Services staff are busy preparing for a Super Saturday session this month. Super Saturday is a training event we host for the project Ohio Ready to Learn. We invite teachers who work with infants to preschoolers to attend free training on three different topics related to Early Childhood Development. These state-approved training events are supported by the Ohio Department of Jobs & Family Services. Teachers who attend the training sessions not only obtain credit hours from the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association but they also get to learn about different PBS resources that they can use in the classroom. Our educational team also provides the teachers free books about the topics covered in the training sessions. If you’re a teacher, visit thinktv. org/education or cetconnect.org/education to see what resources are available for your classroom
From programming to educational training – it’s all available to the communities we serve because of your ongoing support!

Carnival of the Animals: Remix
Move to Include Recognizes March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
Move to Include is a national initiative led by WXXI, the PBS station in Rochester, NY, that uses the power of public media to promote inclusion for people with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities. As partners in this initiative, through programming and special events, ThinkTV & CET look to build a more inclusive community by inspiring and motivating people to embrace different abilities and include all people in every aspect of community life.
Join us for a virtual event! ThinkTV will screen highlights from the documentary A Good Life and host a local panel discussion on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 7pm to 8:30pm. Life is full of joys and challenges for us all — but the experiences of individuals living with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) is something that not everyone understands or appreciates. A Good Life, a WXXI production, takes an intimate look into the lives of six adults living with I/DD and their families. The film shares the challenges and opportunities they face, while leading national experts and historians in the field offer insight.
To receive an event link, please send your name, email address and phone number, by March 16, 2023, to Travis Rees, trees@thinktv.org, 937-220-1669 or visit https://thinktv.org/move-to-include.
Carnival of the Animals: Remix, designed for children ages 3-8, brings Camille Saint-Saëns’ magical and engaging work into today’s world. The program from The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and CET will take viewers and listeners through a journey around the world, visiting all seven continents and the animals and musical styles of each region. Infusing a variety of multi-dimensional art forms and musical styles – as well as introducing a lineup of new animal characters – this concert brings a modern twist to this classic in a new arrangement for chamber orchestra and local and international guest artists. To experience this concert, tune in to CET or the station livestream on Saturday, April 1, at 7pm or Sunday, April 2, at 1pm. Free educational resources also will be available on PBS LearningMedia.
Kaplan Challenge Continues for 42nd Year
Although Dr. Stan and Mickey Kaplan are no longer with us, their commitment lives on with the 42nd Annual Dr. Stanley and Mickey Kaplan Foundation Challenge Grant. The goal is to bring in new membership funds so that CET can continue to be a leading provider of arts, educational, and cultural programming throughout Greater Cincinnati. Through this generous grant, $40,000 of new CET membership dollars will be matched from February 25 through March 12 during our Spring Membership Drive.
Because of Stan and Mickey’s dedication to public broadcasting, CET is able to continue to bring music, theatre, dance, art and news programs to our community. Thanks to the Kaplan Foundation generosity, more than 2 million viewers are given a front row seat to view the splendor of our world and to witness the very best in human accomplishment.
CET is grateful to the Kaplan family for their friendship and continued commitment for four decades to helping us positively impact the many communities we serve.

The City That Sings: Cincinnati’s May Festival
Save the date and tune in to CET using your favorite device on Saturday, May 6, at 7pm for the premiere of our newest documentary, The City That Sings: Cincinnati’s May Festival. Part inspirational, part informative, the film, produced and directed by Richard Wonderling (Cincinnati Music Hall: The Next Movement), will focus on the engaging personalities and experiences of the people who comprise today’s May Festival Chorus. Through a series of deeply moving and personal profiles, audiences will recognize that the traditions which built the May Festival are not isolated ideals plucked from a dusty past, but rather the love and respect for music excellence was then, and now, the driver of the chorus. Importantly, when it comes to the May Festival, the past truly is the present.
Who’s not looking forward to summer and enjoying outdoor activities? The CET/ ThinkTV Action Auction, which will be held in September, will have a summer edition again this year! The bidding will be open May 3 through May 7. Check out CETconnect.org/ auction or thinktv.org/auction for more details and a direct link to preview the available items.

Charles D. Berry Foundation - March Pledge Challenge & Developmental Disabilities Awareness Support
ThinkTV thanks Charles D. Berry, Chairman of the Charles D. Berry Foundation, for his generous support of our stations.
