Dear Member,
As we enter the month of July and celebrate the birth of our great nation, I am reminded that Public Television is America at its best.
Created in 1967 by a group of educators and legislators, PBS was established to preserve space in our broadcast spectrum for educational, historical, and cultural programming for future generations. Thanks to a private-public partnership, we have been able to fulfill that mission and serve our local communities across the nation.
We begin this month with A Capitol Fourth, a program that has come into American homes every Fourth of July for more than 45 years. Celebrate our country’s 249th birthday live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol with all-star musical and patriotic performances, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of premier pops conductor Jack Everly and the greatest display of Independence Day fireworks across the nation.
Then, The Great American Recipe returns with a new season, premiering July 11 on CET and July 12 on ThinkTV16. Eight home cooks from across the country will showcase signature dishes that reflect

their unique backgrounds and stories as they compete in this heartfelt cooking competition.
And this fall, your public television stations will showcase the latest Ken Burns documentary, The American Revolution, kicking off the 250th Anniversary of the United States. Filmed and researched over eight years, this six-part series is an incredible snapshot into our nation’s rich history.
The common thread in all this amazing content is one word: American. I am proud that our public television stations share a role in bringing this quality programming into your home. Our promise to you is that we will continue the good work – both locally and nationally – and bring you the highest quality television and educational services possible.
Regarding our federal funding, thank you for connecting with your representatives – more than 1.5 million messages have gone to members of Congress around the country through Protect My Public Media. Your voices are being heard, and you are making a difference.
Public Television is a national treasure – one that was created to serve all Americans. This work is only possible because of your support and efforts. Thank you for your continued vote of confidence.

While watching The Queen’s Garden, Mary Z. was deeply moved by the way it captured the beauty and majesty of Queen Elizabeth’s Buckingham Palace Garden. Inspired, she made a donation and was thrilled to receive a packet of seeds from the Queen’s Garden as a thank-you gift. With help from her grandson, a local beekeeper, she started her own garden. The experience filled her with joy and deepened her appreciation for public television. “My heart felt bigger knowing PBS would give back to someone like me in such a lovely way,” Mary said.
Mary is a devoted viewer with a deep love for history. She’s especially fond of the documentaries from Ken Burns and American Experience, which she watches through Passport. One of her weekly must-watch programs is Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. because of how it resonates with her family history. Her greatgrandparents immigrated from Ireland, landing on an island near Montreal. Her family moved to Michigan before eventually settling in Ohio. “I have roots too,” Mary said, hoping to uncover more pieces of her family’s story. Mary proudly supports PBS and encourages others to tune in because there’s something for everyone.
The Hope Zone Promise Neighborhood is an initiative of the Omega CDC, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Hope Zone aims to support 6,700 children and 3,400 families living in 17 neighborhoods in Northwest Dayton. We focus on building pathways to self-sufficiency across 4 domains: Education, Economic Stability, Community Engagement, and Health & Wellness.

was among the first generation of children to grow up watching Sesame Street. She faithfully watched and learned from Big Bird and his friends every day.
As a teenager, she joined her parents to watch Masterpiece on Sunday night, often mimicking the opening.
After graduating from Purdue University, Annette continued to enjoy watching PBS, including ThinkTV and CET.
When Annette prepared her will, she left a gift to ThinkTV and those organizations she valued and enjoyed throughout her lifetime.
