Welcome
Dear Member,
Poet T. S. Eliot wrote “April is the cruelest month…,” but I disagree. April brings brighter days, spring flowers and the chance for me to say “Thank You” to all our Members who joined or renewed their membership support during our March Membership Campaign. It’s your support that makes everything we do possible. Our production team has uploaded the first podcast episodes of our new community affairs program, Brick by Brick, and is putting the finishing touches on our latest documentary on Dayton artist and educator Bing Davis.
As we approach the end of the school year, students, parents and educators will find many adventures to stream through our statewide educational initiative, Ohio Learns 360, including the Cleveland Museum of History, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton and Gorman Heritage Farm. More information is available on our websites and at PBSLearningMedia.org.
Our development department is hard at work preparing for our online Summer Action Auction. Next month, you’ll be able to bid on certificates for events and activities to be used during the summer and early fall.
Local productions are a vital part of Public Media Connect; they focus on the people and stories that exist in the communities we serve. We’ve created a new local programming block for Sunday afternoons that will air simultaneously on CET and ThinkTV16. This local production showcase starts in May and will feature all local programs, documentaries and specials.
This month PBS national programming features the premiere of Julius Caesar: The Making of a Dictator, which explores how one man was able to overthrow nearly five centuries of ancient Roman democracy in only 16 years.

Just in time for the total solar eclipse, NOVA: Great American Eclipse follows scientists as they work to unlock secrets of our Sun. Mr Bates vs The Post Office, from MASTERPIECE, is a four-part series based on the real-life British Post Office scandal that sparked public outrage in the UK. American Experience debuts Poisoned Ground: The Tragedy of Love Canal which delves into one of the largest, most notorious environmental and public health disasters in U.S. history and shows how the battle for justice, led mostly by women, created the basis for the landmark federal Superfund program.

There are also some great new programs on PBS Passport, including America the Bountiful, My Life is Murder and Table for All with Buki Elegbede
From local productions and podcasts to educational projects to national PBS programming – it’s all available because of you. Thank you for supporting Public Media Connect - CET and ThinkTV.

Engage in Conversation with SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar

As spring blooms across Cincinnati, SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar continues to bring you engaging conversations with remarkable individuals shaping our community. In April, we’re thrilled to feature John and Susan Tew, esteemed community leaders and health advocates as they discuss their impactful initiatives and vision for a healthier, more connected Cincinnati. In March, we also featured enlightening conversations with Judith Van Ginkel, author of “Chasing Success: The Challenge for Nonprofits,” and Matthew Randazzo with the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Stream these and more on the PBS Video App or at CETconnect.org.

Thank you to the more than 70 friends who joined us at the Knox Joseph Distillery at the OTR StillHouse in February for “An Afternoon of Gin & Baking”. We had a great time with “GnTellectuals” AJ and Stephanie from The Baking Journal!

Station News
Member Spotlight: Pete B. from Loveland
Pete has been a member of CET since 1994. However, his history with the station goes back further. Pete started his career at CET in 1959-1960 while he was a student at CCM. As an engineer, Pete learned his profession by running cameras, shading video, switching lighting and running projection. He was one of the first students to operate the new Ampex videotape machine. At that time, the station was mainly doing LIVE programs for Cincinnati Public Schools during the daytime.
After his time at CET, Pete worked in radio at AFN Berlin for three years and met his wife in Germany. Pete also worked at WKRC-TV as a VTR Engineer and editor for “PM Magazine.” He retired after 30 years and now runs the livestream for his church. Pete watches PBS programs several times a week. His favorite programs are This Old House, Ask This Old House, Antiques Roadshow, NOVA and Ken Burns Specials.
“I started my TV education at WCET. I have a soft part in my heart for what I learned there and how it has grown. PBS has taken TV to a new level of quality programming, much from BBC. I support CET because it is an alternative to the many channels of ‘same old,’ and CET and PBS give us an unbiased eye on the world. I have supported CET for many years and plan to continue. Thank you, CET.”

CET and ThinkTV are grateful
to
and Mrs. Richard Berghamer and the
at Fifth Third Bank for the dedicated support of the
Connect Member Magazine

Mr. and Mrs. Berghamer were loyal CET supporters since 1987. After her husband’s passing in 2000, Mrs. Ellen Berghamer continued to generously support her favorite nonprofits including public television. She was an avid PBS NewsHour viewer and trusted Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff as her news source.
She was employed by Procter and Gamble Corp. as a secretary and a receptionist. Later in life, she lived at the Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Community. Mrs. Berghamer passed in 2016 but her love of public television continues thanks to the Ellen and Richard Berghamer Foundation and our friends at the Foundation Office at Fifth Third Bank.
