| PRéFACE

“L’ART POUR TOUT LE MONDE” Les paroles de l‘artiste: «Avec cette œuvre, je voulais essayer de surmonter les obstacles visuels qui obligent les personnes souffrantes du syndrome de Dalton à voir une réalité différente de celle que l’on vit, mais pas pour cela moins attrayante.

Vincent Van Gogh lui-même, le maître incontesté de l’utilisation de la couleur, était daltonien.

Honnêtement, je ne considère pas le daltonisme comme un défaut: je le définirais plus comme une caractéristique.

Il n’y a pas de chose plus fascinant que de penser à son oeuvre d’art qui change de couleur en fonction du point de vue à partir duquel on l’observe. Andy Warhol lui-même avait expérimenté avec sa Marilyn Monroe comment même en changeant la palette de couleurs, l’icône du mythe américain restée inchangée L’expression «ART POUR TOUT LE MONDE» a un double sens pour moi, «l’art s’adresse au monde entier» et «l’Art est considérée comme telle par quiconque l‘observant», quels que soient leurs goûts culturels, sociaux ou même physiologiques.

Si chacun de nous pouvait voir les couleurs du monde à leur propre maniere, nous vivrions dans un monde sans préjugés ...“

| PREFACE

“ART FOR EVERYONE” The Artist’s Words: “With this work, I wanted to try to overcome the visual barriers that oblige the syndrome of Dalton suffZVerers to see a different reality than the common one, but not less attractive.

Vincent Van Gogh, undisputed master in the use of color, was also colorblind” Catania continues to explain. “I honestly don’t see color blindness as a deficiency: I’d call it more a characteristic.

There is nothing more fascinating than thinking of one’s own work of art that changes colour depending on the point of view from which it is observed. The same Andy Warhol had experimented with his Marilyn Monroe, as while changing the color palette, the icon of American myth remained unchanged.

The phrase “ART FOR EVERYONE” has a double meaning for me: “art aimed for the whole world” and “art considered as such from whoever observes it”, regardless of their own cultural, social or even physiological filters. If each of us would look at the colours of the world in our own way, we would all live in a world without prejudice...”

| BIOGRAPHIE Cesare Catania est né à Milan le 1 Février 1979.

Il a passé une grande partie de sa vie dans la ville natale, où il a développé, à la fois dans la vie privée et au cours de son programme d’études, une véritable disposition pour les arts graphiques et picturales. Déjà de son enfance il montre clairement, ainsi que pour les arts visuels, la passion pour les mathématiques et la musique, deux disciplines les uns des autres si différentes mais pour Cesare Catania si proches.

Le grand-père violoniste transmet la passion pour les instruments de musique et de l’âge de neuf ans Cesare Catania a commencé à prendre des leçons de piano. Au cours des 10 prochaines années d’études de piano il développe une passion pour la rigueur et la créativité de la musique classique.

Dans les mathématiques et dans la musique l’auteur, au cours de son éducation artistique et culturelle, retrouve l’achèvement naturel de son essence, d’un côté dirigé vers la rigueur et la manière schématique de s’approcher à la vie et de l’autre côté une vision multiperspective de la même, une vision, celle-ci, qui le conduira à s’approcher à n’importe quelle discipline à partir de points de vue toujours différents les uns des autres.

Ce manque de préjugé sera également observée dans ses expressions artistiques, capable de saisir l’essence de l’objet peint soit dans des tableaux très détaillés et réalistes (comme par example dans ses tableaux “Composition Métaphysique” – 2016, “Composition Artistique” – 2016, “La Dynamique du Mouvement” – 2016) soit dans des tableaux abstraits et symboliques (“Vanité” – 2014, “Flamands au miroir” – 2015 – “Accroc” – 2012). Les premières peintures remarquables remontent au 1995, lorsque l’artiste exprime sa créativité pendant les heures scolaires dédiés au dessin, montrant une disposition particulière pour les études prospectives et pour les graphiques informels – abstraits.

En 1998, il s’inscrit à la faculté de génie où il a amélioré les études prospectives et isométriques et où il a appris à observer les problèmes et la réalité qui l’entoure en brisant toutes les figures en polygones en trois dimensions simples. Cette abilité à décomposer et modeler les solides autour de lui, on la retrouve dans ses peintures, qui expriment la réalité et les sentiments soit dans des plans bidimensionnels superposés (par example dans les peintures “144: Trio Jazz” – 2014 , “Nice (hommage à Matisse et Chagall)” – 2015) soit dans un élégant et harmonieux assortiment des figures solides et curvilignes (comme par example 7

dans le tableau “Lectures d’été (hommage à Pierluigi Nervi)” – 2016) Aussi bien qu’une forte disposition pour les sciences techniques pour les sciences artistiques, Cesare Catania développe au cours des années une passion particulière pour la photographie. En particulier, son attention est captée par les couleurs et la capacité de l’appareil photo d’immortaliser en un seul clic toute la force et le dynamisme des scènes en mouvement. La même attraction au dynamisme est facilement visible dans plusieurs de ses tableaux, soit dans ceux formels soit dans ceux informels et abstraits. Dans le tableaux “La Violiniste de Barcelone – Version B” – 2016 , par example, l’auteur dépeint la protagoniste comme dans une photographie où l’orchestre et l’arrière-plan disparaissent pour céder la place à la musicienne excentrique en mouvement immortalisée dans un capture d’écran fort et intense. Les études en mathématiques et en génie ainsi qu’une passion pour l’art en général donnent vie à des œuvres qui mélangent la sculpture et la peinture. Dans ses peintures on voit un mélange de tradition (utilisation de matériaux tels que le plâtre, le bois, la pierre, la peinture à l’huile) et d’innovation (utilisation de matériaux à base de silicone et acrylique). Tout cela pour donner vie à des oeuvres tridimensionnelles qui “sortent littéralement de la toile”.

Cesare catania, en effet, prépare souvent ses toiles avec de vrais projets et études statiques, de manière que les matériaux fragiles et difficiles à manipuler comme le plâtre puissent adhérer parfaitement à la toile. Le plâtre dans plusieurs de ses tableaux, est renforcé avec des clous et des filets pour suivre la conception du dessin, mettant en évidence la capacité de l’auteur à fusionner ensemble créativité et capacité de rationaliser et de briser les figures de la peinture.

Dans “Zoo de Lisbonne”, par example, l’auteur dépeint ,dans une vision aux plans superposés, animaux comme l’éléphant, la girafe et le taureau.

Ces derniers, rélisés en plâtre et peints avec des couleurs acryliques forts, remplissent la scène sur trois niveaux d’une façon dynamique.

Les tableaux de Cesare Catania sont un “capture d’écran” d’action et des sentiments, synthèse extrème entre l’hermétisme et l’attention au détail.

Fasciné par l’art modérne, par l’architecture, par le cubisme et par les maîtres de la peinture classique, la maturité artistique de Cesare Catania est encore en évolution; toujours à la recherche des nouvelles techniques pour mieux exprimer ses inspirations.

| BIOGRAPHY Cesare Catania was born in Milan on 1st February 1979. He spent much of his life in his native city, where he developed both in his private life and during his course of studies, a real aptitude for graphic and pictorial arts. Early childhood clearly shows, as well as the visual arts, his passion for mathematics and music, two disciplines each other so different yet for Cesare Catania so similar.

His grandfather violinist transmits the passion for musical instruments and at the age of nine Cesare Catania begins taking piano lessons.

Within the next 10 years of studying the piano he develops a passion for rigor and creativity of classical music.

In mathematics and music the artist finds, in the course of his artistic and cultural education, the natural completion of his essence, on one side direct to the rigorous and the schematic way of approaching life and on the other side towards a vision of multiperspective of the same, a vision that the latter will bring him to approach any discipline from plans to points of view different among themselves. This lack of prejudice will also be observed in his artistic expressions, capable of grasping the essence of the object painted in paintings both highly detailed and realistic (such as in his paintings “Metaphysical Composition” – 2016, in “Artistic Composition” – 2016, “The Dynamics of the Movement” – 2016) and in other symbolic abstracts ( the “Vanity” – 2014, ” Flamingos in the mirror” – 2015 – the “Tear” – 2012).

The first notable paintings date back to 1995, when the artist expresses his creativity during school hours dedicated to design, showing particular aptitude for both prospective studies and for informal graphics – abstracted.

In 1998 he enrolled in the faculty of engineering where he improved the perspective and isometric studies and where he learned to observe the problems and the reality surrounding them by breaking down all the shapes into simple threedimensional polygons. This ability to break down and to mould solids that are around him are found in his paintings, which express reality and feelings of both two-dimensional overlapping plans (see for example the paintings “144 : Jazz Trio” – 2014, “Nice (tribute to Matisse and Chagall)” – 2015) and with the elegant and harmonious approach of solid and curvilinear shapes (such as in the painting “Summer

readings (tribute to Pierluigi Nervi)” – 2016).

As well as a strong aptitude for both technical sciences and artistic sciences, Cesare Catania matures over the years a particular passion for photography. In particular, his attention is captured by the colors and the camera’s ability to capture in one click all the strength and dynamism of moving scenes. The same attraction to the dynamism is easily seen in many of his paintings, both in the formal ones and in the informal and abstract ones. In his ” The Violinist of Barcelona – Version B” – 2016, for example, the artist portrays the protagonist just as in a photograph in which the orchestra and the background disappear to give way to an eccentric musician in an immortalized motion in a stationary strong and intense image.

Studies in mathematics and engineering together with a passion for art in general give rise to works that blend sculpture and painting, oil painting and innovation (use of silicone and acrylic-based materials). All this to create threedimensional works that “literally come out of the canvas”.

Cesare Catania infact often prepares his canvases with real projects and static studies, so as to adhere to the canvas in a complete and lasting way a fragile and difficult material to handle such as chalk. The latter in many of his paintings is reinforced with nails and nets to follow the outline of the design, highlighting the ability of the artist to fuse together creativity and capacity to rationalize and to break down the shapes of the painting. In the “Lisbon Zoo” for example the author portrays, in a vision of overlapping levels, animals such as an elephant, a giraffe and a bull. These, made ​​from chalk and painted with strong acrylic colors, fill the scene of three overlapping levels and in a dynamic way.

Cesare Catania’s paintings are a “still image” of actions and feelings, extreme synthesis between obscurity and attention to detail.

Fascinated by modern art, from architecture, from cubism and from painting masters from the classical age, Cesare Catania’s artistic maturity is still evolving; always looking for new techniques to make the most of his inspirations.

Inspiré par l’œuvre précédente numero 7 « La Bouche de l’Etna » (2014) – A Version, Cesare Catania a réalisé en 2017 quatre sculptures (B C D E Version) en fer et silicone relatif à ce sujet et le même titre de l’œuvre créé il y a trois ans.

Claire représentation du cratère du volcan italien, revisité par l’artiste dans une sculpture avec 4 couleurs différentes: rouge feu, noir bordeaux, noir-vert et blancjaune. Cette dernière version spécialement conçue par Cesare Catania pour transmettre couleur et émotions aux personnes souffrant du syndrome de Dalton.

Fer, acrylique, silicone et corde naturelle se réunissent pour donner vie à une forme d’art contemporain, élégante, équilibrée, qui rappelle le mouvement ,la couleur de la température du magma en fusion.

Inspired by the earlier work number 7 “The Mouth of Etna” – A Version (year 2014), Cesare Catania has realized four sculptures in 2017 made of iron and silicon which recalls the same subject and title of the work created 3 years earlier.

A clear representation of the Italian volcano crater, revisited by the artist in 4 different colours (B C D E) with sculptural keys: red flame, black/red-purple, black/green and white/yellow. The latter version (E Version) designed by Cesare Catania is specifically dedicated, in full colours and emotions, for people affected by Dalton syndrome (Colour Blind).

Steel, acrylic, natural rope and silicone are blended together to create contemporary elegant and balanced art forms, where the whole strength of the molten magma is recalled in the movements and colours.

La bouche du volcan est représenté avec des tons sombres près les couleurs vertes et rouges typiques d’un volcan où progressivement est en train de développer la végétation.

Carried out by Cesare Catania after one of his many trips to Sicily, “The Mouth of Etna” is a work of modern art that more than any other resembles a sculptue rather than a painting. The mouth of the volcano is represented with dark tones near to the green and red, typical colours of a volcano which is gradually growing back vegetation.

Lors d’un séjour chez des amis dans la campagne provençale, l’auteur est impressioné par la vivacité d’une pétite fille qui s’appelle Aleftina. La pétite est la protagoniste de ce tableau, qui la représente en train de jouer avec ses poupées et ses poupées tout en jouant avec elle. La scène est très animée. The Artist’s Words: “When writing this book, I thought about wanting to be able to communicate to everybody (in fact it’s translated into 5 languages ...) about that intangible part of my works, that part that can’t be seen; the inspiration. For this reason I decided to personally write and publish this work in a limited edition of more than 450 pages long”.
