Staff Showcase MEET THIS WEEK’S VALUED TEAM MEMBER Lauren has served as the Youth Apprenticeship Coach for Gibraltar, Southern Door, Sevastopol, Sturgeon Bay, and Washington Island Schools since November 2021 and joined the NEWYA team in the winter of 2022. Prior to NEWYA, she worked as the School-Based Coach for Door County schools through the Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) with the Ahnapee Youth Apprenticeship Consortium.

In her role, Lauren helps students explore career pathways through activities like job shadows, develop employability skills, and participate in hands-on learning experiences through the Youth Apprenticeship Program. She works closely with the DCEDC to provide career exploration opportunities, including 8th Grade Career Day, Manufacturing Day Tours, Door County Job Fairs, and Reality Store events promoting financial literacy.

Lauren’s favorite part of her job is seeing students soar in their roles because of connections through Youth Apprenticeship. She loves hearing from mentors that they have to remind themselves that specific students are still in high school because of how they conduct themselves in terms of quality of work, and also maturity on the job site. Gratification also comes from hearing students discuss how much they love their job, and on the flip side, hearing employers say how much they've benefited from a program like Youth Apprenticeship.
