Staff Showcase MEET THIS WEEK’S VALUED TEAM MEMBER After nearly a year with CESA 7, I am wrapping up my first school year as a Youth Apprenticeship School-Based Coach serving Mishicot, Reedsville, and Valders High Schools. In this role, I work closely with approximately 140 students, helping connect them with local businesses and meaningful career experiences through the Youth Apprenticeship program. Prior to joining the NEWYA team, I spent 8 years in the insurance world working as both a Claims Adjuster and Commercial Underwriter. After having my children, I joined the School District of Mishicot in the District Office for 3 years to be closer to them and be able to spend more time near home. In that role is where I really found my passion for working with students. Enter, my current role!

My favorite part of the job is watching students grow as they take initiative and responsibility for their future careers, while also knowing they feel comfortable coming to me for guidance and support. I also enjoy cheering them on in their extracurricular activities, where they truly shine. The ability for students to balance Youth Apprenticeship, sports, music, clubs and their academics is truly a remarkable thing.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, who is a Health and Physical Education Teacher, my daughter, who is just finishing kindergarten, my son, who is wrapping up 3k, and our Mini Goldendoodle. As a family, we love traveling the country with the goal of visiting all 30 MLB stadiums and cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers at each one! Because this journey has been so enjoyable, we have started to add in all of the NFL stadiums. Clearly, we enjoy any and all things having to deal with sports!

My first year being a part of the NEWYA team has been an absolute joy. The team and our leader are supportive and are always available with an open ear, to lend a hand or answer any questions. I am truly grateful to be a part of NEWYA and CESA 7.

District Spotlight - School District of Mishicot S T R E N G T H E N I N G S P E C I A L E D U C AT I O N S U P P O R T Mishicot School District is strengthening support for special education paraprofessionals through its partnership with CESA 7. Throughout the year, CESA 7 school psychologist Dr. Becky Steensen facilitated professional learning sessions for paraprofessionals across elementary, middle, and high school settings. Topics included behavior as communication, fostering student independence, best practices in supporting classroom instruction, and understanding autism.

Across the sessions, key themes included the importance of mindset, relationships, skillbuilding, and calm, consistent responses that help create safe learning environments.

Additional focus was placed on proactive supports before, during, and after lessons, as well as subtle supports that promote student independence. The active participation of both newer and veteran special education paraprofessionals helped create a collaborative and supportive learning community.

This work has been especially meaningful because the group has been engaged, interactive, and supportive. Participant feedback has been very positive, highlighting the value of a collaborative approach, practical strategies, and shared professional growth.

Director of Special Education Kari Stryhn has been a strong supporter of this work and of ongoing professional learning for paraprofessionals. Together, Mishicot School District and CESA 7 continue to build a strong partnership focused on staff growth and student success.
