Soccer, known as football in some parts of the world, is played by two teams of eleven players using a spherical ball. The teams compete on a marked rectangular field; goal areas are located at opposite ends of the playing field. The aim is to propel the ball into the opposing team’s net using the feet or head (never the hands or arms), and to score more goals than the opposing team.

The term “Acadians” refers to immigrants from France in the early 1600s who settled in the former colony of Acadia, a region encompassing the present-day provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
During the deportation in 1755, Acadians were uprooted from their land by the British and deported to New England or the United Kingdom. Afterwards, some survivors returned to Acadia, often many decades later.
The Acadian Festival is a national holiday that pays tribute to Acadians' cultural vitality and longstanding heritage in Canada. Kedgwick celebrates the Acadian Festival through a range of activities, including the raising of the Acadian flag, musical performances and a “tintamarre”, an Acadian tradition where people walk around the community and make lots of noise.

Space is also provided for vendors of Indigenous crafts and food. For four days, a sacred fire is lit for prayers and spiritual ceremonies.
The traditional feast is the most appreciated meal of the year. The fishermen supply salmon for thousands of visitors to enjoy. The moose meat comes from families of hunters who continue to teach and share the forest bounty. Fiddleheads are picked weeks in advance by Mi’gmaq community members and shared with all attendees.
