A SNAPSHOT OF RESTIGOUCHE

To better help you navigate the different regions where the activities are held, here is a glimpse of where each community is located. The Restigouche Regional Service Commission encompasses the municipalities, communities, and local service districts from Durham Parish (excluding Belledune) in the East to the Kedgwick Rural Community in the West It is worth noting that the distance between the farthest points is roughly 130 km (approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes by car), however all the activities are very accessible

Please Note: The municipality of Saint-Quentin is also located in Restigouche County; however, a separate activity guide was developed for the Restigouche West Region Given the proximity of Kedgwick Rural Community to SaintQuentin, the activities held within the Kedgwick Rural Community are listed in both guides The Restigouche West Activity Guide can be found at the following link:

A pow-wow is a large traditional gathering during which various indigenous communities reunite with family to pray, sing, dance and celebrate together.

Eel River Bar Pow Wow (Ugpi’ganjig)

The Eel River Bar Pow Wow is a celebration of First Nations culture and rich heritage. It is an opportunity to gather to sing and dance, visit each other, see old friends or make new ones, and admire or buy art and hand crafts on display.

Listuguj Annual Traditional Pow Wow

For the past 23 years, Listuguj has hosted a traditional Pow Wow. The Mi’gmaq community is very proud to organize a show featuring drumming, singing and dancing. Space is also provided for vendors of Indigenous crafts and food. For four days, a sacred fire is lit for prayers and spiritual ceremonies.

The traditional feast is the most appreciated meal of the year. The fishermen supply salmon for thousands of visitors to enjoy. The moose meat comes from families of hunters who continue to teach and share the forest bounty. Fiddleheads are picked weeks in advance by Mi’gmaq community members and shared with all attendees.

Popular Attraction in Restigouche

Campbellton is the home of the “world's largest salmon”, centuries of history and a world of natural wonders. Here, at the mouth of the Restigouche River, you'll find many adventures waiting for you.

A stroll along the city's waterfront is highlighted by Restigouche Sam, the 8.5-m tall Atlantic salmon - a shiny, larger-than-life stainless steel sculpture.

The spectacular monument honours the King of fish that in no small measure has contributed to the original settlement of this area.
