On June 11, Claire Babineaux-Fontenot Chief Executive Officer of Feeding America, visited the CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank to spend time learning about our operation and the organization as a whole. She engaged with staff who provided details of their connection with member agencies, volunteers, and those we serve Claire expressed deep concern for those who experience food insecurity and pride for food bank staff who work hard every day to help those in need.
Every year, June marks the start of Farmers Market season in Northeast Pennsylvania. Our Nutrition Educators set up stations where they can provide fun and informative nutrition lessons, and prepare a delicious sample made from prodcue available at the market
From June 5-19, Wegmans promoted their Fill the Bus campaign. Shoppers donated at the register, while staff interacted with families as they visited the store There were interactive games for children and chances o win gift cards for adults.
On June 14, local tv station WBRE/WYOU Eyewitness News kicked off the annual Hunger Free Summer Campaign in conjunction with Weis Markets. During the campaign members of the community are asked to donate non-perishable food items to the food bank It is anticipated that we will receive over 5,000 pounds of food at several Wei store locations.
Sheetz opened their newest store in Wyoming, PA on June 13 and presented a check to the food bank. Non-perishable food items were collected and donated to one of our partner agencies, the Wyoming United Presbyterian Church. The store will also provide regular food donations to this agency..
Congratulations to the newest graduating class of the Voices for Food Ambassador Training! Classes were held at the United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania Olive Street Food Pantry in Scranton, PA This training is available to all staff and volunteers of choice pantries.
On the United Way of Wyoming Valley Day of Caring last month, volunteer teams from Benco Dental, Fidelity Bank, SHINE After School Program of Luzerne County at Wilkes University, and WVIA participated .
We had an enormously energetic group from Penn East Federal Credit Union packing food boxes and sorting food drive items This team is absolutely amazing! Earlier this year, the financial institution hosted a food drive and gifted a generous donation. They have committed to volunteering again in the fall
