Please inquire at the me of enrollment, and during the course of training, for current fuel surcharges (when applicable).
CHOOSING YOUR FLIGHT TRAINING PATH UNDERSTANDING PART 141 versus PART 61 All flight training in the United States is conducted under either Part 141 or Part 61 which refers to the cer ficaon of pilots by the Federal Avia on Regula ons (FARs). There are also two types of flight training schools Part 61 schools which train only under Part 61 (and do not operate under FAA approval), and - Part 141 schools which have obtained specific approval to operate and conduct flight training under Part 141 of the FAR’s, in addi on to the basic Part 61 regula ons. The most common (and the least important) dis nc on between the two regula ons is the minimum flight me required for each course for which the school is approved.* The Private Pilot cer ficate requires 40 hours under Part 61 and 35 hours under Part 141. Considering that the na onal average for earning a Private Pilot cer ficate is 60 to 75 hours, this difference is minimal. However, as the student advances to the commercial level, the minimum requirement is substan al - 250 hours under Part 61 and 190 hours under Part 141. So, the ques on is - why would it ma er if you’re only training for a Private Pilot Cer ficate? Whether you are flying for a hobby or training for a career in avia on, selec ng a Part 141 School for your flight training is always your best choice. Approved schools are required to follow strict guidelines, offer organized and structured courses, and have accountability to the FAA. With an approved school, the choice of training under Part 61 is s ll available to the student allowing them more flexibility in the course with the added benefit of the school’s structure and accountability.

The Part 141 status becomes even more valuable when the school has a long standing record of successfully training under the FAA structure and guidelines. However, just because a school is Part 141 approved, it does not guarantee excellence. Choosing the most qualified and experienced school with an approved structure and accountability are the most important factors in a successful training experience. At Century Air, we take tremendous pride in having maintained our FAA Part 141 Approved status since 1986, and we have trained thousands of pilots under both Part 141 and Part 61 regula ons. Remember - your FAA issued pilot’s cer ficate looks the same whether you were trained under Part 141 or 61. It’s the quality of training that really ma ers! * Once a school is FAA approved, they also need to seek approval for each course. For the list of approved courses, see the school’s Air Agency Cer ficate.
