All teachers consider him a star student. When
the bell rings at 3:15, David rushes to the YMCA to coach two recreational classes. There, he helps kids, 10-12 years old, learn the basics of
mnastics. At 5:30, after
the students leave, David has three hours to work on his own routines to perfect them for competitions. He says "It just takes so much of your time, it can be really tough, but you just have to take the bad with the good." On the weekends, all of David's hard work finally pays off as he goes to competitons. His favorite is the Rockout Classic because the meet is relaxed and is a lot of fun to him. David claims, "boys should try gymanstics because it makes you a better overall athlete and will make you stand out." Gymnastics has helped David learn to manage his time, set goals, and work hard to achieve his best. Words : Laurie Jefferson Photography: David Brandyberry

When Diamond was in third grade, she took her first hair-braidin lesson from her mother. At first , it was just a hobby, but it quickly became more than that. After Diamond became more experienced , hair-braiding became something that Diamond could do to melt away her stress. She says, "I just start braiding, and I get really into it. I don 't even have to think about what I'm doing." With all of the stress that school brings, Diamond is very lucky to have a hobby that relaxes her. Now that Diamond has years of experience under her belt, her friends come flocking in to get an awesome new hairstyle. Her personal favorite is the Mohawk braid, but she also likes to do breakfronts and braided ponytails. Some braids take a lot more time than others do. A basic braid takes only about thirty minutes, but a complex braid, like the microweave, can take up to twelve hours! Diamond loves the practice though; she hopes to go to cosmetology school after she graduates, and the practice will
