CHARGERS REIGN

Beat Central week started off with "Carbash Day" on Tuesday September 2nd; Chargers took out their frustrations by bashing the Central Moron Car. Wednesday was "Mourn the Maroons" day. Students and faculty showed their grief for the upcoming Central massacre by wearing black. Twit day was Thursday, the annual event where students modeled the latest Central fashions. To wrap up the week, Chargers showed their support by wearing Centennial t-shirts and buttons. At 5:30 the Junior class Spaghetti dinner was held in the cafeteria. Seventhirty was kick-off time for the showdown between Centennial and our cross-town rivals. To top off the week Centennial conquered Central 21-18, for their second straight year.

CHARGERS PRESENT THEIR OF THE

"Hats off to Chargers" Wednesday, October 22, marked the first day of the 1980 Homecoming week. Thursday was t-shirt day and students showed their charger spirit by wearing their "Chargers, We are #1" tshirts. The day we had all been waiting for was Friday. The day started off with the mum delivery to students and teachers. The traditional Homecoming Assembly was definitely a success. The lancers and cheerleaders performed, Senior Girls Council presented their skit, Student Council organized a class competition, and the assembly closed with the formal announcement of the Homecoming Queen's court. Following the assembly was the parade which began on the south side of the school. The Varsity Show was held in the auditorium at 5:00, preceded the chili supper which was organized by Interserve and Interact. The moment of truth came between the Chargers and Decatur Eisenhower at 7:30. The Chargers fell to Eisenhower 31-6. Katie Gallivan was crowned Queen at half time. john McAuliffe was crowned King the following night at the Homecoming dance held in the Jefferson Building Saturday, October 25.

Their next victory came against the ironmen, as the Chargers prevailed to upset a tough Normal squad . Jacksonvill e was the next to fall to, the Chargers in a 42-6 rout. The juniors on the team closed th e season and the seniors finished their high school careers with a victory against Springfield Lanphier, a team which had been improving every game. The defense, a Charger trademark, was evident all season. The team played well the first half of the season, but a midseason injury to Mitch Hartman slowed the team for the rest of the season. Brian Martin and Mitch Hartman gained All-Conference honors, as they and other Seniors provided leadership on and off the field. The Juniors and Sophomores gained valuable experience and with summer weight training the Chargers hope to produce (!nother good season.

FACES Faces of old faces we knew People we know people we knew, Growing together and drifting apart Always an ending now a new start At graduation we all grow nearer And all of our friends seem so much dearer And as we say our last goodbye Our last embrace and one more cry A "Keep in touch" and a "Promise I will" A "Remember when" but better still A place in my heart, you'll always stay: That's what's said as we go our own way. JUNIORS HAVE A PROMISING FUTURE.

The Junior class has held many fund-raising projects this year for Prom. They have had car washes, bake sales, and a new event for Centennial, a spaghetti dinner before the Centennial vs. Central football game. The class of '82 won, for the first time, in the Homecoming float competition. The theme of the Juniors float was "Master Chargers, We've Got Clout." The Juniors also held the traditional magazine and Christmas candy cane sales, which went over well. Thanks to the help of many junior class members, Prom was a great success. The class of '82 is looking forward to a promising Senior year. A. Junior class officers and sponsors from left

IN MEMORY OF ... Into his life went we ... Into our lives came he ... And now, his absence is like The sky above, spread over everything! On the other side of death ... where time is not counted by years ... and there are no separations, we take solace in the following lines penned by Helen Steiner Rice: "All who believe in God's mercy and grace Will meet their loved ones face to face Where time is endless and joy unbroken And only the words of God's love are spoken." To the classmates, counselors, and teachers of Keith ... and to all others who shared his love and his joy of life ... we are grateful. John and Eunice Campbell (Keith's Parents) Karen and Kathy Campbell (Keith's Sisters) Keith Campbell

Friendship Lives Forever If I could have just one plea, I think that one prayer would be, With all that such a prayer portends"Lord make me worthy of my friends. Help me to be as true and fine As they believe - these fine friends of mine. Give me the courage under stress That they expect me to possess; And when they smile and look at me, Oh, let me be, Lord, what they see! Help me all pretense to forego And simply without pomp or show, Repay with true sincerity The loyal faith they had in me And if, sometimes, I may have erred In any thought or deed or word, Then help me, Lord, to make amendsLord, make me worthy of my friends." Helen Lowrie Marshall If I accept the sunshine and warmth, I must also accept the thunder and lightning. Gregory Moody

Keith L. Campbell, son of John and Eunice Campbell, and Gregory Moody, son of Robert and Maureen Moody, were killed in a tragic auto accident in August, 1980. Greg was a member of the Varsity Tennis team and Keith participated in the Centennial's Marching Band and Jazz Band. For those of us who knew them they will be missed and will always be remembered as a part of Centennial.
