Annex! Annek! Morons! Morons! Lou who? Just a few of the (printable) words thrown across the field when cross-town rivals Centennial and Central met at the beginning of football ¡ season . Every school has a rival, a team they get a feeling of satisfaction out of beating, that no other victory can give them. Centennial had that,

4 I FEATURE

and a few other feelings during their 30-20 romp over Central. The first of which was shock; as with only a few minutes ticked off the clock, Chargers were losing 14-0. Confidence came . when Quarterback Kreg Brown connected with End Jim Miller; the Chargers started to roll. They were

executing plays accurately, moving the ball, scoring points, and doing it all well. Then time ran out; the game was over. The Chargers had come back to win the last contest of the seventies. They were elated, proud, and finally satisfied.

Life in the 80's ...

More Challenging Than Before.

8 I FEATURE

With thermostats set at 65° F, writer 's cramp, formerly students no . 1 ailment, is on the decline and frostbite is rapidly moving to the front. Being able to see your breath in class is only interesting for the first few minutes. Admiring a girl friend's earrings only to discover that they are icicles can be frightening and when you can't hear the teacher above the chattering teeth, something m·ust be done. Obviously the situation hasn't reached these proportions but unless attitudes and habits are changed things could become critical. The beginning of a new decade could trigger the beginning of a new awareness of the energy situation. Today's high school students will be the adults of the future forced to deal with the problems of the oil situation. Right now students are already feeling the crunch with the high price of gasoline. The oil shortage may result in the popularity of biking, jogging, or even walking instead of driving .

The ''Spirit'' Arrives

The Thespian Playmakers presented the 1979 fall play, Blithe Spirit, on November 15 and 16. The unusually small cast included: Todd Manley as Charles, .Sarb Bryan as Ruth, Carolyn Kodes as Elvira, Liz Mort as Madame Arcati, Marilyn Rudnick as Edith, Terri Huelsbusch as Mrs. Bradman , and Peter Jessop as Dr. Bradman. The play was directed by Mr. Keith Page. The story takes place in England during the 1940's. It's about an author, Charles, who is writing a book about psychic phenomenon. During a seance held at Charles' house , Madame Arcati conjures up the spirit of Charles' first wife, Elvira. Elvira's presence causes many funny confrontations between Charles, Ruth, and Elvira.

Highlights of the season included victories over local rivals Central , Rantoul, and Urbana. Individually senior forward Myron Cockrell led the area class AA teams in scoring and rebounding throughout the season. But the Pressing Chargers were not a one-man team. They also received substantial help from guards Charles Williams, Ken Warmbier and James Henderson, forwards Elliot Terry and Sam Shelton and center John Tyree.
