If the hands of time were hands that I could hold,

I'd keep them warm and in my hands they'd not turn cold.

Hand in hand we'd choose the moments that should last,

Discipline Is Caring A

Pride and spirit are just two words used to express Centennial students' enthusiasm. Mr. Davis, our principal, was greatly impressed with the student involvement this year. Mr. Davis, Mr. Griggs, assistant principal, and our two deans, Mrs. Storch and Mr. Wiseman, have been successfu l in keeping our new four year high school system going. Increased attendance has made more work for all of the administration. To make sure you are in class where you should be, Mrs. Storch and Mr. Wiseman have been efficient. Mr. Griggs keeps the school activities calendar up to date and Mr. Davis sees to the successful overall operation. Our thanks should be given to our administration for all of their support and enthusiasm.

Lending A Helping Hand

When Senior year arrives many plans for the future must be made. College applications, grade point averages, class rank or just getting enough credits to graduate must be dealt with. The counselors are available with solid advice and good solutions to otherwise confusing situations. Schedule changes and other grading conflicts are dealt with daily by our counselors, and we should feel confident that we've got the best people interested in our educational futures.

Faster than a speeding bullet, more power than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Is it Super Man? No, it's Mark Neuman.

After losing 6 lettermen, the Striders lacked overall depth, in which to begin the season, Coach Fairchild was very pleased with the team's improvement throughout the season. Many of the Striders knocked minutes off their times. Coach Fairchild is looking forward to next year, when 14 of the Striders will be back, and he will only lose two to graduation.

Tim Broeren asks, "Where do you want this, Coach?"

Coach Tomilson and Fairchild anxiously await the results of the race.

Centennial Golfers Par Season

Terry McNamera shows his excellent technique as he uses the club to 'lift' the ball out of the trap.

The golf team managed to make an individual effort a team sport shooting the lowest total for nine holes and six men in the school's history. Some individual outstanding efforts put out by Terry MacNamara, who qualified for sectionals Eric Rebelin, who captured 4th in Conference and Jeff Dodson, who gained 7th at the Galesberg Tourney. Coach Nelson was pleased with his team's efforts finishing with a 6-3-1 record and hopes for a succ~ssful season next year. Jeff Dodson chases the ball to the hole with wary eyes.

The 1978 Varsi ly Football team proved to be truly exciting. With such talent on this year's team the long, hard August double-sessions paid off. "Improve week by week" as Coach Davis said many a limes during the season is exactly what the team did. As the tradition has been all through the years at Centennial, Coach Davis and 111S coaching staff did an excellent job in coaching the talent the guys had this year. With a 7-2 record of which Centennial is very proud and just one touchdow n away from the play-offs, the Chargers produced seven all-conference players; Mark Hartman, the only Charger named both offense and defense, Brian Vizek, John Clark, Tim Millage, Jim Miller and Mike Carroll, who was only 5 yds. away from t he 1000 yard mark in rushing, which placed him 1st in the school's rushing history for a junior. Jim Button also made the all-conference second team. Placing on the All-State team is a great honor. Mike Carroll was named on t he second team and Mark Hartman, Jim Miller, and Tim Millage were named Honorable Mention. Congratulations guys; Centennial is very proud of you!

Tony Marcott takes a moment to catch his breath before returning to t he 'grid iron'!

Coach Macek knows he can trust Mark Hartman to carry out a special assignment.

"Leaders of t he pack!"

A pre-game huddle builds ent husiasm, enough to last throughout the game.

The first year at being the Varsity Basketball coach is full of hard work and many hours. Coach Carrodine put in these hours and hard work getting his team in shape. Nicknaming his team "The Pressing Chargers," Coach Carrodine's strategy for the season was the full court press. With the full court press, there was never a dull moment. This strategy kept the opponents off balance and never let them take a breather. The long hours of practice and running paid off for the '78'79 "Pressing Chargers." Centennial is proud of these athletes and .wishes them luck in future seasons.

Homecoming week is an inspiration to all students for participation in Charger spirit. The Pep Club has that responsibility all through the year. The annual chili supper and sponsoring the fan buses for away games is only part of their activities. The Pep Club started an information bulletin board, located outside the athletic office; the bulletin board is a helpful reminder of upcoming sports events and school activities. Attendance at the Pep Club meetings is high and their presence IS known at all school games.

Conservation

Club Nature hikes and similar kinds of field trips were common practice for conservation club members. One such "Field trip" was to Devil's Lake, Wisconsin, for cross country skiing. The Conservation Club's endangered species for the year was the wolf. The club had T-shirts made up with a wolf on the front. With the help of our Student Council the Conservation Club sponsored Earth Week, and the highlight of the year the all-school paper-drive which lasted the second semester.

Homecoming activities were exciting and each student was involved with the spirit of the upcoming game. The Annual National Honor Society Bonfire was held the night preceding the game. The rock group of Centennial's own students "Sphinx" was the highlight of the evening. The day of Homecoming, mums were distributed by the band members as a way for the student population to send Homecoming greetings to their friends and acquaintances. The Student Council held an intense assembly, past Homecoming kings of Centennial and past cheerleaders came to help keep the spirit of Homecoming high. The candidates for Homecoming queen were presented with their escorts, and the Senior Girls Council (Interserve) performed a skit. After school, the floats were judged in their respective class competition and the Seniors proudJy took first place. Decorated cars, bikes and floats all took their positions, and the Homecoming parade was underway and a large success. The Pep Club Chili Supper was held after the Varsity Show and then the game we all had anticipated was nearing. The Chargers were renowned in their performance on the field and the game was a spirited success. At halftime DeDe Fileccia was crowned as Homecoming Queen by Melonie Ignasiak, '77 -'78 queen. The Homecoming Dance ended the week of activities and it too was a success. Mark Hartman reigned as our Homecoming King. And when completed, the excitement of the week lingered on to be remembered by all those participating in Homecoming activities. 104

Seniors Make It To The Top As the year draws to a close there are different att itudes taken by seniors. One of happiness, gett ing away from teachers, homework and finals. But for some it is a feeling of sad ness, leav ing the place where they ha \ ¡e spent three years; separating from fri e nds and looking on to the future. ¡ The long hard hours working on the Hom eco ming fl oat finally paid off with a first place. As the seniors flip their tassles at graduation, Ce ntennial will lose a fine group of students and people. Good Luck to the Class of '79.

JUNIORS

145

Juniors Spark The Chargers Spirit The class of '80 has been a busy class of students. Their efforts in fund raising projects have been dominate. Money from magazine sales and candy cane sales have all been directed towards the big Junior project - Prom. This year the class of '80 produced an "exciting and different" kind of Prom. We want to recognize the Junior class as a strong group of students who want to get things done.

Front: Todd Manley- vice president. Back: Mark Neuman- treasurer, Mrs. Davissponsor, RoseAnne Forrester - secretary, Nancy Cleland.

The Junior class gets involved in Homecoming with their "Electrocute Eisenhower" float.
