TIME FOR SOME SPRING CLEANING As the weather warms and the days grow longer, now is the perfect time for spring cleaning. This time-honored ritual is a great way to prepare your home and life for the coming season. We asked some of Centreville’s professional cleaning services to share their expertise on this important annual custom. Housekeeping Services by Melissa Lord owner says “Spring is a good time to tackle some of your cleaning projects! We love cleaning all the winter dirt off of windows and in the window tracks in the spring just in time to open your windows for the beautiful weather. If you haven’t kept up with cleaning ceiling fans, now is a great time to do that. With the warmer weather, we all enjoy being outside more so use this time before it gets too hot to organize and sweep out your garage.”

Angie Marsh, owner of Affordable Cleaning, thinks that “the key to spring cleaning is decluttering first. Be ruthless when it comes to decluttering if you don’t love it, and/or you don’t use it, it’s clutter! If you have items that you don’t use, but are in good condition they are prime candidates to sell or donate. Don’t forget about the insides. It’s important to clean and organize things that are in sight all of the time. But, it’s also important to remember those items that are out of sight. Spring is a great season to organize your closets, cabinets, drawers, bins, boxes, pantry and other inside storage areas.”

If you don’t have time for a deep clean Melissa Lord suggests homeowners “clean anything that sparkles or shines! Windex mirrors, faucets, windows, glass top tables. Make beds to create a clean looking room within only a few minutes. Fold blankets on your couch and straighten pillows. You can create the illusion of clean by actually being tidy!”

For time-crunched homeowners, Angie Marsh recommends that you “Take a quick ‘clean sweep’ through the house. Start upstairs work your way down. Make the beds, empty all the trash, quick vacuum, quick wipe down of the bathrooms. Really the key is using the proper tools when cleaning and organizing, it’s important to use tools that help you get the job done as quickly as possible.”

Of course the cleaning experts have their special tricks of the trade.

Angie Marsh says “Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Bath Scrubber works great in the bathroom!” Angie also suggests homeowners “keep Lysol wipes in the cabinet in the bathroom so you can do a quick wipe of the bathroom surfaces, keep a vacuum upstairs and downstairs, keep extra trash bags in the trashcans so when you empty it you can quickly replace it.” Melissa Lord thinks that “Swiffer dusters are great for doing a quick dust! Buy the extender handle and you can easily reach cobwebs and baseboards!”
