Co-owners Bob and Niki Pino have been in the business for 38 years. Sherri Baton has been with the team for almost 11 years and LaneAnn Vanderlinden has been here for six years. Rounding out the staff at An Optical Galleria are Steven P. Schwartz, O.D., and Mary Kathleen Hutton, O.D. Bob shares his insights on the important role between eyesight and learning. He recommends that all children have an eye examination by age four at the latest. The optometrist at An Optical Galleria will “assess the child’s eye health to detect disease or structural problems.” The optometrist can evaluate visual development and eye teamwork skills to “ensure good binocularity, depth perception, and rule out “lazy eye” problems.” The optometrist performs a refraction to ensure good clarity of vision with proper focusing. Seeing clearly (“20/20”) is just one of many visual skills critical to academic success,” Bob says. It may be difficult to tell if your children have vision problems, after all, they may think the way they see is normal. Bob Pino suggests parents be on the lookout for behaviors such as squinting to see things far away, avoiding reading, skipping or rereading lines, preferring to be read to, losing their place when reading, and having headaches and trouble seeing the board.
