It’s a two day family-friendly festival of invention and creativity, bringing together over 300 hackers, crafters, coders, DIYers and garden shed inventors from across the globe - people who love to make stuff and who want to share their passion with the public. At Maker Faire UK, you can explore and create with the Makers and enjoy playful installations, drop-in workshops and fascinating speakers. A headline Maker: Philip K. Dick Android Science-fiction writer Philip K. Dick died in 1982 - but that won’t stop him coming to Life! Built by Hanson Robotics, using the latest artificial intelligence technology, this android is at the cutting edge of robotic technology. ‘Philip’ comes complete with hair, teeth and wrinkles. He can raise an eyebrow, smile and engage in conversation. This is one of the most advanced cognitive artificial intelligence projects in the world - and ‘Philip’ knows it!

Workshops Learn how to solder and make all kinds of amazing creations in hands-on workshops. Additional charges may apply.

Talks and Perfomances Be inspired by maker musicians, artists and incredible speakers including Cory Doctorow (editor of Boing Boing), Mitch Altman (hacker and inventor of TV-B-Gone) and Sarah Angliss (composer, performer and sound historian).

We recommend that you buy tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. Family tickets are for 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children (under 2s come free). Only a limited number of weekend tickets are available. Life Annual Pass holders are eligible to a 10% discount on tickets. As there’s so much going on at Maker Faire UK, Life Science Centre won’t be offering its usual programme. There will also be changes to our usual café menus and the packed lunch area will not be available. This event may not be suitable for very young children - we’re expecting big crowds and many of the craft activities will involve scissors, sharp implements and small components. You know your children best - all ages are welcome.
