Third Sunday of Advent (Blue)

Prayer Focus: Joy

Welcome to worship at Central!

In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to worship at Central where it is our mission to follow Jesus by loving God and loving our neighbors. Our clergy, Rev. Thomas Smith, Rev. Dr. Ann Kovan, and Rev. Meg Jiunnies, are grateful you’ve chosen to make Central a part of your day today. If it is your first time worshiping with us, please visit the rear Greeters Table and fill out a Connect Card where you will receive a gift from the church. Once again, welcome!

Sermon Note

John brings strong words, but he is speaking to skeptics who came out to the wilderness to see the “crazy” prophet. He reminds us what we are called to do in this in-between time. He calls us to honor God with the way we live our lives. For example, he doesn’t tell the tax collectors to quit their jobs, but to be honest in their dealings. This time of year, we have a tendency to be more charitable, but John reminds us that right-living is not associated with Christmas nostalgia. Rather, it is how we are to live our lives all year long.
