November 17, 2024 Twenty-sixth Sunday after Pentecost (Green) Prayer Focus: Restoration and Healing Welcome to worship at Central! In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to worship at Central where it is our mission to follow Jesus by loving God and loving our neighbors. Our clergy, Rev. Thomas Smith, Rev. Dr. Ann Kovan, and Rev. Meg Jiunnies, are grateful you’ve chosen to make Central a part of your day today. If it is your first time worshiping with us, please visit the rear Greeters Table and fill out a Connect Card where you will receive a gift from the church. Once again, welcome!
Sermon Note As disciples who follow Jesus, we have claimed for ourselves the faith in unmerited forgiveness and the hope that we will grow in perfect love; therefore, we have the task of responding. What does it mean to “provoke” one another to love and good deeds? Do we irritate one another into seeing things our way? Do we insist on others responding to God the way we imagine they should? Or, even more exasperating, do we choose to be in community with those whom we disagree with? Perhaps instead of finding ways of either convincing others about our notion of discipleship or seeking a like-minded community, we need to open ourselves to understanding different perspectives. How are we to respond to these words of Scripture?
Vocal Recital November 20 Join us on Wednesday, November 20, for a vocal recital featuring two of our Lacy Choral Scholars, Ashlei Jones and Dianna Wilson, accompanied by Dr. Don Grice. The recital will be held in the sanctuary at 6:15 PM and will include such beloved pieces as “I Waited for the Lord” by Felix Mendelssohn and “The King of Love My Shepherd Is” by Harry Rowe Shelley.
