The Central Otago District Council’s purpose is to enable democratic local decision making to meet the current and future needs of communities for good-quality local infrastructure, local public services, and performance of regulatory functions in a way that is most cost-effective for households and businesses of Central Otago. Council’s roles include: • Providing leadership for the district • Providing sustainable management of the local infrastructure, Including network infrastructure (e.g. roads, sewage disposal, water, stormwater) and community infrastructure (libraries and community facilities) • Planning for the future needs of the district – this includes protecting and strengthening our Regional Identity • Supporting local communities to achieve their community’s aspiration • Environmental management
