ABOUT Us

Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) is the lead economic and tourism development agency for the Central Highlands in Queensland, Australia. For more than 25 years, CHDC has partnered with industry, business, government, and communities to drive growth and empower businesses.

Our rich understanding of the local economic landscape has allowed us to deliver insights and strategic action plans for the region. In turn, this has contributed to building strong, capable businesses and industries that are supply-chain ready and optimised for expansion.

BUSINESS GROWTH ⁘ Engaged with over 230 businesses during the 2023 Central Highlands Business Excellence Awards. ⁘ Facilitated 10 business development workshops, attracting 97 attendees. ⁘ Held nine business networking events across Emerald, Tieri, Springsure, and Blackwater.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

ADVOCACY AND PROMOTION

⁘ Revamped the Jobs Hub Central Queensland Highlands website, contributing to an 83 percent surge in job views.

⁘ Hosted the seventh Farm to Fine Dining event, attended by 73 industry and government representatives.

⁘ Supported the Future Skills Facilitator Study, examining the coordination of industry-relevant vocational education.

⁘ Discussed economic trends and regional skills solutions with over 70 attendees at the 2023 Economic Futures Forum.

⁘ Reached an average of 12,900 social media users per month. ⁘ Welcomed members of Tourism & Events Queensland, Queensland Tourism Industry Council and Qantas for an introduction to the region’s newly aligned Regional Tourism Organisation Queensland Country Tourism. ⁘ Rebranding of CHDC’s logo and styling guidelines as well as a refresh to the CHDC website.

INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT ⁘ Entered Rubyvale in the 2023 Queensland Top Tourism Town Awards, where it secured a finalist position. ⁘ Welcomed 18,321 visitors through the Central Queensland Highlands (Emerald), Duaringa, Blackwater, and Springsure Visitor Information Centres. ⁘ Surveyed local agribusinesses on their key priorities and challenges to inform future programs of work. ⁘ Attracted over 70 attendees to the popular 2023 Resources & Innovation Forum.

INVESTMENT ATTRACTION

STRATEGY AND PLANNING

⁘ Provided support and assistance to prospective investors, including impact modelling and industry introductions.

⁘ Adopted the 20232028 Corporate Strategy, providing a clear direction forward for CHDC.

⁘ Released the 2022-23 Major Projects report, highlighting almost 30 projects with a combined value of $3 billion.

⁘ Completed the 2023-28 Action Plan of the 2047 Central Highlands Economic Master Plan.

⁘ Provided support for investment projects such as Yamala Enterprise Area Water Infrastructure, CQ Inland Port, Emerald Robotics Tech Park, Oil Seed Crushing Facility and Bowen Basin Gas Pipeline.

⁘ Actively supported the CHRC site vision, precinct plan and business case for the former Emerald Ag College.

⁘ Delivered Bowen Basin Hub secretariat support for CRC-TIME and its work in mining economy transitions.
