LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

This year has been a powerful example of planting seeds and harvesting opportunity at Central Community College Foundation. From the launch of major projects to the growth of community partnerships, we’ve seen how planning, generosity, and teamwork create lasting impact for Central Community College (CCC) students. In April 2024, fundraising began for the Automotive Careers Training Center on the Hastings campus. With the vision of a dedicated volunteer Executive Leadership Team, our funding goal was achieved—and in May 2025, we proudly broke ground on a facility that will prepare future technicians and industry leaders for years to come. In December, our Columbus community enjoyed Sounds of the Season, a vocal and instrumental concert showcasing CCC’s talented music students. Donors were treated to the rich tones of the campus’ new Steinway piano, purchased in part through their generosity. This year also marked the beginning of a six-month strategic planning process. Guided by the Callahan Collaborative of Washington and Nebraska, our board will work toward clear, actionable goals to strengthen the Foundation’s reach. A two-day board retreat is scheduled for November, ensuring the seeds we plant today will grow into a strong, sustainable future. In June, we welcomed Bob Hausmann as our new development officer in Columbus. His role will focus on cultivating fundraising efforts, building partnerships, and fostering community ownership of CCC’s mission.

We also celebrated the careers of two valued team members. After 30 years of service, Pat Stange retired on August 4. In June, planned giving director Dean Moors concluded his part-time role, having advanced our Generations of Impact campaign to 60% of its ambitious $25 million goal—a seed that will continue to grow in the capable hands of our staff. I would be remiss not to acknowledge the exceptional leadership of Executive Director Traci Skalberg, whose vision and dedication have kept the Foundation moving forward with purpose and momentum. Together—with our donors, partners, and community— we are planting seeds that will yield opportunities for generations of CCC students.

LEGACY SOCIETY

The Legacy Society allows the donor to leave a gift in the form of a bequest naming Central Community College Foundation as a beneficiary in his or her will. This can be done by a percentage of/or a fixed amount of the estate. Other methods of donating to the Legacy Society include life insurance policies or other planned giving programs. Employer Matching Gifts Double your impact through employer matching programs. Many companies will match charitable contributions—check with your HR department to see if your gift qualifies. IRA Charitable Rollover If you’re 70½ or older, you can transfer up to $108,000 directly from your IRA to the CCC Foundation. This Qualified Charitable Distribution can satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you are at least 73 years old without increasing your taxable income.

PAT STANGE RETIRES

The Gardener of Opportunity Celebrating Pat Stange’s 30-Year Harvest Not every gardener works with soil. Some cultivate spreadsheets, deadlines, and donor dreams. For 30 years, Pat Stange has been that gardener for the CCC Foundation—quietly, diligently tending the processes that turn gifts into opportunities. Behind every scholarship awarded is more than a generous donor; there’s also someone ensuring that the promise becomes reality. Pat has been that person— planting seeds through her meticulous work and watching a harvest of hope transform the lives of thousands of CCC students. Her impact is staggering: $23,618,102 in scholarships processed over her career. Read that again—more than $23 million invested in students of central Nebraska, each dollar carefully shepherded from donor intent to student need. Pat’s work has never been flashy, but it has been essential. She managed the systems, tracked the details, and kept everything running smoothly so that legacy funds could thrive and students could flourish. In doing so, she turned the Foundation office into a garden of opportunity, where every scholarship represented a seed of possibility. Pat officially retired in August 2025, but like any gardener who loves the work, she hasn’t completely put down her tools. Today, Pat continues part time with the Foundation, processing some scholarships and taking on special projects that keep her connected to the mission she has nurtured for decades. To Pat, we say thank you—for every detail tended, every challenge solved, and every student whose life changed because you made sure the promise of a scholarship became reality. Your dedication has planted seeds that will keep growing long after this season.

WARREN AND VELDA WILSON FOUNDATION

Legacy Continues: Planting Seeds. Harvesting Opportunity. For more than 60 years, Warren and Velda Wilson worked the soil of south-central Nebraska. Farming provided them with a prosperous life, but what truly mattered to the Wilsons was the future of the young people growing up in the small towns and rural communities around them. They believed education was the key to a brighter tomorrow—for individuals and for the region they loved. With no children of their own, the Wilsons made a decision that would plant seeds of opportunity for generations to come. Before Warren’s passing in 1997 and Velda’s in 2002, they established the Warren & Velda Wilson Foundation in 1990 with one purpose: to provide college scholarships for students from central and south-central Nebraska. Growing a Vision In a 1992 letter to John Farrell, President of the Wilson Foundation and longtime CCC Foundation board member, the Wilsons expressed their desire to support students through education. For several years, the Wilson Foundation managed its own scholarship program, but by the early 2000s, the board recognized the need for a more structured process to fully utilize available funds. John Farrell turned to the CCC Foundation. After reviewing CCC Foundation’s scholarship program, the Wilson Foundation board voted to contract with CCC Foundation beginning in the fall of 2002. This partnership ensured that the Wilsons’ vision would reach more students than ever before. Scholarship Impact Applicants must live and attend high school in one of the counties originally designated by the Wilsons: Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Hall, Hamilton, Nuckolls, Thayer, Webster, and York. In 2018, Phelps County was added, reflecting the counties from which the Wilsons built their success.

Unlike many scholarships, the Wilson awards are not based on academics alone. The Wilsons valued citizenship, community involvement, and potential—qualities that build strong leaders and neighbors. The first scholarships under CCC Foundation’s coordination were awarded in spring 2003: $200,000 to 200 students across nine counties. Since then, more than $8 million has been awarded to over 7,000 students. Each award represents a seed planted—a chance for a student to grow, thrive, and contribute to their community. Ensuring a Lasting Legacy In 2011, the Wilson Foundation board began planning for the future to meet IRS requirements for private foundations. Rather than sell land that sustained their mission, the board worked with CCC Foundation to convert the Wilson Foundation to a supporting organization under the CCC Foundation’s 501(c)(3) status. That process was completed in 2019, guaranteeing that the Wilsons’ legacy will continue in perpetuity. Today, John Farrell, who served as President of the Wilson Foundation board for 32 years, has passed the torch to new leadership while remaining an active board member. Other board members include Jay Landell (President), Jennifer Fleischer, Lu Loehr (the Wilsons’ niece), Scott Kummer, and Brian Shaw. The land Warren and Velda once farmed still contributes to their mission through the hands of local farmers, some of whom were scholarship recipients themselves. It’s a fullcircle story—rooted in generosity, cultivated through partnerships, and producing a harvest of opportunity for generations of students. The Wilsons planted more than crops. They planted hope. And every year, the harvest grows stronger. 2024-25 Annual Report | 11

Grand Island Community & Alumni Appreciation Central Community College and the CCC Foundation hosted a Community & Alumni Celebration at the Grand Island Campus, bringing together community partners, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the college. Held on April 26, the event featured hands-on demonstrations, interactive activities, and a complimentary lunch while showcasing new campus additions and highlighting CCC’s strong community connections. AUTOMOTIVE CAREERS TRAINING CENTER

Driving the Present SHIFTING THE FUTURE Groundbreaking the New Automotive Careers Training Center at CCC On a cold, windy morning in May 2025, supporters gathered at CCC’s Hastings Campus to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Automotive Careers Training Center. The rain held off just long enough, and while the breeze made eyes water, spirits ran high. This wasn’t just about turning soil—it was about planting seeds of opportunity for generations of students to come. For nearly 60 years, CCC has trained technicians for Nebraska’s automotive industry. But the program’s original 1943 building could no longer keep pace with modern technology. The new 42,000-square-foot facility—CCC’s largest capital project in its five-year master plan—will provide cutting-edge labs, classrooms, and equipment to prepare students to service the vehicles of the future.

This $23 million project is made possible by a blend of federal funds, college resources, and private gifts. Thanks to nearly 100 generous donors and a powerhouse Executive Leadership Team, the CCC Foundation has already surpassed its $3.5 million campaign goal—fueling scholarships and longterm program support in addition to construction costs. One of the most memorable voices of the day was current student Toby Stepanek, who without notes, spoke confidently and earnestly about his dreams and the doors this project will open for students like him. Industry leader Brian Levander, Owner and CEO of Levander’s Automotive and member of the Executive Leadership Team, echoed that urgency in his remarks:

“The automotive industry is evolving fast—technology is changing how we diagnose problems, how we repair vehicles, and how we serve our customers. But with all that change, there’s one thing we consistently struggle with: a skilled workforce. We don’t just need people who can turn a wrench. We need sharp minds—technicians who understand electronics, diagnostics, customer service, and who are ready to be the next generation of leaders. That’s what this center will do. It will equip, inspire, and empower.” Levander also reminded the crowd that the project is about more than bricks and mortar. “This center is more than a building. It’s a commitment—to our students, to our economy, and to the long-term success of this region. We believe in what we’re building together— literally and figuratively.”

He praised CCC’s history of listening, adapting, and producing graduates ready to work, and thanked donors for their belief in the vision: “Your generosity is more than dollars—it’s belief in our shared future. Thank you for seeing the value in this mission and making it real.” The groundbreaking moment itself carried special symbolism. Alumni from CCC’s earliest automotive programs stood shoulder-to-shoulder with today’s students, faculty, industry partners, and community leaders. In shifts, they all turned the soil with golden shovels—linking the program’s proud past with its bold future. This groundbreaking planted more than a building—it planted a promise: to drive the present, shift the future, and harvest opportunity for years to come.

CCC STUDENT SUPPORT Supporting students at CCC goes beyond scholarships. The Foundation manages several funds designed to provide critical support to both students and college programs. A Standing Ovation: The Averetts’ Lifelong Impact on Theatre and Education For the Averett family, Central Community College isn’t just a place of learning, it’s a second home, a launchpad for careers and the stage on which countless family memories were made. In 1970, after earning his master’s degree in theatre from Idaho State University, Dick Averett became the first theatre instructor at what was then Platte Junior College in Columbus. It was the beginning of a remarkable 30-year teaching career and a family legacy still alive today. A Calling, Not Just a Career To Dick Averett, theatre and teaching weren’t jobs. They were a calling. His passion for the arts was deeply ingrained in him, and that passion shaped not only his professional path but also the rhythm of life for the entire Averett household. “Dad felt incredibly fortunate that his passion for teaching and the arts also served to honor his commitments as a husband, father, and provider,” shared one of his children. “The only performance he ever missed was the night our youngest sibling was born.”

Whether mentoring students just out of high school or inspiring non-traditional learners, Dick left a lasting mark. Former students still share how his impact as a teacher and mentor shaped their lives. Several went on to become theatre educators. Others, like actress Marg Helgenberger, actor Joe Kreissinger, and Omaha Community Playhouse contributors Don Hook and Darren Kuehler, found their way into the spotlight. Growing Up Backstage With five children Tami, Miki, Suzi, Gigi, and Cris it’s no surprise the Averett household became an extension of the college theatre. “We literally grew up in the college theatre,” the family recalled. “We played there while Dad and Mom built sets. We were recruited to paint, clean, and sweep. Later, we graduated to more important tasks like washing out paintbrushes and helping run shows.” PBS shows like Masterpiece Theatre and Boston Pops were staples in their home. A John Philip Sousa march could bring a tear to their eyes. The arts were not an extracurricular they were a way of life. Five Paths, One Foundation Each Averett sibling attended CCC, and all recall their time there as formative. Tami appreciated the daily commute with her dad, coffee from the Happy Chef in hand. Miki experienced her dad as both instructor and advisor and felt proud to say, “That’s my dad.” Suzi earned college credit while still in high school, joined Delta Sigma Phi, and remembers how simply showing up to

her dad’s Speech class earned her and her classmates ten bonus points. Gigi immersed herself in Student Senate and, after raising a family and working for decades, returned to school to complete her degree in 2022. Cris gained a new respect for his father’s work by walking CCC’s halls from a student’s point of view. The Averett legacy doesn’t stop there. Miki’s four children also graduated from CCC, extending the family’s connection across generations. Barbara Averett: Lifelong Learner The Averett legacy isn’t just Dick’s. Barbara Averett, Dick’s wife, returned to school later in life. After focusing on raising five children, she enrolled at CCC alongside two of her daughters and earned her associate degree in 1984. She transferred to Wayne State College and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in language arts. She went on to teach students with behavioral disabilities at Columbus High School until retirement. Barbara had always dreamed of becoming a teacher. “She felt like she had left something undone,” her children shared. “And Dad said, ‘We’re going to support her in her goal.” Known for her love of books and history, Barbara could “climb into a book” and live inside the characters’ worlds. She brought that same imagination and warmth to everything she did judging the Platte County Spelling Bee, dressing up for downtown trick-or-treating, or bringing joy to her Red Hat Club friends. In 2015, Barbara delivered CCC’s commencement address and received two standing ovations. Her children recalled sitting with “optimistic anxiety,” wondering what she would say without a script. “Would she sing? Tell knockknock jokes?” Instead, she opened her heart and spoke to graduates about viewing commencement as a beginning, not an end. It perfectly captured the Averett family’s relationship with CCC. More Than a Family Affair Perhaps no memory captures the family’s bond with the stage better than the 1980 CCC summer production of Carousel, when all seven Averetts; Dick, Barbara, Tami, Miki, Suzi, Gigi, and Cris shared the stage. Decades later, the family reunited

for a Platte Valley Playhouse production of Clue, directed by Suzi, with Gigi, Cris, and Miki on stage. Tami, who now lives out of state, appeared in a photograph a quiet but meaningful cameo. The set even featured a hidden photo from their Carousel days. Over the years, Dick directed nearly two decades of CCC summer musicals, acted in productions like Inherit the Wind, and helped bring Children’s Theatre to small Nebraska schools. He was even named Best Actor by the National Association of Community Theatres. Barbara remained equally involved volunteering for Odyssey of the Mind, assisting with speech competitions, and supporting local theatre for more than 50 years. It was only fitting that Dick’s memorial service, his final curtain call was held in the CCC theatre. Carrying the Torch Today, the Averett name lives on through the Averett Family Scholarship, created to fuel artistic exploration and support future CCC students. The family also sponsored seats in Section F of the theatre look for “Master Caster” and “Drama Mama.” “We know our story will fade with time,” the family shared. “But we hope the seeds of knowledge, appreciation for live theatre, and artistic expression will continue to flourish.”

“As a faculty member at Central Community College, my decision to donate to our college foundation isn’t just professional—it’s deeply personal. Several years ago, I walked similar hallways at another community college not as an instructor, but as a single parent returning to school, carrying hopes, fears, and the weight of responsibility for both my future and my child’s. I quickly learned that the old saying “it takes a village to raise a child” was true, but I discovered something even more profound: sometimes it takes a universe to help parents transform their lives while bettering themselves. The foundation’s support programs at that time didn’t just help me academically—they provided childcare assistance when I needed to study late, emergency funds when unexpected expenses threatened to derail my education, and textbook vouchers that meant the difference between buying groceries and buying required materials. The staff didn’t just see me as another student; they saw me as a whole person with complex needs and real challenges.

34th Annual Pro-Am Golf Tournament The 34th Annual CCC Foundation Pro-Am Golf Tournament was held on September 16, 2024, at Lochland Club in Hastings, Nebraska. The event successfully raised $25,000 for scholarships benefiting students of CCC. The CCC Foundation hosted 28 amateur teams, totaling 112 participants. A Pro format was used, with five professionals stationed at various tee boxes. Teams had the option to use the Pro’s shot at these holes. Participating Pros included Caleb Malenke (Quarry Oaks - Ashland), Ryan Douglas (Lochland Country Club - Hastings), Devon Bell (Awarii Dunes, Kearney), Brain Fauss and Caleb Badura (Riverside Country Club, Grand Island). SHOTGUN SPORTS TAKES AIM

Planting the Seeds of a New Tradition: Shotgun Sports Takes Aim at Opportunity It started with a conversation in the fall of 2023. Hastings Campus President Dr. Chris Waddle met with a small group of supporters to explore an idea that would bring new energy—and new students— to Central Community College: a Shotgun Sports program.

The impact of this new program is expected to be substantial:

The vision was bold yet rooted in a simple idea— build on the existing passion for shooting sports in Nebraska and offer student-athletes an opportunity to compete at the collegiate level while earning their degree. Under the guidance of Columbus Campus President Dr. Kathy Fuchser and Athletic Director Mary Young, plans began to take shape.

Community connections: Strengthen relationships with high school shooting teams, 4-H clubs, coaches, alumni, and community supporters.

Mary Young set the first target: form a squad of 10 student-athletes, two full teams, by the program’s launch. Future growth would allow for up to 20 squad members, including walk-on opportunities. But the goals for Shotgun Sports reach far beyond the field.

Recruitment and retention: Increase full-time enrollment by 20 FTE by year four and retain current students who share a passion for the sport.

Academic success: Student-athletes will meet eligibility requirements and maintain academic progress, boosting persistence and completion. Workforce growth: Expand the STEM-based workforce pipeline through CCC graduates who participate in Shooting Sports. With strong community interest, the CCC Foundation launched a fundraising campaign in summer 2024 with a goal of $50,000. The support was immediate and enthusiastic. Eight (8) generous donors stepped forward as Founders with gifts of $5,000 or more. Additional donors rounded out the total to $45,000.

Columbus Community Appreciation

On June 10, 2024, CCC hired Coach Michael Saint, who now leads the squad with an eye toward excellence on the range and in the classroom. The squad gave donors and supporters an update on the inaugural season and shared future plans at a special event in August 2025, when the final founder-level gift was celebrated bringing the total to $52,000. The seeds planted last year are already taking root. The year four target of fielding a squad of 20 athletes has already been met…in year two! What began as an idea has grown into a program that enriches the student experience, builds community partnerships, and provides new opportunities for success. As CCC’s Shotgun Sports team takes aim at the future, the harvest is clear—stronger students, stronger connections, and stronger communities.

Central Community College and the CCC Foundation hosted a Community Appreciation Event on Wednesday, February 5, at the Columbus Innovation Center. Community members gathered for an evening of connection and celebration with CCC faculty, students, and staff. The event served as a heartfelt thank-you to the community for its ongoing support of the college and its mission to maximize student and community success. Guests had the opportunity to learn more about CCC’s initiatives, explore innovative programs, and engage in meaningful conversations that strengthen the bond between the college and the communities it serves.

CCC PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Dear Friends of Central Community College, Planting Seeds. Harvesting Opportunities. This year, as we reflect on the power of partnership and purpose, that simple phrase reminds us of who we are—and who we can be together. Raised on a ranch in Atkinson, Nebraska and my first teaching job as an agriculture instructor at CCC, I know first-hand the importance of investing in our natural resources of water, land, air and most importantly people. I have seen the tragedy of neglect and abandonment if resources are not cared for and the life and productivity when positive inputs are applied. Through our decades-long collaboration with the Central Community College Foundation, our generous donors, and the communities we serve across our 25-county region, we are planting the seeds of education—and harvesting life-changing opportunities. Investing in our students isn’t just smart—it’s essential infrastructure for our communities’ future. In the 2023–24 academic year, CCC awarded 2,842 degrees, diplomas, and certificates to 1,608 individual students. An encouraging 98 percent of our graduates report accomplished their educational goals or are continued their education—and a full 96 percent of employers report being satisfied or very satisfied with the preparation CCC provides. Our combined college awards are the largest of any other Nebraska community college and rank fourth in the state behind UNL, UNO and Bellevue University. Nebraska Department of Labor records show over 90% of our graduates working full-time do so within our twenty-five county service area. This showing our impact in providing a workforce in areas like advanced manufacturing, mechatronics, business, nursing, dental hygiene, automotive, diesel, construction and heavy equipment. Graduates ranged in age from 16 to 72, showing our breadth of impact regardless of age. These aren’t just numbers—they’re livelihoods supported, families strengthened, and local economies energized. They underscore a simple truth: when you invest in our students, you seed a future of stability, growth, and prosperity for every corner of our region. That is why our partnership with the CCC Foundation and our donors is so vital. Together, we ensure that scholarships, programs, and supports are more than promises—they are pathways to opportunity.
