CBC Extends Veteran Tuition Discount
C
ENTRAL BAPTIST COLLEGE IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE A SPECIAL Veteran Tuition Discount for retirees and veterans of the armed forces. All veterans, active duty, guard or reserve members of the military who are receiving service-related benefits are eligible for the tuition discount. The discount will waive the remaining tuition for most military service men and women in both the online and traditional programs. The previous discount was only available for those service men and women who were eligible for Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA). Steven Hall, Director of Military Relations, said, “As a veteran this means a great deal to me. I look forward to sharing this benefit that CBC has chosen to give to all veterans, whether they take
classes online, on campus or in one of our many degree programs at either our Conway or North Little Rock campus.” “We are so proud to expand our military discount to include all veterans,” said CBC President Terry Kimbrow. “We have supported all branches of the military through higher education for many years in many ways, and this simply continues our support.” CBC has been named a 2017 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media. This is the eighth year in a row that CBC has received this honor. The Military Friendly® School designation is awarded to the top colleges,

HAD WALLER, A CURRENT CBC STUDENT, WAS RECOGNIZED ALONG with his McAllen High Intensity Drug Traffic Area (HIDTA) Task Force on the national level for outstanding investigative efforts at the National HIDTA Awards banquet in Washington, D.C., on February 9, 2017.
Waller is a sophomore accounting major at CBC originally from Cabot, now living in Vilonia. Waller has been a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard since September of 2006 and is currently still serving. He has been on and off of active duty orders various times in his career and currently serves as a non-commissioned officer at the rank of Technical Sergeant. Waller’s most recent tour was spent with the Arkansas Counterdrug Task Force RC-26 division. He spent several years with this unit SUMMER 2017
universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and that dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation. CBC offers an Associate of Science degree in Military Technologies with locations in Conway and in North Little Rock at Camp Robinson. In addition to the Military Technologies associate degree, CBC offers more than 40 degree programs. Twelve of these degree programs are offered in the Professional Adult College Education (PACE) program, and 10 are online. To date, this investigation has led to the seizure of more than 500 kilograms of cocaine, two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and approximately $1.8 million in drug proceeds and assets. †

AVE YOU EVER HEARD THE QUOTE, “IF YOUR DREAMS
do not scare you, they are not big enough.” This quote has come up a couple of times in the past few weeks in conversation so I decided to do a search and see what I could find out about it. A longer version of the quote by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says this, “The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them. If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.” I paused as I read this because it reminds me so much of the theme verse we have used at Central Baptist College for several years. That verse is found in Ephesians 3:20-21 and says,
“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

At our June Board of Trustees meeting, the members affirmed the existing college mission statement that says, “Central Baptist College
share that with you. From that plan will come the development of a campus facilities master plan and the identification of our next capital projects. Please pray for myself and the Executive Leadership Team as we finish these tasks and dream big dreams for the future of Central Baptist College! †
There are so many exciting things happening at the institution that I couldn’t begin to list them all here in this message to you! Believe me when I tell you, if you haven’t been to CBC in the past 10 to 15 years, you wouldn’t recognize the place! God is not only transforming students’ lives during their time here, but He is also transforming the physical campus. He has blessed this place through the prayers and hard work and financial investments of His people! Thank you to those who have labored with us and know that we are dreaming BIG dreams. We are dreaming dreams that “exceed our current capacity to achieve them,” but they aren’t too big for the mighty God we serve! As you read through the pages of this issue of the Connecting Point, please pray about your role in helping us achieve these big dreams! Maybe you know a military veteran who could take advantage of the Veteran Tuition Discount through the PACE program or a recent high school graduate who would be a great fit for CBC this fall. Maybe your church could host a CBC Day in August, September or October… we are looking for 50 churches to do just that! Or maybe you feel led to make a personal investment in the Gifts that Transform program. However God leads you, please know that I am thankful that God has placed CBC on your heart and know that you are part of the transformation of lives that takes place on this campus year after year after year. Ligon Receives Doctorate, Cantrell Promoted

ATERYNA LIGON AND BETH CANTRELL, TWO CENTRAL BAPTIST COLLEGE FACULTY MEMBERS, were recently recognized for their accomplishments.
Ligon, an Assistant Professor of Business at CBC, earned her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Leadership from the University of Central Arkansas in December. She has worked at CBC since July of 2015. Cantrell, who has been at CBC since 1990, recently earned a promotion to Professor. She was an AssoBeth Cantrell ciate Professor previously and holds a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University and a Masters from UCA. She is the chair of the business department and teaches courses in computer applications, economics, finance, operations management and business strategy. Kateryna Ligon SUMMER 2017
CBC Adds Autism Support Program
CBC congratulates these women on their accomplishments, and we are proud to have them as part of the CBC family! †
ASAP is a program for students interested in attending college, but who are in need of additional supports in order to be successful. Paula Bender, Disability Support Services Coordinator for CBC, said, “Our goal is to support students on the autism spectrum through college. We believe ASAP will be a tremendous benefit to these students and allow them to have the full college experience.” The Autism Spectrum Assistance Program is accepting applications for a limited number of openings for the fall 2017 semester. The program is open to students admitted to CBC in any degree program, and there is a cost for the services in addition to tuition. Information and applications are available on the program’s website at cbc.edu/asap. ASAP provides extensive support in addition to the appropriate accommodations required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Academic tutoring and study skills instruction will be provided. Peer mentors will be assigned and counseling provided to assist with social skills. Students may also participate in ASAP Bootcamp. Bootcamp allows students to experience campus life in a very structured, small group setting during the summer, in preparation for the beginning of school. Bender added, “Central Baptist College provides a unique opportunity for students on the autism spectrum. The small student-faculty ratio allows more access to instructors and individual attention. The small campus environment is where students can discover their place and feel part of the campus community.” Students must meet the minimum admissions requirements of CBC, provide documentation of disability and provide letters of recommendation from educators and or counselors to be considered for the program. Moore Hired as Director of Admissions
J
USTIN MOORE HAS JOINED THE ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT DIVISION AT CENTRAL BAPTIST COLLEGE AS THE DIRECTOR OF
ADMISSIONS. Moore received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business from Arkansas Tech University and an Associate of General Studies from the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton.
Before transitioning to CBC, Moore worked for the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM). Moore spent five years in the Admissions Department at UACCM. As Director of Admissions, Moore will lead traditional student recruitment efforts, manage traditional admissions office staff personnel, continually train traditional Personal Admissions Officers for maximum results, manage the recruitment budget and manage the final acceptance process and standards. Moore is a member of the House of Prayer church in Springhill, Ark., where he serves in the Worship band. He resides in Guy with his wife, Adrienne, and their daughter, Adalynn. †

2017 Graduation Class Makes CBC History

FamilyLife’s nationally syndicated program, delivered the Central Baptist College commencement addresses on May 6, 2017. This year’s class of 159 graduates was the largest graduating class in the school’s history. During commencement, CBC presented two Greatest Contribution Awards. Pranay Borde received the traditional graduate award, and Sgt. First Class James H. Howard received the Professional Adult College Education (PACE) graduate award. The traditional student Greatest Contribution Award is given by vote of the administration, faculty and staff to a graduate who is deemed to have enriched the lives of students and employees spiritually, academically, socially and personally and has demonstrated his or her love for CBC by giving unselfishly of personal energy, time, talent and effort. Pranay Borde graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible. During his time at CBC, Borde was involved as a leader in the Student Orientation Staff, was active on the journalism staff, part of the CBC Choir, served as president and vice president of the Rotaract Club, and in between everything going on at CBC has remained active in a local church, serving middle school youth. The PACE Greatest Contribution Award recognizes a student who has had the greatest positive impact on Central Baptist College during his or her tenure in the non-traditional program. This person has enriched the lives of students and faculty and demonstrated a love for CBC by giving unselfishly of personal time, energy and talent. Sgt. First Class James H. Howard enrolled in the PACE and Online program in the spring of 2014. Sgt. Howard graduated summa cum laude, with a perfect grade point average, having earned his Bachelor of Science in Adult Education and Training. For his efforts, he has been awarded a full tuition scholarship to graduate school.

Sgt. Howard has been a leader in military service, serving two combat tours of duty. He serves his constituents as the current president of the Enlisted Association of the Arkansas National Guard. For the benefit of our school, he has served as a logistics liaison between CBC and the Army National Guard 233rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute. “He has really gone above and beyond. He has promoted Central Baptist College and its non-traditional programs. Most importantly, he has been a helper and encourager to his classmates, helping them to stay the course and finish their degree alongside him,” said CBC PACE and Online Studies Director Chad Linn. This year, CBC graduated four international students. For the first time, these students wore their country’s colors during the graduation ceremonies. These students represented four different countries: Pranay Borde – India, Manuel Pereznny – Dominican Republic, Galja Jones – Republic of Macedonia, and Tatum Gombad – South Africa. † SUMMER 2017

Chili Cook Off Sixteen teams, from local businesses to alumni teams, participated in the CBC Chili Cook Off on Friday, February 3. The event drew more than 300 attendees and was sponsored by the CBC Alumni Association and First Service Bank. The winners were: Jay Bernard, State Farm Insurance – Best Chili, Business; Peggy Pillow, Amy Reed and Pam Sims – Best Chili, Faculty/Staff; and The Lowry Family – Best Chili, Alumni.
Mustang Carnival The Mustang Carnival was a hit for CBC students and kids big and small. The Carnival included games, a photo booth, inflatables and more.
The Mustang baseball team was honored with a Baseball Ring Ceremony held in the Story Library. Each member of the 2016 AMC Conference Champion team was honored with a commemorative ring. CBC Baseball Coach Aaron Brister unveiled the AMC Championship banner and the NAIA World Series participation banners to the packed crowd.
Alumni and Friends Luncheon The Central Baptist College Alumni Board honored Judy Johnson with the Distinguished Alumnus Award for her service to the community for more than 20 years and her legacy of service to CBC. This year’s recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award was Jordan Bowen. The alumni board recognized Chris Ramsey as the recipient of the Mustang Community Impact Award. The luncheon was sponsored by the CBC Alumni Association and Events Rental and Floral. Kyle Gore was the Alumni Luncheon speaker and encouraged us to always look towards heaven.

ICKEY-STEPHENS PARK, HOME OF THE ARKANSAS TRAVELERS, DOUBLE-A AFFILIATE FOR MAJOR LEAGUE Baseball’s Seattle Mariners, was the setting for a match-up between Central Baptist College and Crowley’s Ridge College on April 24. The game, sponsored by First Security Bank, was originally scheduled to be played with Harding University. A scheduling conflict allowed the change, and the Pioneers were ready to take advantage. The Mustangs wore down Crowley’s Ridge in the later innings to take an 11-6 victory. “It was a good mid-week game,” said Coach Aaron Brister. “It was fun. It was a great experience for the players to play here, and I think the fans got what they wanted with 17 runs and 27 hits combined.” Brister added, “We are very thankful that the Travelers allowed us to be a part of this game and for the fans who came out and supported the Mustang baseball program.” †

HE 2016-17 ATHLETIC YEAR WRAPPED UP FOR THE MUSTANGS ON MAY 12, AND IT MARKED ANOTHER
successful season for the CBC baseball team. The team finished the year 30-27 with a trip to the NCCAA Central Region Tournament in McPherson, Kan. Five players – Ben Madison, Austin Kuchinski, Jalin Lawson, Monterio May and Cole Johnson – were selected to the All-AMC teams, including a pair of awards (First Team Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year) for Madison, a sophomore from Benton. The Mustangs were also able to sign six new players in May to join the program for the 2018 season. CBC softball won three of their last four games this season to finish the year 21-30, but the team will continue to improve under now thirdyear head coach Kristen Drage.

The CBC men’s golf team had an outstanding year, with two all-AMC selections (Austin Harmon and Cameron Ressor) and a second team CBC women’s golf had two participants this past season in MaKenzie NAIA All-American selection in Harmon. The team finished sixth at the Baker and Shelby Raborn. Holth Takes Over As Sports Information Director
E
RIK HOLTH WAS NAMED THE NEW SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR and Public Relations Officer at CBC in May. He will be the primary contact for all twelve CBC Mustang athletic teams.
“I’m so excited that I was afforded this opportunity,” he said. “I am passionate about sports information, but I am just happy that I can continue my ministry to college students at a great, Christian institution like CBC. I’m ready for this opportunity and will seize and attack it the best I know how.” Holth comes to CBC after spending the 2015-16 academic year as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Hendrix College, also in Conway. While at Hendrix, his primary responsibilities were social media content, video and live streaming, and video production and editing. He took Hendrix from the 120th ranked social media program in NCAA Division III to 76th by the end of his tenure.
Prior to his arrival at Hendrix, Holth spent 2014-15 at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Ky. While at KWC, he served as the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and women’s basketball, while also serving as the road radio voice for the Panther women’s basketball team. Additionally, he was in charge of all social media accounts, an area that he helped develop into 15th in NCAA Division II by the time of his departure. His start in the sports information industry began at East Texas Baptist University, an NCAA Division III school in Marshall, Texas. While at ETBU, he began to learn everything that it takes to be a sports information director and assisted in all aspects of the school’s 14 sports at the time. “We are excited to have Erik here,” said Athletic Director Lyle Middleton. “His enthusiasm and experience are what we need at CBC. He under-

lone season at Graceland, Wright nearly tripled the win total from the previous season, leading the Yellowjackets to a 17-15 record. He also had a 6-3 record against top-25 teams during the season and led the school to its first-ever NAIA national ranking of 25th.
NAMED THE NEW HEAD MEN’S basketball coach at Central Baptist College, Athletic Director Lyle Middleton announced at a press conference in May. Wright will succeed Wes Sullivan, who resigned in April. “Coach Wright brings a lot of experience to CBC, and we are happy to have him here,” said Middleton. “He’s been in this profession for 14 seasons, five of which have been in the NAIA, and he’s been a winner. He brings a winning attitude and strong, Christian beliefs to this position.” Wright comes to Conway from Angelo State University, an NCAA Division II institution in San Angelo, Texas, where he served as an assistant on Cinco Boone’s staff last season. He helped guide the Rams to a 17-12 record and an appearance in the Lone Star Conference tournament final. During the season, ASU reached as high as fifth in the national poll. Coach Wright also was the academic coordinator helping the team to its highest GPA ever in

Chris Wright program history and signed the number one junior college point guard before the season. “He has strong ethics and morals and strives to do things the right way the first time. I rate him as one of the top recruiters in the country,” Middleton added. Prior to his stop in San Angelo, Wright served as the head coach at Graceland University, an NAIA school in Lamoni, Iowa. In his
Coach also has previous experience in Arkansas, spending the 2014-15 season at Arkansas Tech in Russellville. While at Tech, Wright helped lead the Wonder Boys to an 18win season and a trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament. He also signed the team’s leading scorer two weeks into his tenure. Wright’s coaching career began as an assistant at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. While there, Coach Wright was instrumental in signing a recruiting class that produced back-toback NCAA tournament appearances. Coach Wright earned his undergraduate degree in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas-Austin. He also earned a Master of Arts in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University. †

(1967) Willie Ray McCoy currently serves as the Pastor at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Bushnell, Ill.
(1965) Richard Eye has been self-employed with Total Account Service for 40 years.
(1967) Nelda (Fraser) Capelle has served as a pharmacist for the past 41 years.
(1966) Brenda Carter is celebrating seven years as the Office Manager for an ophthalmologist, nine years as the Worship Administrator for Fellowship Bible Church and has been working with singles in the church for 15 years.
(1967) Diana (Snowden) Cowen taught at Belton High School in Belton, Texas, from 1968-2000. She then went on to work at the Texas Railroad and Heritage Museum from 2002-2008. She currently volunteers in the gift shop at Scott & White Memorial Hospital.
(1966) Maridel (Collum) Eye retired from her non-profit work in 2016. (1966) Sarah (Lieblong) Eye is enjoying retirement after working as a high school teacher for five years, in-home daycare director for 15 years and office manager for the family business for 10 years. (1966) Christine Stewart served as secretary to the president at CBC from 1966-1968; she then was employed at Kimberly-Clark from 1975-2002. (1966) Jimmy Wayne Thompson retired from pastoring in February 2016. (1966) Rena Hoggard invested her life as a stay at home mom, wife and housekeeper. She now enjoys her time with her four grandkids and three great grandkids. (1966) Kathy (Stacy) Herring spent 29 years as a teacher at Oak Grove Elementary. (1967) Lynell (Burns) Smith has served as the GMA and YLA Director for the BMA of Ameri-

1990s (1992) Chris Tharp’s family was recognized as the Independence County Farm Family of the Year.
2000s (2002) Seth Allen Yarbrough passed away on May 23, 2017. (2009) Kyle Troutman was honored with one of the most prestigious state-wide awards from the Missouri Press Association (MPA) – a 2017 William E. James/Missouri Outstanding Young Journalist Award.
2010s (2011) Jonathan and Meagan (East) Cofer welcomed their third child, Jonah, on April 3. (2011) Lauren Gammel graduated with her Doctor of Medicine (MD) and will be starting a five-year General Surgery Residency at East Tennessee State University in July! (2012) Kyle Gore and family relocated to northwest Arkansas and has started a job with Unilever, and welcomed his second child, a son, into the world on April 18. (2012) Nathan Brewer and family have relocated to Oklahoma City, Okla., and will be planting a church over the summer. (2012) Thomas and Courtney (Luck) Mobly have relocated to Oklahoma City, Okla., and will be joining Brewer with the church plant. (2013) Brittney Webster married Stephen Dominquez (2015) on Saturday May 27, 2017, in Conway, Ark. (2012) Michael and Laci (McCullom) Mayo (2013) welcomed their first son, Daniel Joseph Mayo, on May 1, 2017. (2015) Kelsey Fagala started a job with Faulkner County Department of Human Services and became engaged to Jordan Sandefur in May. (2016) Congrats to David Landry for being accepted to the Masters of Biology for Medical Sciences program at Mississippi College. This program is designed for pre-med students who are taking a “gap year” before starting medical school.†
