As these pages reveal, Central Baptist College is a forward-looking, viable institution, with the administra

tion, faculty, and student body moving together with dedication toward enriching and expanding the work of our churches' effort to carry out the injunction of the

Great Commission. Each department of the college has as its ultimate goal the training and preparation of students to become useful servants of those churches.

Reflected in this annual is the work of the college as it is seen in the lives of those students, who are the sole reason

for the existence of Central Baptist College.

Dean's Message Central Baptist College continues to grow while many other institutions of higher learning are decreasing in enrollment. No doubt, there are many reasons for this.

Among these reasons is the fact that Central is "A School with Christian Ideals." As stated in her Educational

Distinctives, Central College adopts the philosophy that for an educational institution to fulfill its proper function it must seek to educate the whole person. Many other schools state a comparable philosophy of education.

However, Central holds to the conviction that spiritual development should be given more attention than it receives in most institutions of higher learning. And it is this emphasis that makes her philosophy of education un ique. God has honored this emphasis by sending in creasing numbers of students to her campus.

The students, in turn, do an invaluable service for

the college by their love for her and by their "talking Cen tral up" among their families and friends. The student body is the justification for the existence of the college, and their spiritual, intellectual, and professional growth is both the college's goal and reward.

The TOWERS is a third reason for Central's con m-

tinued growth. Her staff captures and embodies within the TOWERS the spirit and results of the college's educational endeavors. Through the pages of this issue others, doubtless, will be influenced to take advantage of the unique program Central has to offer. So we have am ple reason for a big "thank you" to the sponsor and staff of this book.

the builders of dreams, the molders of spirit, the creators of beauty in lasting stone. To all Conway, Central's Towers have symbolized aspirations, perfection, and strength . . . on grey days and fair . . . against Summer's brilliant skies . . . faintly through the mist of Autumn . . . in Winter's buffeting winds and chilling freezes . . . and framed in the'blush of Spring's blossoms. Towers are the poignant symbols of life . . . the reaching of youth toward adulthood . . . the fingers of Earth pointing to the Eternal. Towers are made for memories.

Cooper received his Associate of Arts degree from Central, a M.S.E. degree from State College of Arkansas and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Genetics from the University of Minnesota. Bro. Cooper teaches Biology, Genetics, Christian Doctrine, Anatomy and Physiology. He is also pastor of Needs Creek Baptist Church near Greenbrier. Suffice to say very

few men are as capable of fulfill ing their responsibilities as Dr. Cooper.

Smith, Hoshaw, And Hoffmann Added To Staff It is the teacher's task to add depth and sensitivity to hollow words such as excellence and integrity. It is the teacher's ultimate purpose to support the function of a college — education. It is from the teachers vantage point that the total scheme of complexity can be viewed and the goal of unity sought.

But throughout the intricacies that are Central,

there is found a single intertwining thread of significance and definitive character — commitment to Jesus Christ.

Bro. Coleman has an A.A. from Jacksonville College, a B.A. degree from Howard Payne College and a M.A. degree from Ouachita Baptist University.

No Freshman year or any other would be complete without the humor of Kenneth Brown. Bro. Brown teaches

Western Civilization, Political Science and Cultural Geography as well as Sociology. Bro. Brown attended

SCA where he received a B.S.E. and a M.S.E. degree.

Students may disagree on various things as far as college life is concerned but when the hour of vespers draws near there is found within the walls of Williams and Bruce Halls a definite feel

ing of brotherhood and closeness to God. A time

given to singing praises to God, a giving of devotionals, and very often testimonies that draw tears even from the most stern. Frank Panzerino

leads vespers in Williams Hall and Tricia Todd is in charge of them in Bruce Hall.

Fellowship is witnessed as the girls join hands in love.

The Center Of Learning

Central Baptist College Library is the educational center of Central Baptist College. Its purpose is not only to provide books, periodicals, and any other instructional materials to support the academic program of the college, but also to en courage the formation of a lifelong habit of reading.

has provided for Central's ABS Chapter, not only a meeting place to call their own, but also a director to en courage the fulfillment of their motto, "Always Busy Soulwinning."

At this year's Faulkner County Fair, the Chapter had the privilege pf leading 103 precious souls to the Lord. Traveling to a number of our churches, the ABS proclaimed the message of Christ; and in April they presented an Easter program,"The Cross" in the chapel services.

College is more than the classroom, the

laboratory, and the library. It is a place abounding with opportunities for pursuing individual in terests and developing talents which contribute to the students' growth as a citizen. Campus life is in formal and provides memories never to be forgotten. The student center affords the stage for many of these memories as it offers students a place to study, relax, enjoy a little competition or just simply chat.

Northwest Team Holds Fall Revival

The Operation Northwest Team consisted of Toni Shelton, Peggie Ashcraft, Randy Rife, Toni Adams, Carol Ledford, Sharry Markum,

The spiritual atmosphere this year at Central was greater than it has been in the past, because the year started out with a revival. The Fall Revival was held by Operation Northwest, a group of eleven students who shared their experiences of the summer spent working throughout the Northwest. They began their summer of visitation and hard work the day after graduation, travel ing through the states of Oklahoma, Colorado, Idaho, Washington and ending in Oregon. A total of 216 souls were led to Christ through the efforts of this group.

The Student Senate each year sponsors the Spring Revival. This year's evangelist was Bro. Richard Walters pastor of the Temple Church in Little Rock. Gary Grantham led the congregational singing which was highlighted with several specials. The revival came to a conclusion with a combined Vesper's service. This brought each student closer to each other in Christ.

Retreats Make It Worth It All

Campus life can get hectic many times, and everyone needs a small vacation, as the saying goes, "Get away from it all".

The weekends of October 12 and April 13 were just that for about fifty students from Central Baptist College. They packed up clothing, bedding, and m

bodies and headed for the National ABS Retreat at

Gary, Texas and the State ABS Retreat at Paron, Ark. All were looking for a good time of Christian fellowship with other Christian young people and for

a time of communion with God; and none came

away disappointed!

Even on the bus, the air was filled with anticipa

tion and song. Those who had attended retreats in the past were looking forward to seeing friends and acquaintances from other ABS chapters. Those who were attending their first retreat didn't know what to expect.

But they soon found out! From the very start, the hills and valleys surrounding the campgrounds rang with the praises of God. it was wet and cold, but the fires of Christian love made everyone feel warm.

Marita Becomes The 1974 Homecoming Queen ■ V!

January 26, 1974 was not just another Saturday night at Central. It was the Mustang Homecoming, and the night was filled with chills, thrills, and anticipation.

The gym with its glitter and lights displayed the theme of "Color My World". The stage wrapped in foil reflecting blues, oranges, greens and reds added excitement to the surroundings. Hanging from a ceiling draped in colors of pastels was a revolving figure of the world. The at mosphere contained a feeling of nervousness, with fans anxiously awaiting the crowning of the 1974 Homecom

Vicki Edmondson, Marita Sagely, Lyn Strong, Judy Tilley, and Joy Wallace were chosen by the basketball team as the Homecoming Royalty. The queen was selected from these by the student body. The announce ment of the voting was withheld 'til the night of Homecoming. The maids were escorted by members of the basketball team onto the court to the music of"Color

My World", accompanied by the Central Band. Jim Haygood was the soloist. Diane Montgomery, the 1973 homecoming queen, was escorted by Dr. Harold Cooper.

The climax was reached as Diane placed the crown onto the head of Marita Sagely, the 1974 Homecoming Queen.

To describe the feelings connected with being editor of the Towers this year would be a hard task. There were moments when

I wondered if this book would be

anything in resemblance to a yearbook. There were times when I wondered if we would ever meet another deadline, but somehow we did. And I believe because of the hard

work and diligent service of this years staff that you as a student have something to be proud of in your yearbook.

"Thank yous" are inappropriate at this time but that is all 1 have to give. A special thanks goes to Miss Garrison who in her position of advisor added immensely to the final product. For the time that Stan Freeman spent taking pictures and developing them a very special thanks also.
