SPEAK LIKE A LOCAL The Icelandic language is well-known for its tongue twisters. Here are some of our favorite twisted phrases that we use every day but make no sense to a non-Icelandic speaker:

Leggja höfuðið í bleyti [Lay your head in water] Icelanders use this phrase when they are at a crossroads and they need to ponder on what to do next.

Ég tók hann í bakaríið [I took him to the bakery] It may seem like a sweet saying.

However, Icelandic people use this as a threat or when describing a victory (as in football).
