Heroism and ‘American Values’

This issue highlights the unsung heroes behind the scenes that make life possible for our troops— our military families.

by Military Events Once the home of four living Medal of Honor recipients – the most to ever hail from one American town – Pueblo, Colorado, is often referred to as the “Home of Heroes.”

On November 13, local dignitaries continued Pueblo!s tradition of military heritage as they gathered for the official ribbon cutting of the Center for American Values. There, the extreme sacrifices made in the preservation American values will be honored. The vision of retired dentist and co-founder Adolph “Rudy” Padula, the Center will be the site of training seminars, The Center for American Values in Pueblo, Colorado, opened to the ceremonial activities, leadership public November 13. It!s studentfriendly, with a curriculum focused on core values of honor, integrity, and patriotism – three words which ultimately describe one of the Center co-founders, Drew Dix. Dix is a Medal of Honor recipient and a Pueblo native. On November 12, he joined founders Rudy and Brad Padula, and Center Director Tom Allee, to unveil the center to about 400 friends and supporters. CNN reporter Alex Quade was also on hand to emcee and talk about her experiences reporting in the field in Iraq and Afghanistan. She recently returned from Iraq!s “Triangle of Death” (the region south of Baghdad, between Baghdad and Al Hillah), and underscored how much the American people value the service of our military men and women.

“These tough men are fighting for us so that we can enjoy evenings like this, and sleep in our own beds at night,” Quade said, referring to the

Dix took the podium to talk about the Center!s core values: honor, integrity and patriotism. “It!s not necessarily that we have a problem with our youngsters today,” he said. “We just need to start over in doing the right thing.” According to Allee, the Center will provide an excellent opportunity to do just that. He explained to the audience some of the state-of-the-art tools available at the Center that will help accomplish the goal, including the Portraits of Valor collection and the iPads available to learn about Medal of Honor recipients! citations. Through its educational technologies and conference capabilities, the Center will offer generations to come all the tools it needs to rediscover American values.
