Our Strategy Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences, or HOPE, is at the foundation of our work. Promoting HOPE means building healthy relationships through Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) - the antidote to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma.

We serve children and families from every neighborhood in Palm Beach County. No matter the background or circumstance, we’re here to help. Our team addresses a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, grief, anger management, parent-child attachment issues, and difficulties adjusting to separation or divorce.

Childhood trauma Why does childhood trauma matter so much?

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are serious stressors like abuse, neglect, or family dysfunction that can deeply impact a child’s development. These experiences don’t just fade with time; they can actually change how a young brain grows.

Without support, the effects of trauma can lead to long-term mental and physical health challenges. But when we learn to recognize the signs and respond with care, we can help children heal—and prevent a lifetime of struggle.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact lifelong health. That’s why our Fighting ACEs initiative, launched in 2016, is laser-focused on prevention and early intervention.

Through education, collaboration, and direct support, we’ve engaged thousands of caregivers, professionals, and community leaders to change the story for children.

A Public Health Approach That Works We don’t just raise awareness—we act. Our model brings science into practice across Palm Beach County through a centralized intake system that meets families where they are and connects them to what they need—fast.

At the heart of this approach: our Data to Action Framework, which uses rapid feedback cycles to gather real-time data that directly improves programs, services, and outcomes.

How the data works: We track service needs, consultation themes, and crisis patterns to uncover what children and caregivers are facing right now, from anxiety to behavioral concerns. We gather insights on interventions, care coordination, and outcomes, and even map gaps across neighborhoods to see where help is needed most.

But we don’t just collect information—we use it. Our data dashboard brings these insights to life, helping us spot emerging trends, design targeted programs, reach families in underserved areas, and guide smart staffing decisions.

Empowering Children and Families with Connection and Resilience At Center for Child Counseling, our programs are designed to build resilience and promote emotional well-being in children, caregivers, and families. We offer a range of accessible mental health services including therapy, consultations, group support, and free online resources—to help families navigate challenges and heal from adversity.

CHILD FIRST

INFANT MENTAL HEALTH

The first program of its kind in Palm Beach County, Child First is a national, evidence- based, early childhood intervention that helps heal young children from the devastating impact of trauma and chronic stress.

Focusing on supporting the social, emotional, and mental health of pregnant women, new mothers, and their children through an array of evidence-based, therapeutic services.

PEDIATRIC INTEGRATION

Partnering with Palm Beach Pediatrics to promote overall wellbeing and health for pediatric patients through an array of mental health services, care coordination, and support.

CHILDHOOD TRAUMA RESPONSE

We step in immediately to help children and teens exposed to traumatic events or situations to provide trauma treatment and support.

Our education, prevention, and early intervention services are designed to support overall wellness and resilience in children, their caregivers, and their families: Education and Prevention Services: Live and online workshops, consultation, and support for parents, caregivers, and professionals. Training experiences focus on building specific skills as well as caregiver and community capacity to promote mental health, well-being, and resilience.

CHILDCARE AND COMMUNITY SOCIALEMOTIONAL WELLNESS We integrate prevention, early intervention, and counseling services into childcare center, schools, and shelters.

SNAP® PROGRAM

Stop Now And Plan, known as SNAP® is a proven model for children ages 611. It teaches children struggling with behavior problems, and their parents, how to make better choices “in the moment.”

CHILD AND FAMILY CENTER Located in West Palm Beach, the center is a safe place for children to heal and for families to resolve problems. It contains state-of-the-art play therapy rooms where children, parents, and therapists can work together.

BEKIDSAFE!

BeKidSafe encompasses both StayKidSafe! and CampSafe, offering personal safety education that focuses on preventing and raising awareness about sexual abuse.

The Power of Play Therapy Healing Through a Child’s Natural Language Play Therapy is at the heart of our work because when children can't explain what they feel, they show us through play. Toys become their words, offering a window into pain, fear, and confusion and a pathway to healing and hope.

How does play therapy help a child heal?

Using puppets, dollhouses, and toy cars, our therapists gently guide children through the emotions they can’t yet put into words (grief, fear, anger, or anxiety), creating a safe space for healing to begin.

For children affected by trauma, abuse, or family stress, Play Therapy is a lifeline. Our therapists help them make sense of their story—gently, at their own pace, and in the language they know best: play.

To help families bring healing play into everyday life, we offer free resources on our website such as tip sheets, activity guides, and videos, that empower you to connect with your child or teen in meaningful, supportive ways.
