Expanding Transformative Services

From Trauma to HOPE: Advancing Healing for Children and Families This quarter, Center for Child Counseling continued to turn moments of hardship into pathways toward healing and resilience. Guided by our From Trauma to HOPE approach, we expanded access to compassionate, evidence-based care—ensuring more children and families received the support they needed when it mattered most.

As we enter a new fiscal year, we are deepening this commitment. With bold initiatives and strong community partnership, we are widening the circle of HOPE across Palm Beach County—helping children feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.

Celebrating Operational Excellence Accreditation Success Center for Child Counseling earned the Nonprofits First Accreditation for Excellence in Nonprofit Management for 2025—an achievement reserved for organizations that demonstrate the highest standards of accountability, sustainability, and organizational strength. Reviewers described CFCC as “a model for how it should be done,” reaffirming our commitment to delivering exceptional, trauma- and HOPE-informed care for children and families.

Leadership Recognition Our President & CEO, Renée Layman, was appointed to the Palm Beach County Community Alliance (PBCCA) Board of Directors, expanding CFCC’s leadership role in policy, advocacy, and systems change for children in the child welfare system. This appointment strengthens our ability to influence countywide strategies that protect children, support families, and advance our From Trauma to HOPE vision.

Looking Ahead As we enter a new fiscal year, Center for Child Counseling is poised to deepen our impact and reach even more children and families. Our new Family Visitation Center will provide a safe and supportive environment where healing connections can flourish. At the same time, our strengthened community partnerships ensure that services reach families throughout every corner of Palm Beach County. We are also launching updated resources —including the newest edition of our A Way of Being with Children manual—equipping caregivers and educators with the tools to nurture emotional well-being from the earliest years.

Expanding Access for Children and Families in Palm Beach County

This quarter, we opened the door to healing for 26 percent more children. Thanks to the remarkable work of our Intake Team, more families gained rapid access to care—at the exact moments when support can change the trajectory of a child’s life.

Program Updates

As we start a new fiscal year, we are carrying this momentum forward. With unwavering community and funder support, we continue to lead the movement for children’s mental health and to create lasting, meaningful change for Palm Beach County’s children and families.

SNAP (Stop Now and Plan) Our team Launched trauma-informed SNAP groups for youth in the juvenile justice system in West Palm Beach and Belle Glade, with a third group set to begin ahead of schedule, reflecting a strong partnership with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).

Caregiver Workshops

Thriving Partnerships

Our teams facilitated a powerful workshop at the Achievement Center for over 15 caregivers, with translation into Haitian Creole to ensure culturally responsive and inclusive participation. We are creating a space where caregivers feel valued, heard, and empowered. Monthly workshops are planned to continue and deepen this meaningful partnership.

This quarter, we partnered with community organizations like Rohi’s Readery, bringing our team and services directly on-site throughout the summer. Rohi’s team and board shared heartfelt gratitude, noting that CFCC staff brought “light, stability, and a deep sense of belonging” to their youngest population. They emphasized that our presence made a profoundly positive impact on the children, families, and broader community, highlighting the strength of collaboration in shaping meaningful care.

Strength in Partnership Partnering for meaningful change and brighter futures This season was enriched through partnerships and meaningful connections, all working together to support children and families across our community and beyond. None of these events, initiatives, or services would be possible without the power of collaboration and shared commitment to impact.

Celebrate Babies The Celebrate Babies 2025 Virtual Summit, co-hosted with Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies of Palm Beach County, brought together professionals from around the world, demonstrating a shared commitment to supporting babies and caregivers. With insights from Dr. Nancy Byatt and Dr. Tina Payne Bryson, participants connected, learned, and engaged virtually, highlighting the event’s global reach and the collective dedication to advancing early childhood well-being.

Excellence in Crisis Intervention We’re honored to be named CIT Partner of the Year at the PBC Crisis Intervention Team Annual Luncheon!

This recognition celebrates our work training hundreds of PBSO staff in crisis intervention, supporting their practice, and making a meaningful impact on children and families.

Celebrating 25 Years of Impact We celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health, reflecting on decades of collaboration and casting a shared vision for the future of infant mental health. With our President & CEO, Renée Layman, appointed as President of the FAIMH Board of Directors in January 2025, we look forward to deepening this partnership and expanding our impact for children and families across the state.

Expanding Impact Our Education and Prevention Services (EPS) team expanded its impact with the addition of two new co-located sites at E.B. Kinsey Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary. This growth reflects our deepening partnerships, unwavering commitment, and meaningful engagement across all sites, building stronger, more connected communities through prevention, education, and support.

Building Community Resilience Our Hope in Times of Crisis training, held in partnership with United Way of Palm Beach County, American Red Cross, and Palm Beach County, brought together community leaders to explore the effects of crises, the power of resilience, and strategies to support residents during challenging times. This collaboration strengthened connections across organizations and equipped participants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Building a Trauma-Proof World In September, we hosted Building a Trauma-Proof World with Benjamin Perks as part of our Lead the Fight series— creating a powerful milestone in our mission to transform children’s mental health.

Held in person at The Breakers and live-streamed to a wide virtual audience, the event brought together hundreds of leaders, professionals, caregivers, and advocates committed to creating safer, more resilient communities. Benjamin Perks—internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in preventing ACEs and advancing trauma-informed systems—delivered an inspiring and evidence-rich keynote that expanded our collective understanding and galvanized action.

Throughout his presentation, Perks underscored both the urgency and the extraordinary promise of this work, reminding us that communities can—and must—create environments where every child has the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.

The momentum sparked during this gathering continues to fuel our resolve and advance our mission. Together, we are leading the fight for children’s mental health and moving closer to a future where every child grows up in a truly trauma-proof world filled with safety, support, and HOPE. A Night of Gratitude Celebrating champions of HOPE Our Gratitude Gathering brought together supporters, partners, and friends for an evening filled with reflection, recognition, and heartfelt celebration. This special night honored three extraordinary leaders whose dedication is transforming the lives of children and families across our community.

Lauren Taylor Clifton, Esq., received the Judge Ron Alvarez Resiliency Award for her unwavering advocacy as Lead Attorney for the Relative Caregiver Project at the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. Dr. Eliana Gil, a pioneer in trauma and play therapy and Founding Partner of the Gil Institute for Trauma Recovery & Education, was presented with the Jane Robinson Child Advocacy Award. Samuel Meshberg was honored with the Julie Fisher Cummings Child Protector Award for his visionary philanthropy and steadfast support of early childhood mental health.

Their collective impact is creating lasting change and helping build a safer, more resilient community where every child has the chance to grow, heal, and thrive.

Transforming Futures Through HOPE The Foundation of Our Work Trauma-Informed and HOPECentered Care Our commitment to creating a trauma-informed, HOPE-centered system of care is at the core of everything we do and part of our Strategic Plan 2025-2028. We believe that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are not destiny, and positive outcomes can be cultivated.

Key initiatives in this area include: HOPE Training Efforts: We are in full swing, expanding our reach across the community and equipping childcare centers and schools with the tools to create resilience-focused environments.

Our updated A Way of Being with Children prek manual is the heart of our trauma- and HOPEinformed approach. It teaches caregivers, educators, and professionals how to build safe, nurturing relationships that foster resilience and healing. As the foundation of our public health approach, it guides everything we do—helping adults respond with empathy, strengthen connection, and create environments where children feel seen, supported, and ready to thrive.

HOPEful Families Curriculum: We developed a 12session curriculum for caregiver groups, with a new support group officially launched, and the University of Texas conducting research on its impact and success.

HOPEful Youth Psychoeducational Groups Curriculum: We are actively developing a new curriculum for youth, expanding our reach to younger generations.
