TRAILS & RECREATION PLAN The City of Centennial is updating its Trails and Recreation Master Plan. City staff and the consultant, Design Workshop, are working with an appointed Advisory Committee representing local and regional partners in recreation for the area. The goal is to jointly identify opportunities and strategies to implement within our network of parks, open space, trails and recreation.

Community input will be needed as we move into our public outreach phase this spring. A variety of workshops will take place throughout the City and there will be opportunities to provide feedback through online surveys. These comments will help us better understand your needs and desires for new, improved and expanded parks, open space, recreation and trails in the City. Thank you to those that have provided feedback about the City’s Comprehensive Plan, Centennial NEXT. These comments were helpful in developing vision statements illustrating your desires for the future of Centennial.

Currently, the City is documenting the existing layout, land uses and trends that may affect Centennial throughout the next 10 - 20 years.

Specifically, the Centennial NEXT team is looking at areas of the City that have yet to be developed, or may warrant redevelopment in the upcoming decades. This information will help the City plan for future opportunities and meet the community’s vision. Join the conversation and help us establish the “next” chapter for Centennial!

This accreditation program ensures the organization is transparent and offers opportunities to evaluate efficiencies and continuously look for ways to improve service delivery. Centennial has partnered with CH2M since July 2008 for public works services, such as street sweeping, snow and ice removal, street rehabilitation and more.

EMBRACING CHANGE CITY'S I-TEAM SELECTS NEXT AREA OF FOCUS Coming on the heels of the recent Go Centennial transportation pilot project, Centennial’s Innovation Team (i-team) is setting its sights on a new focus area.

The final year of the i-team’s 3-year, $1.5-million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies will focus on identifying solutions to help Centennial’s seniors age well in the community.

“The i-team’s transportation work with the Centennial Senior Commission on the Mobility Ambassador Program (MAP) really highlighted the enthusiasm of Centennial’s senior community and the opportunities available to help make the City a better place for residents and visitors of any age,” says Scott Blumenreich, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer.

Centennial’s senior population is expected to be 29,923 by the year 2030, 17.3 percent higher than the national average.

There is a need for the City to begin planning for changes in demographics as Centennial’s senior population is expected to be 17.3 percent higher than the national average by the year 2030. Therefore, the Centennial i-team has decided its next project will focus on Aging in Community, specifically on housing needs.

CENTENNIAL FIBER MASTER PLAN INTRODUCING FIBERWORKS

City Council has created the Centennial Fiber Commission to oversee Centennial FiberWorks, the program administering the implementation of the City’s fiber backbone. The construction of the fiber backbone is expected to be completed CENTENNIAL FiberWorks within 18 - 24 months and will make fiber available to key City sites and other community anchor institutions. This backbone will enable both existing and new broadband providers to tie into the new infrastructure with the goal of providing better and more competitive choices and services for consumers.

The Fiber Commission provides policy direction, management, and day-to-day oversight of FiberWorks. Three City Council Members currently sit on the Fiber Commission, including District 4 Council Member and Fiber Commission Chair C.J. Whelan, Mayor Pro Tem and Fiber Commission Vice Chair Stephanie Piko and District 3 Council Member Ken Lucas.

Two Centennial residents will be appointed to the Fiber Commission by City Council in the next eight months; applications will be made available soon.

2017 STREET REHABILITATION KEEPING CITY ROADS IN GOOD SHAPE In order to keep the City’s pavement network in good condition, City Council authorized an additional $3.6 million in funding for the 2017 Street Rehabilitation Program. The additional funds allow the City to improve all streets with a “very poor” pavement condition rating, which is an issue residents identified as a high priority in the 2016 Citizen Survey. Affected neighborhoods will be notified with a letter and door hanger in

advance of any work on their street. You may also receive notifications by subscribing to the private neighborhood social network, Nextdoor.com. Visit centennialco.gov/streetrehab to find out if your street is included in this year’s program.

Phases of the 2017 Street Rehabilitation Program will include:

CONCRETE REPLACEMENT Begins in March Streets receiving a mill and overlay treatment will also have concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks evaluated to identify failing areas in need of replacement or upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards.

SURFACE TREATMENT Crack Seal applied in May Slurry Seal applied in Sept.

Surface treatments such as slurry seal and crack seal prolong the life of pavement.

Slurry seal provides an extra 5-7 years of life to pavement when applied at the proper time.

Approximately 1.5 miles will be completed.

MILL & OVERLAY TREATMENT Begins in April Includes the removal of approximately two inches of existing asphalt surface and overlaying the milled surface with new asphalt.

An estimated 19.5 miles will be completed.
