planting an oak

We stare at each other Worry and watchful. Hand grazes our face in wonder Feeling the dampness on our cheeks. Hand moves down our shoulders, Careful and precise. They lower to our waist with gentle caresses Brushing over the marks on our skin. Hand slows as gaze lowers. Our gaze focuses on our abdomen, Turning ever so slightly, Pinching our flesh in annoyance. We think, I thought I could love you.
