SMOKE TESTING OF WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEM

The Public Works Department, in collaboration with Auger Pros, will conduct smoke testing of the wastewater collection system on Monday, October 21. This essential procedure will help identify any breaks or defects in the sewer lines, ensuring the continued integrity of our infrastructure. During the testing, residents may observe white smoke exiting through vent pipes on the roofs of homes or potentially through any sewer line breaks. It’s important to note that the smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue, and presents no fire hazard. It is highly unlikely to enter a home unless there are issues with plumbing or if drain traps are dry.

To prevent smoke from entering a home, the Public Works team recommends pouring a gallon of water into any seldom-used drains to fill the drain traps. This simple precaution will help ensure a smooth testing process and minimize any potential disruptions. The field crew will not need to enter any home or business during this testing. The smoke testing will primarily take place along S. Colorado St and may affect the following areas:

• 500 to 600 Block of S. Colorado St

• 500 Block of S. Arizona Dr

• 500 Block of S. Ohio Dr

• 300 to 400 Block of W. Ash St

LEAD SERVICE LINE INVENTORY & INTERACTIVE DASHBOARD ANNOUNCEMENT

The City of Celina’s Public Works Department has successfully completed a thorough Lead Service Line Inventory in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines. This critical initiative was undertaken to ensure public health by identifying any potential lead service lines or mains within the city, aiming to minimize the risk of lead exposure in drinking water.

Our team compiled detailed data on every service line, including material type, age, and location, using both historical records and field investigations. We are pleased to announce that our findings confirm the absence of lead service lines on the city’s side of the infrastructure.

In addition, we have launched an interactive public dashboard, now accessible via our Celina GIS webpage in the Interactive Maps Gallery. This tool allows residents to explore our service line inventory and stay informed about our ongoing efforts to maintain safe drinking water.
