CITY UPDATES

COLD WEATHER PREPAREDNESS UPDATE

An Arctic airmass is expected to arrive on Sunday, bringing significantly colder temperatures to our area next week. The best chances for precipitation will occur between Wednesday and Friday, primarily across Central Texas. While there is still considerable uncertainty regarding the timing and extent of precipitation, this situation will continue to be closely monitored.

In preparation for the approaching winter front, the City will take proactive measures to ensure public safety and road conditions. Brine will be applied to bridges and other critical areas beginning within 48 to 72 hours of the anticipated precipitation. Reapplications will be made as necessary. Additionally, sanding will be conducted on any areas identified as hazardous by City crews, as well as those reported by the Police or Fire Departments, following established protocols from previous events.

Please note that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will manage winter weather treatments on Preston Road (SH 289).

To keep our residents informed, the City will share updates on social media, including safety reminders about the “4 Ps”—People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes. Protecting these essential areas is crucial during cold weather months to ensure the well-being of our community. We appreciate your vigilance and preparation as we work together to navigate the challenges of winter weather.

ANNUAL STREET MAINTENANCE PROJECT UPDATE

The City of Celina Public Works Department, in partnership with Apple Pavement Services, will conduct road maintenance on several key streets as part of the Annual Street Maintenance (ASM) project. This initiative is scheduled to take place from January 2 through January 10, 2025, and will include the following areas:

• Kentucky Drive: FM 455 to W. Main Street (Blocks 100–200)

• S. Colorado Drive: FM 455 to W. Main Street (Blocks 100–200)

• Hillside Street: Maryland Street to Dead End (Block 100)

• W. Beech Street: N. Illinois Street to Dead End (Blocks 500–600)

During the maintenance period, two-way traffic may be restricted within the construction zones. Traffic control measures will be managed by the contractor to ensure safety and minimize disruptions. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve the quality and safety of our roadways. Thank you for your cooperation, and we apologize for any temporary inconvenience this project may cause.

WELCOME HOME, DETECTIVE MARCUS MARTINEZ

The City of Celina proudly welcomes home Detective Marcus Martinez following his year-long deployment to Syria, where he served on active duty as an Army Captain. Detective Martinez was part of the 1st Battalion, 114th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the New Jersey Army National Guard. During his deployment, he supported the mission of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR).

In Northeast Syria, U.S. Army soldiers, in cooperation with Syrian Democratic Force members, conducted vital security operations. These efforts included foot patrols aimed at stabilizing local communities and preventing a resurgence of ISIS in the region.

Detective Martinez’s service exemplifies dedication and commitment to global and national security. We are thrilled to welcome Detective Martinez back to Celina and deeply appreciate his contributions to both our community and our nation. Welcome home, Detective Martinez!

Please note that the entire left lanes will not be closed, and we will ensure there are no conflicts between lane closures within the same areas. Additional closures will occur at construction exits as needed to maintain safety and efficient traffic flow.
