Violinist Christian Tetzlaff and pianist Kirill Gerstein join forces for a program featuring three major sonatas by Janáček, Bartók, and Brahms, as well as György Kurtág’s spare yet atmospheric Tre Pezzi. Rounding out the program is a new piano suite by Thomas Adès based on his opera The Tempest. Tetzlaff and Gerstein premiered the work in Europe in 2022 and will give the Boston premiere at this concert.

Yo-Yo Ma is an icon around the world for his staggering talent, extraordinary technique, and zest for musical partnerships. Whether he's appearing as an orchestral soloist or collaborating with the biggest stars in bluegrass, he draws audiences in with his compelling, committed performances.

On the recital stage, Ma has a long and fruitful performing and recording partnership with pianist Kathryn Stott. Internationally recognized as one of Britain’s most versatile and imaginative pianists, the Washington Post wrote Stott is “every bit Ma’s equal, playing with striking individuality.” Together they have toured the globe and released multiple albums. They make their first appearance together at Symphony Hall since 2015.
